Follow Up With the Wiki or Don't Leave Me Hanging

Day 499, 09:18 Published in Germany USA by Q J Lincoln

One of the things that keeps the wiki up to date and informative is the combined actions of the community to keep pages updated. All users have a hand in this by following up with the pages they have started.

Though the wiki discourages page ownership, we often have pages we are more invested in than others. For example, pages that we have initiated about our citizen, company, organization, etc. It is every wiki author's duty to follow up with new pages they have started to ensure that they have created the proper foundation for community collaboration. Or, as my dad would say, "Don't do it 'half-assed'". If you believe that the article deserves to be in the wiki, then set the information up right.

Wiki authors should check up on pages they have started, within a few days to check for notices and comments. Syops, like myself, patrol all new pages and add notices like these to encourage writers make changes:
*Citizen Page Tutorial - this page is a citizen page and the author needs to consult the tutorial to make the page conform to wiki standards.
*Stub - this page is unfinished. I put this on pages that do not have an image or when the user has added a template to the page but no text.
*Formatting - this page is unfinished and needs formatting. This can mean the page needs a template or needs wikification (links to other pages in the wiki)
*Translation - this page is not in English and needs translation or needs the application of the Language Menu function, for more information see http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Help:Tips
*Ugly - the page is ugly and needs some help with the layout
*Delete - this page doesn't belong in the wiki - it breaks policy, is redundant, reason is included in the notice. etc. etc. Deletions can be debated on the talk page.

If you have a page with one of these notices, help the wiki by making the changes. If you don't know what the user meant by placing the notice, ask him or her on the User Talk page. I

If you have made the change suggested by the notice, you are free to remove it from the page.

For some pages, you might want to add the page (and its talk page) to your watch list. Every page has a "Watch" tab at the top of the screen. Just click the tab to add the page to your list. Check it periodically by clicking "My Watchlist" at the top right corner of the screen.
