eWorld Battlefields Report [Days 1429-1430]
by Janko Fran, October 19-20 2011

There have passed exactly 125 days since my last warfare analysis (Day 1304). Let's see what has changed since than.

eWorld Battles on the Day 1429

Today on day 1429 there were totally 50 battles in the eWorld. The main focal point is still in Europe, where 50 % of battles took place. Asia follows with 24 % of battles (7 of them in Middle East, the remaining 5 in East and Southeast Asia). In South America wars are getting more intense with 16 % of all battles, Australia follows with 6 %, and finally Africa and North America each with 2 % (or 1 battle each).

European fronts

This is how the map of Europe looked on day 1304.

Europe on the day 1304

Here is how Europe looks today, on the day 1429.

Europe on the day 1429

When we compare these two maps, it is interesting to see which countries have strengthened and which have weakened since then.

On EDEN/Terra side USA, Brazil, Ireland, Canada, Norway, Finland, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Cyprus and Russia have gained in territory and strength. Croatia stayed at the same level, but now, when moved away from being almost completely surrounded by enemy forces, has good perspective to expand and still keep its core regions. Italy is still weak and occupied by Slovenia and Serbia, France still holds long, but pressed by Poland and Serbia, we will see how long can it resist. Also, various small countries like Denmark (neutral), Czech Republic (proEDEN) and Belarus (EDEN), have reappeared on the map, and Austria (officially neutral, but actually more proONE oriented, considering their surrounding they don't have much options), Belgium (neutral), Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina (proEDEN/Terra) have become more stable on the map.

On ONE side Spain, Sweden, Hungary and Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) have all lost territories, Poland has stayed on the same level and only Serbia has gained some extra regions. Among the affiliated non-members of ONE UK and Slovakia have lost some regions, too (including Turkey, which switched from being affiliated Non-member of ONE to Neutral), and Slovenia has gained a region or two. All in all, on ONE side only Serbia and Slovenia profited after filling gaps which Croatia has left.

Considering Spain and Poland, if we look a bit further to the eHistory, they haven't gained much from changing their aliance from EDEN to ONE; both Poland and Spain have lost all their American colonies and haven't gained much in Europe either, quite on the contrary.

Domination of ONE in Europe, Day 1429

If we take a look on the map which points out territories held by ONE/ABC allies, we can see that European mainland is still practically dominated by ONE forces, while EDEN/Terra forces are present on European peripheries. If we look a bit closer to ONE/ABS held territories, we could see that it looks more or less like Swiss cheese, with many small and large holes in it.

All that indicates that ONE alliance although stronger in numbers turned to "EveryONE-for-himself" "alliance" without much help and coordination between members. Complete Terra has gained strength and dominates on all of their territories. EDEN is also a bit stronger, although still in difficult position, but with some help and good cooperation with Terra manages to resist.

Reappearance and strengthening of small countries (Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway, Belarus), which have been out of the map for quite a while indicates that EDEN has switched to guerrilla war tactics, which has proven to be successful and leads to faster liberating of more regions than ONE can keep and reconquer.

However, alternative and more realistic explanation for reappearance of small countries, depending from which side you look at it, would be that this might be of cyclic eRepublik nature just as well, but aren't all things cyclic in eRepublik?. In short, there have been some successful negotiations for small countries representatives (for instance Austrian-Slovakian region swap). Besides, congress elections are nearing and that is always a good way for congress medal harvest. It would be a pity to miss it. More about that and other eRep events and battles you can read here: #83 O.O. I would like to thank Nazafyn for pointing this out to me.

EDEN Countries

EDEN is obviously in difficult position in Europe; the only EDEN countries that have all their original regions are China and, surprisingly, Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina(!, although, to be more precise, BiH is actually only proEDEN country recently). The remaining EDEN countries are either partly (Croatia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Finland, Norway, Belarus), or fully occupied (Ukraine, Israel, Australia).

EDEN/Terra Countries in Europe, Day 1429

Croatian Conquista - Croatia Turning Transatlantic

However, Croatia here stands out. After recent changes in game mechanics and realizing that its position in half surrounded core regions can not be perpetually prolonged, after careful planning and cooperation with other EDEN and Terra members, Croatians have made tactically sound and clever steps toward moving their capital from their core regions to the West. More precisely to Castilla La Mancha, Spain, sorry, I mean, Croatia, and reaching more friendly environment in Middle (Mexico) and South America (Columbia) using Italian and Spanish territory to advance and preventing Serbia to follow them through Spanish core regions.

Croatia - a Transatlantic Country on Three Continents, Day 1429

This is for the first time in eHistory that Croatia has become a country which spreads over three continents: Europe, North America and South America.

This moves offer Croatia more chance to expand and boost its economy by collecting more regions with different resources after settling in Mexico in the first phase. Another great advantage for Croatia is that it is close to its ally, the USA. These two strong allied countries combined together can achieve their goals easier and provide mutual help to each other. In the second phase Croatia can start heavy resistant wars in its occupied core regions which are currently held by Serbia, thus weakening Serbia and liberating Croatian regions without risk of geopardizing Croatian economy, nor being deleted.

Today Croatia conquered region Pacifica in South America which opens a gate to Oceania and South Pacific region (Visayas region, Philippines) held by China. From there it is only a small step for Croatia to reach Indonesia and Australia in order to join US-Brasilian-Chinese-Australian pursuit to drive out Indonesia from Australia and probably erase Indonesia from the map of the eWorld. Being well coordinated, I am sure that EDEN/Terra forces will make such arrangements when the time is right.

Serbia and Kosovo

On the other hand, Serbia has expanded it's territory to the West, following Croatia to Italy, but Croatians managed to stop them on Spanish borders. Serbia has also won a diplomatic battle for Kosovo, which has more psychological effect for Serbia, boosting Serbian confidence (perhaps even too much, according to their ONE HQ article, which they revoked just an hour later after realizing its negative effects). However, Kosovo might show to be nothing more than a Danaic gift for Serbia from Admins. Material gain is not so high, because Kosovo is still not added, and when it will be added, it will probably not bring any new resources for Serbia. Still, luckily for Serbia, it will prevent resistance wars on Kosovo territory. Further, adding Albania to the game will put more pressure on Serbia. Although Serbia won diplomatic war for Kosovo putting their pressure mostly against Admins, but also pressing their allies in ONE and creating a global Kosovo propaganda war, this wasn't without costs. Serbian relations with Turkey deteriorated significantly, but if both countries calm down the tensions it might get better. However, knowing both Serbian and Turkish mentality, this can hardly be expected soon. So, in the end gaining Kosovo to Serbia (and adding Albania) could mean only getting more pressure, challenges and enemies for Serbians, more gold for Admins and more fun to the game (as well as no more gray areas on European map).

Middle East

Middle East on the Day 1430

Middle East is divided between Iran, Turkey and Cyprus. Egypt, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates are still on the map, but with just a couple of regions in hands of relatively small numbers of players, without any significant social or economic development. However, both eEgypt and eSaudi Arabia are struggling for its survival mostly through more or less skillful negotiations, so recently we have seen eEgypt winning several resistance wars against Greece, bringing it even out of the map. However, Cyprus and INCI are too big bite for both, internally divided Egypt and Saudi Arabia, unless they manage to find allies who could help them become more stable and organize a serious baby boom. Until then, Cyprus will easily have them under control.

The Big Picture

If ONE stands well in Europe, here is how the global picture looks like:

Terra/EDEN global domination, Day 1429

Beside Europe, ONE dominates Australia as well. However, Terra/EDEN forces are dominant in North and South America, Asia and Africa. If EDEN/Terra have loosened pressure in Europe a bit, they might increase it in Australia, winning another continent for Terra/EDEN. All in all, all allied forces have grouped geographically, which would probably bring more stability on the eWorld map. Unless we get more surprises as usual.

Faithfully yours,

Janko Fran
