Day 1,530, 04:50 Published in Argentina Argentina by Ash J. Williams
The reason

For the most part, the game is becoming a bit stale... I´m not gonna go on a rant of "military strategy", "visaplayers" and the old blah blah blah. What I mean is... we´re playing the same thing we did since the beginning... for the most part, even with the changes in the alliances it´s the same Croatia vs Serbia, Hungary vs Romania, Indonesia vs USA, Brazil vs Spain of always... even though we´ve had the rise of countries like Macedonia, Bulgaria and Slovenia... the game, the wars and the enemies haven´t really changed much, since the underlying interests and posibilities are pretty much the same.

One of the reasons I see for this is that current game mechanics only allows wars with countries you have a border with, something I think is good... the problem is that many countries in the south are cut off from the north and vice versa, making it virtually impossible to reach each other and somehow develop an interest... lets see:

Argentina, Chile, Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand, Uruguay, etc. have little to no chance to reach the narrow pass north to Azores or Canary Islands and fight European countries... the same applies for european countries against us. This, however doesn´t affect northern countries in the americas like USA and Canada who, somehow, have reasonably close or direct borders with countries in Europe, Southeast Asia and North Asia.

We´ve had the rise of small non-Eurozone countries in the game through competition and challange that forced players in those countries too look for more players or face permanent deletion. Yet, that is not the case with countries down South, were aside from Brasil and Indonesia (both have a connection to the North) is packed with small countries with little to no growth... even recent babybooms in the zone have fallen flat in their faces due to the lack of real wars or real challange for them in this game. Also note a considerable amount of southside nations IPs with european citizenship, due to this fact.

The economics

Southeast Asia, India and South America are some of the fastest growing regions in internet access and some of the least affected by the economic turmoil in Europe and North America. And while internert connectivity growth in the developed world is rather stagnant, down south the numbers are increasing rapidly... meaning more potential costumers for the business that is eRepublik.

And while credit card debt, use and issues are for the most part stagnated or decreasing in the North of the world (US/Europe), the numbers are increasing rapidly in the south.

With a potential niche of this size (nearly 2 billion people live in the zone), what can be done to reach, attract and keep these potential costumers in a growing market, without affecting game mechanics and throwing the whole thing down the drain?

Solution... create the Antarctic regions

While since the 1959 treaty, new claims of Antarctic territory have been suspended. As it stands 7 different countries have claims from before the treaty in the antarctic... these countries are:

United Kingdom
Norway
France
Australia
New Zealand
Chile
Argentina

In the case of United Kingdom, Chile and Argentina, some of their claimed territory are overlapping each other, in wich case the division can be done freely by the admin (really... who cares).

These territories would have borders with India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina... additionally the european countries with claimed territory in Antarctica would have border to these regions with the south most territory in their homeland. So...

Adélie Land would border Province Alpes Azur, France.
Peter I Land and Queen Maud Land would border Sorlandet, Norway.
British Antarctic Territory would border Southwest of England, UK.

This would widen the extremely narrow path that Azores and Canary Islands currently are, and make the game more interconnected globally, demanding more strategy and giving more participation of the south-side nations who´s RL economies are booming and interconectivity is rapidly increasing.

This is just a humble suggestion of a player in the game, been at it long enough, and it would be nice to have some fresh developments and changes not on the game mechanics itself but in the interests and objectives of the countries.

If you, player, agree with this I would appretiate a chain shout to get this up and have the admins at least see it.

Thank you.
