This issue addresses the game mechanics and how they can influence the elections held in eRepublik. It also addresses how to make elections representative again.
First of all congratulations to Free Belgium for winning an absolute majority in congress. Congratulations to Res Belgica for winning their second seat. And congratulations to eBelgium for Ebelgians for their popularity which is sadly not translated into seats.

By looking at these graphs you can see a large discrepancy between the election results expressed in votes on one hand and expressed in seats on the other hand. eBelgium for eBelgians (Bf

😎, yet it has 4 seats less in congress. This is due to the game’s election mechanics. Voting happens in regions, voting districts. These are generally seen as obstacles distorting election results. And eBelgium is a good example of distorted elections.

The results in eBrussels are the least distorted. It has a larger population and large numbers are known to normalize elections by the ”law of large numbers”. The reason eBrussels has a large number of citizens is that it has a Q5 Hospital and there are training wars going on. The other regions lack a hospital which makes the military obliged to live in eBrussels.
The biggest winner in eBrussels is BfB. Their most famous members, their icons campaigned in Brussels and got very good results. The top-7 who are all elected in eBrussels has 5 members of BfB. Their Party Leader LaValeureuxLiegeois is the election winner with 38 votes, which is more than 7%. This undoubtful makes them the biggest winner in eBrussels. Second is Free Belgium, who got 3 seats in congress and their icon, Rod Damon, ending second in row with 27 votes. Also congratulations to Rithulme who receiver a nice score and was able to keep its seat.

Flanders has a voting population less than half the size of eBrussels. A large distortion of the voting happened here. Altough BfB had 5 more votes than FreeB, it has one seat less. Howcome so? Because of the system mechanics. The votes for the candidates that didn't get elected in BfB should have gone to only 2 candidates, which should have given them 2 more seats and less distorted results. The votes for FreeB are nicely divided over all candidates which got them more seats than they should have according to their votes. Well played, FreeB!

Because of the low amount of voters the results in Wallonia aren't really representative. FreeB made an advantage of their lower amount of votes since they all went to the same persons. BfB could have had a seat more if it had some more tactical voters. Especially congratulations to Res Belgica for winning their second seat in congress!
How and by who can the election results become representative?
1. Government: Every region should receive a hospital. This will divide people over all regions and give every region a large number of people. But this is expensive and can be lost when the country is ran over by enemy forces. A top down action that needs a lot of consensus.
2. Parties: All parties can urge their members to vote tactical. Thus, waiting till the night to vote so some condidates can receive the last votes and no votes go to waste. This can result in a self-destroying prophecy. Because if everyone waits to the night, no votes will be cast. BfB should have a long march out of eBrussels into the other regions. They can win the same amount of seats in eBrussels with less votes.
3. eRep admins: The D'hondt election system which divides votes from the biggest winners to the candidates with less votes. So the votes for the same party are divided over the candidates. More infoabout the D'hondt method can be found here. Easier than a complicated method is just hiding the results until the elections are over. Which would make tactical voting impossible.

Interesting suggestions at the end, although hiden voting could end in "icons" having most votes, some votes to unknown people from their friends, and tactical voting directed from external party forums (which would mostly benefit highly organized groups, such as military or PTO units).
