First Senatorial Update

Day 651, 12:00 Published in USA USA by Evan Feinman

First Week in Congress

First of all, thanks to everybody who voted for the AAP during the August congressional elections. Before we get to the politics – a little honesty. I wasn’t swept into office riding a wave of popular support; I’m a member of the eUnited States Senate because of game mechanics. That said, America’s Advancement Party won as many seats as we did because of broad support for our policies, and now that I have the opportunity to serve, I’m damn well going to earn it. Next month, you can be the judge of how well I’ve succeeded.

With that in mind, here’s a rundown of how I’ve voted and why during the first week of my term, and what my priorities are during this Congressional session.

Freeing up money to fight PEACE:

During the last five days, I voted in favor of six pieces of legislation freeing up money from the treasury to take back our territory. Our false peace treaty with Indonesia divided our opposition and brought the eUS back from the brink of complete collapse. Now we need to use every resource at our disposal to win back what’s ours. Whether or not our forces are victorious in California today, we have made tremendous gains in the past few days – and we’ll need to keep our war machine fully funded if we want to keep up the pace.

Welcoming new citizens to eUSA: President Emerick has proposed the following welcome message for new citizens:

“You have just been born into the United States of America. Congratulations! Before I slap your bottom, let me tell you that you couldn't have joined at a better time. You see, we're being invaded. The New World is currently embroiled in a world war of such epic proportions that no other war in history compares. Ever. We are currently locked in battle with the alliance known as PEACE. As you grow stronger, you can help the USA win back her sovereign territories and push back PEACE. Every fight counts, and you can be the difference in the battle for the USA!

The way that you can help your country most right now is by staying active. We need you to gain experience, strength and wisdom. The success of you, your nation, and the entire free world depends upon you staying active, interested, and involved.

A good way to get involved and knowledgeable is to lurk the forums.

We have a mentoring service for those people who would like it. Your mentor will guide you through the beginning of your new life as a citizen and provide you with an experienced friend who can answer all your questions. You are encouraged to sign up here

You are also highly encouraged to enlist in our nation's military through the US Training Division. Joining the military is probably the best way to help your country, and joining will provide you the with a solid community of brothers in arms, as well as proper direction. Learn about our military here

Finally, please remember, eRepublik is a game! I want you to have fun and make your dreams a cyber reality!

Your president,

Emerick '”

I couldn’t agree with the sentiment more. I support and voted in favor of the President’s message.

What's Next:

I suspect that, if we continue to win back territory during the next couple of weeks, we’re going to start hearing support for an “on to Moscow” all-out offensive. While nothing would make me happier then planting Old Glory on the steps of the Kremlin, I think it’s vital that we learn from our mistakes. It’s pretty clear in the wake of PEACE’s invasion that our defensive infrastructure was not distributed as evenly as it should have been. Shoring up our defenses, and pursuing a comprehensive strategy that couples our military victories with diplomatic pressure to end the war on (and only on) favorable terms for the eUS is going to be my top priority in the conflict.

That’s it for now - I’ll be updating you regularly on our progress in the Senate. Thanks for your support, and PM me with any thoughts or suggestions on what you’d like to see happen in Congress.
