Fights Flare Around Developing Land Bridge in Europe, Day 910

Day 910, 19:23 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Day 910 has been wrought with several ongoing developments across Europe and Asia, but the biggest sign of a major upcoming battle was initiated by eUSA politicians. Regardless of the source, the New World is now assured that a very intense couple of days is coming upon its citizens.

Poland Threatens Austrian-Slovenian Land Bridge, Hungary Attacks Polish
ePoland’s successes on Day 909 in Moravia, and later in Day 910 at Western Slovakia, gave the ePoles access to an ongoing land bridge campaign involving eSlovenia and eAustria, which has been in progress to enable eHungary to cross into Western Europe. Trying to sever the bridge, ePoland used its new position to attack eSlovenia and its 6 allies unsuccessfully at the high grain region of Lower Austria. Despite the setback, ePoland still finds itself in the potential position to either break through, and then possibly use the bridge for themselves or attempt to follow in the heels of eHungary were they to begin traversing it. To counter the EDEN challenge, eAustria attacked Salzburg, and swapped it to eGermany; minutes later, eAustria also transferred Carinthia to the eGermans. Combined, these moves put a wedge in the land bridge and will deny any access to ePoland. Moreover, the move also limits the full impact eCroatia could have on the bridge through attacking eSlovenia.

After ePoland’s fight for Lower Austria (circled) backfired, eHungary moved on ePoland’s attempts to block
the land bridge, while eGermany disabled EDEN interference by taking Salzburg and Carinthia (squared)

In the mean time, ePoland’s efforts to sever the bridge in eSlovakia placed ePoland on eHungary’s borders, which invited an attack by eHungary and 16 allies at Western Slovakia. Without any activated mutual protection pacts (MPPs) of its own, ePoland fell drastically behind in the battle’s early going and may be reversed in their efforts to challenge the potential land bridge. However, the region may still be returned to the eSlovaks before this attack closes, since a resistance war (RW) started seconds earlier and is gaining ePolish support for the resistance. An eHungarian victory at Western Slovakia could be followed with an attack on Moravia, which would block ePoland’s ability to intervene in the land bridge without first going through eHungary and its MPPs; this is likely the main driving factor for ePoland supporting the RW and preventing eHungary’s ability to advance. Nevertheless, unless ePoland were to try another foray against eGermany, they would be unable to resist Phoenix efforts at getting the eHungarians westward in the coming days if eHungary was able to take Western Slovakia and Moravia.

eCroatia’s success in Southern Great Plain (squared) invited an eSerbian counterattack

Croatia Advances in Hungary, Serbia Intervenes
The EDEN offensive against eHungary had its first success in several weeks as eCroatia won the battle for the Southern Great Plain in Day 910. In a neighborhood of Phoenix countries, however, eCroatia’s victory was limited and quickly counterbalanced by eSerbia’s attack and a resistance war (RW) in the region. Although eCroatia holds 15 MPPs, only 11 are activated against the eSerbians, who are attacking solo in this conflict. Nonetheless, eCroatia’s progress on eHungary has been stunted. In the past, eRomania used its active war with eSerbia to block them from intervening in the eCroatian front, but the EDEN advance against eHungary has been compromised for the time being, because eSerbia was able to fight with impunity and counterattack the eCroats.

eJapan’s attacks on eSouth Korea has reduced eSK to two regions

Japan Sacks South Korean Capital
In Asia, the eJapanese continued their offensive with two more successful attacks against the eSouth Koreans against their capital, Gyeonggi-do, and Jeollanam-do as Day 909 closed. In effect, the war with eSK is over, as the eSouth Koreans hold two native regions, only one of which has any hospital (Q1) to speak of. As there were no follow-on attacks against eSK’s two remaining regions, it is likely that eJapan is content with having conquered the majority of eSouth Korea’s population and infrastructure, and may opt to leave eSK crippled rather than wiping them off the map entirely.

Declaration of War on Serbia Deliberated in US Congress
The biggest news with military implications on Day 910 was initiated by the eUSA Congress, as President Harrison Richardson has sought a declaration of war (DoW) against eSerbia. Enough Congressmen have voted for the proposal and war is inevitable, but will need to wait until the voting period passes and after the eUSA makes the first move in the 24 hours following the DoW being made official. It takes little imagination to see what the target will be, but when it happens, and how the geopolitical landscape looks then, will significantly determine the level of success and amount of backers the eUS or eSerbia may receive for their causes.

Looking Ahead
Two things have revealed themselves on Day 910: EDEN will have a difficult time cutting into the land bridge, and war between two major world powers, the eUSA and eSerbia, is imminent. I have mentioned before that the larger battles better spike interest and get the general eRepublik population involved, and that major battle is almost upon us. We will, once again, be returning to Asia in all likelihood, and I am hoping that the entire New World enjoys the major fight that is just over the horizon.

God Bless America,
