Food
Nephworks
In keeping with my current series of articles, today I want to examine and speculate on the food market in V2.
Some simple figures first of all:
1 unit of food requires 9 grain per Quality level. (Q1 = 9, Q5 = 45)
At the moment 1 unit of grain costs 0.07 IEP on the eIrish market.
The RM cost of production is as follows: Q1 = 0.63, Q2 = 1.26, Q3 = 1.89, Q4 = 2.52, Q5 = 3.15 IEP
Food companies require both marketing managers and producers to make food.
With these figures in mind if is clear to see that there is still a large stock of food left on the market from V1 so this article suggests it is a great time to be stocking up on food as I expect the cost to increase when companies have to start producing again. The current cheapest Q1 food on the market is 0.75 IEP and yet RM costs alone are 0.63 IEP.
Health
It seems pretty clear to me that food is taking the place of gifts which have all been removed from V2. On the Irish market Baps Snax is currently selling Q5 food for 10.8 IEP and consumers will gain a massive 10 wellness a day from this food. Before the changeover gifts were selling for in and around 2.3 IEP each so to gain 10 wellness you needed to pay up a whopping 23 IEP compared to just 10.8 IEP now for food. However as I said earlier much (if not all) of the food on the market is stock from V1 so it remains to be seen if these prices will stay so low and I suspect they will not.
Happiness:
Much like health happiness can also be strongly influenced by food and it can also be used to boost our happiness with higher quality food instead of paying out gold for a booster pack. If I recall correctly a +5 happiness booster costs 0.19gold. However, FruitsofLabour1 is selling +4.5 happiness food for just 3.13 IEP (0.05) gold and
Gonzo's G-Irish Stout is selling Q4 bread with +5 happiness for just 5.94 IEP (0.1 gold). Obviously the price of gold will fluctuate but the difference in costs between the booster and the food which will give you the same amount of happiness is too big to ever warrant using a booster pack.
Thanks for reading, please discuss in comments.
Cheers,

EDIT: the figures. Thanks for pointing it out Dash, doesn't make too much of an impact on my speculation but food will not be as expensive to produce as first thought.

great Articles, keep them up
Handy and informative, though I'm interested in seeing how food develops as you can now have food for health, food for happiness or food for both. I've a feeling that food that boosts happiness more than health will be in higher demand, but I'm unsure to what extent making food with a large differential is cost effective.

You should re-do your figures...one unit of grain is selling for .06 and .08 predominantly.
Its my opinion that most food producers are still selling thier products with V1 economies in mind. Clearly the Q1 market need to raise their prices to compensate for the huge amount of RM needed.
Thanks for pointing that out Dash, amendments have been made.
Well if prices change, I hope wages do too! I'm working at a Q3 for 80 cents a day because it's the only job available!!! Once my Q5 house gives out, I'm pretty much screwed.
