EZC War Games!!

Day 1,645, 19:34 Published in USA USA by e5anderm

CTW - S6 - May 22, 2012

After a fairly successful trial war games we have developed a War Games competition we think you guys will enjoy. This competition will involve lots and lots of kills, require people to communicate with each other, force people to strategize some sort of plan to win, and will involve everyone from the lower level players to the higher level players.

The first competition is the Regiment competition where you will be working with your regiment against the other regiments, which will involve two different parts. The first part will be a 3 day average kills competition to rank the regiments with the top 8 advancing while the second part will be a knockout style tournament based off the rankings. Head to head matchups based off of avg kills per member with a chance to get bonus kill points will determine the winners who will advance to play other winners until we have a champion.

The second competition is an individual competition open to all players, person with the most kills wins! The format will be similar with the regiment component part of the competition, but you can’t be knocked out so if you feel you have a chance to win continue to rack up the kills even if your regiment is knocked out.

It may seem complex but it’s actually pretty simple and will force people to do things that will make them better players and in turn make EZC into a sleeker, sexier and more efficient killing machine!

Short Version of the Competition
The regiment competitions first part will be a three day average kills per member competition starting this Wednesday and running till the end of Friday. All you and your regiment have to do for this part is kill, kill and kill some more to get a high average kills per member and thus a higher ranking compared to the other regiments with the top 8 regiments will advance to the next part of the competition.

The next part of the regiment competition will be a knockout tournament of head to head match ups based on a regiments average kills per member with bonus kill points available starting the following Monday (we will take the weekend off for people to strategize for the next part) and running till Wednesday when we have the Championship to get a winner! The Bonus kill points system will be a daily number (given at the early morning update) which regiment members will aim to have their total daily kill number END IN (example: the number is 7, if you get 37, 57, 87, 107 or any other number ending in 7 for the day you help your regiment get bonus kill points).

Beyond working with your regiment you will also be competing against everyone else in the MU to get the most kills over the course of the competition. Your kills will be added up for the first 3 days of the competition and the last 3 days of the competition, if you have the most kills you Win!! This individual competition will also take the weekend off and is open to anyone regardless of whether their regiment continues to advance or gets knocked out, so continue to hit if your regiment gets knocked out.

Now some members may not know how to easily count how many kills they have for the day, but for those people may I present you with an easy to use tool which will display how many kills you have over the course of a day on your profile page in Erep: erepublik-advanced (this requires either firefox or chrome as a browser though, and only counts the kills made on that individual computer, not a total from separate computers or cellphones etc)

Go there, check it out, download it and use it to watch your daily kills so you can keep track of your kills closely and use it to aim for the kill ending number so you can help your regiment get some extra bonus kill points (it’s also very helpful if you are going for HAD or HAD Elite).

It shouldn’t be too hard to understand, some things may get a little complex but we are doing our best to handle all the difficult stuff and make it easy on you.

EZC WAR GAMES PRIZES!!
We have a whole bunch of prizes available including a decent amount of GOLD, a bunch of USD and a whole bunch of WEAPONS and FOOD. Also, each member of one of the top 3 regiments and the top 3 individual winners will get a medal which they can add to their uniform.

For the regiment competition, the top 8 regiments that advance will each get a small prize of food and USD to help replenish their supplies for the tournament. The Champion of the tournament will get the biggest prize while the second and third place regiments will get smaller prizes. For the individual competition the top three will all get several gold with the winner getting the most. Below are the current prizes though as we get more donations to the prize pool we will increase the prizes. (these are the prizes right now based on what we currently have in stock, but we expect some donations so these prizes will likely increase to something better)

Top 8 advancing regiments small ‘replenish supplies’ prizes to divide amongst their members for the second tournament part of the competition:
1st Ranked Regiment - 600 Q5 Food + 1200 USD
2nd Ranked Regiment - 575 Q5 Food + 1150 USD
3rd Ranked Regiment - 550 Q5 Food + 1100 USD
4th Ranked Regiment - 525 Q5 Food + 1050 USD
5th Ranked Regiment - 500 Q5 Food + 1000 USD
6th Ranked Regiment - 475 Q5 Food + 950 USD
7th Ranked Regiment - 450 Q5 Food + 900 USD
8th Ranked Regiment - 425 Q5 Food + 850 USD

After playing through the tournament the top three regiments will get the following to divide amongst their members:
War Games Champion - 10 Gold, 3500 Q5 Food, 250 Q6 Tanks, 7500 USD
War Games Runner up - 5 Gold, 2500 Q5 Food, 150 Q6 Tanks, 5000 USD
War Games 3rd Place - 1500 Q5 Food, 50 Q6 Tanks, 3000 USD

For the individual competition of the War Games we have three prizes for the top three ‘Tanks’
War Games Kill Total Champion- 5 Gold, 350 Q5 Food, 100 Q4 Weapons
War Games Kill Total Runner up - 3 Gold, 250 Q5 Food, 75 Q4 Weapons
War Games Kill Total 3rd place - 2 Gold, 150 Q5 Food, 50 Q4 Weapons

And here are the fancy medals that can be won (on top of all the good prizes) and then put on your uniform for you to wear proudly. (side note, these are examples, we are not declaring winners and at the end of the competition the medals will be finalized (by updating the text on them) and sent out to the winners)

Now for the lengthy explanation with all the details, rules and regulations and some more in depth examples. The fine print, that you might not even read but is there for you just in case.

Regiment Competition Part 1 - All Regiments, Average Kill Competition, Wed/Thurs/Fri
The first part of the competition, which will last for three days, will involve all fourteen regiments competing against each other in basic average kills per member competition. We will only count the actives in the stats and give daily updates so regiments know where they stand. At the end of the three days we will rank all the regiments 1-14 and the top eight will advance to the second part of the competition.

We are using Average kills per member since if we used total kills some regiments would have an advantage since they have more members that the other regiments. Using average kills per member allows regiments of different numbers of members to compete equally. We have an easy way to not only calculate the totals and averages for the regiments (all we need to do a quick copy/paste and then let the spreadsheet do the calculations) but we also have a way of excluding the inactives from the data (they are highlighted then we go in and delete their old kill numbers).

Daily updates will come at some point during the first couple hours of the day, giving regiments a chance to figure out where they are and what they need to do to advance to the next part of the competition.

Weekend Break - Sat/Sun
Since the Erep world is slightly less active during the weekend than it is during the week, we are going to give people a short break.. Sometime early Saturday we will publish a list of the top 8 regiments and a bracket that they will compete in giving captains and their members time to work together and come up with a plan for the second part of the competition.

Regiment Competition Part 2 - Top 8 Regiments, Knockout Tournament, Mon/Tues/Wed
The second part of the competition will be a knockout style tournament between the top eight ranked regiments who advanced from the first part of the competition. This head to head match up style will require people to communicate with each other and come up with a plan in order to win the whole thing. Below is a graphic of what the tournament will look like:

These head to head match ups will be similar to the first part of the competition be based off of average kills per member for each regiment. However, we are going to implement a bonus point system for the regiments to allow them to increase their total score.

For the bonus system, at the beginning of the day when we update the bracket, a special number will be announced which uniformed members of the regiment will attempt to have their daily kill totals END IN. Since regiments don’t have the same number of members we will base this bonus point system on a 10 point scale matched up with a percentage of your regiments members who are uniformed and complete matching the number for the day.

Since this seems confusing let me explain it better by using an example. Lets say we are on the second round of the bracket on Tuesday, with four total regiments advancing from the previous day into the semi-final matchups for Tuesday. That morning, a number will be announced, let's say that number is 7. For that day of Tuesday, any uniformed member of the regiment that gets a kill total ending with the number 7 (7, 17, 27, 37, 47, 57, 67, 77, 87, 97, 107, etc.) will be counted and then divided by the total number of members to get a percentage. In our example lets say a regiment has 20 active members and 12 of them are uniformed up and manage to get a kill total ending with the number 7 for Tuesday, or 12/20=60% of the members. This 60% will be converted to a number on the 10 point scale, in this case it’s simple and will converted to 6.0 and these 6.0 bonus kill points will be added to the regiments total average kills per member to compare to the other regiment they are competing against.

This type of tournament system will force a lot of planning and communication (Captains will be forced to talk to their members and alert them as to what is going on) which will only help EZC down the road. There will be a lot of strategizing in this as well, do you go all out in the early rounds just to advance but not have that many supplies available to your regiment to win the Championship? Do the top regiments try and take it easy the first round and save up for the later ‘more challenging’ rounds and risk getting knocked out by a lower ranked regiment?

Does a regiment communicate so well that they manage to get nearly every single member to have their kill total and get 9.3 bonus points added to their kill average and win because the regiment they were competing against only managed to get 2.2 bonus points even though they had a higher average kill?

One more example just to clarify things if you are still slightly confused. Lets say we have two regiments competing in the championship, and the kill total ending number was 5. Regiment A has a total of 18 active members and managed to get an average of 84.5 kills per member that day. They managed a lot of kills per member but only 4 of their 18 total members were uniformed and managed to get their kill totals to end with the number 5, so their bonus points to add to their total average kills per member would be 4/18, or 22% which would be tied to the 10 point max and get a total of 2.2 bonus points, leaving them with a total of 86.7 points for the day.

Their competitor, Regiment B has a total of 15 active members and they managed to get 81.3 average kills per member that day. However, they also managed to get 14 of their 15 total members all uniformed up, communicating and matching the kill total ending number of 5 for that day. So their bonus points would be 14/15, or 93% which when applied to the 10 point scale gives them 9.3 bonus point leaving them with a total of 90.6 total points. Although they lost the average kills per member count they won because they were better coordinated and followed directions better than the other regiment.

I hope that explains it easy enough for people to understand, the hardest part will be for the people actually coordinating the whole thing since we will have to handle all the calculations. For the actual members, just kill, kill and kill some more for the first part so that your regiment advances and gets a good rank. In the second part continue killing but this time you will be forced to work with your regiment to hit certain numbers to get bonus points which could really help your regiment advance and win the whole thing!

Individual Competition - Open to Everyone Wed/Thurs/Fri and Mon/Tues/Wed
The individual competition will be open to everyone and follows the same timeline as the regiment competition (3 day initial part, 2 day weekend break and 3 day final part). Your kill stats will be recorded and added together so that we have a total kills for you for the 6 days. We will publish a list of the top killers and update it daily so you know where you stand compared to everyone else.

All you have to do to win this competition is just beat everyone else when it comes to kills. It may seem difficult competing against some of the top players in the regiment, but with candy bars, bazookas and EZC’s handing out of a lot of food and weapons to anyone (well, working in a commune and having a uniform helps) gives everyone a chance to get a heck of a lot of kills and compete for the chance to win this competition.

Since who you fight during a war in ERep us based off of strength, the higher level players do not really have an advantage over the lower level players since the higher level players are paired up against higher level competition during wars. Lower level players are paired up with lower level competition during wars so the playing field during wars is fairly level. The only thing that may be a bit unfair is the fact that the higher level players likely produce their own food and weapons while younger level players depend more on EZC rations to get their kills. The solution for this - get more kills per day and apply for EZC HAD or EZC HAD ELITE the next day to get more tanks to use to get more kills. So more kills = more tanks = more kills = more tanks = better chance to win!

That’s all for now, if people have questions feel free to ask below and someone will answer them. There will be early morning updates of the War Games so you can see where you and your regiment stand. We will also update the prizes and any small changes to the competition as needed. Good Luck and have fun killing!
