Romania Declares War On Iran, Dictates ATLANTIS Policy

Coral Gables, FL - Early this morning, while most of the US was sipping their morning coffee, the president of Romania declared war on Iran. He announced in a press statement that the invasion would be to liberate Chinese lands and check PEACE aggression in the region by establishing "outposts" for ATLANTIS in southeastern Asia. In response, Pakistan made land swap agreements with Iran, eliminating any Romanian-Iranian border through which the invasion could take place. PEACE further challenged ATLANTIS power by declaring war on Australia, a nation that holds only three territories and has no MPP agreements, hospitals, or defense systems of any sort.

Romanian leaders responded quickly, claiming that if PEACE used game mechanics from preventing a military invasion, Romania would orchestrate political sabotage. This second announcement contradicted the first in some ways, though, claiming that a direct fight with Indonesia was the intent of the war, not mentioning Chinese liberation.

Because Romania made such a point, at first, in saying the operation was a cooperative ATLANTIS effort, The eUSA Today caught up with President Uncle Sam here at the nation's best hospital, the University of Miami Q5 Medical Center, where he was visiting a group of wounded soldiers. Sam questioned Indonesia's willingness to stay and fight, citing thier recent failure to pursue territory in India once ATLANTIS got involved. Despite being the Commander in Chief, Sam seemed painfully unaware of many recent developments in the Romania-Iran-Pakistan conflict. Even more surprisingly, he said that "nothing really significant has been posted on the ATLANTIS forums," despite the fact that Romania claimed full ATLANTIS backing. And how much say did the US have in this decision? "Not much ... it wasn't really discussed." This raises questions about Romania's willingness to participate in the ATLANTIS group as an equal member, instead unilaterally declaring policy.

Vice President Joe DaSmoe also spoke with The eUSA Today from his office in Washington. DaSmoe said the US military was "aware" of Romania's actions, but would not specifically comment further, citing that "foreign affairs are not exactly my area." He did stress that the US needs to focus more on training, both in terms of game experience and actually experiencing a real eRepublik war from the battlefield. "Getting everyone involved and properly educated on how to battle is key."

Tennessee Congressman and Presidential hopeful Jewitt commented on the conflict as well. He voiced his support for Romania, if only to give US Marines more experience and keep the weapons market fluid. He suggested that the conflict would have little direct impact on America as a whole, unless Indonesia became directly involved. Jewitt has mentioned in his campaign that he would support less US involvement in ATLANTIS.

For the PEACE perspective on the issue, GLadDOS spoke to The eUSA Today in IRC Chat. He said that Romania was "pig disgusting" for "invading a neutral country." This is an interesting statement, considering the lack of respect for neutral borders that PEACE nations such as Pakistan and Indonesia have shown. GLadDOS continued to make "official statements," mainly mocking the American public and posting YouTube music videos.

--From the Editor--

First off, I would like to help out some of our newer players by defining a couple of things. ATLANTIS is an acronym for a military alliance that the United States and Romania are both members of, as well as several other nations. PEACE is also a military alliance and includes Pakistan and Indonesia. ATLANTIS and PEACE are enemies.
Also, to newer players, you will be able to fight in wars once you reach level 5, provided that the US is involved. To learn how, VP Joe and the Dept of Education have published several very helpful guides on war in eRepublik.

To the rest of you, thanks for reading the second edition of The eUSA Today, and a big thank you to everyone who took time to talk to us. Except GLadDOS. I really do appreciate your votes and the 7 subscriptions. I hope that everyone will take time to consider Romania's actions and the US lack of response. This signals that either Romania is completely and unilaterally in charge of ATLANTIS, or that the US Administration is not up to speed with the rest of the eWorld. Whichever the case, it is not a good sign for the US.
Thanks for reading,

GLadDOS: now that i realise you speak intelligently
GLadDOS: i would be willing to give you a real statement
GLadDOS: As PEACE secretary, i am both insulted and angered by Romania's unprovoked assault of Iran. Proper protocol within the PEACE global community is being finalized, and the PEACE Global community will act on the Charter that it was founded on: PEACE at home, PEACE in the world.

Editor: eUSA Today thanks GLadDOS for his time and comments. Today would also like to thank Jewitt for his full endorsement of this paper.
