Erepublik V1 launch date and politics in the new version
Dear Citizens,
The V1 launch date will be between the 1st and the 15th of October
As [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/en/a] predicted in his article (he is very close): '[a url=http://www.erepublik.com/en/a]' V1 will be launched during the first half of October. With this announcement, we have to close [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/en/a] and then when the exact launch day is made public, the winners will gather their prizes.
We will continue to regularly present the changes that will be available in V1 and in this article you will find out more details about the political module.
Congressional elections
The members of each congress will be able to propose and vote for several types of laws in V1 ([a url=http://www.erepublik.com/en/a]) . In order to have more responsible members in this position, the congressional elections module will be completely changed. Therefore, we will introduce the uninominal electoral system, where each Citizen will vote for a candidate and not for the party as it is in the Beta. The candidates will still be proposed by the party presidents, but they better choose carefully if they want to form a government that can pass laws.
Country presidents
The country presidents will have the possibility to:
- Write a message to the new Citizens in their country. This will be the first private message that the new born Citizens will get in their Inbox.
- Buy hospitals and a new top-secret type of building (we like keeping a few things secret - makes us feel like Apple). Before proposing this acquisition to congress, the president will be able to select the region where the new buildings go.
- Sign Mutual protection pact - To start a MPP will cost gold from the treasury of both countries and each MPP signed will be valid only for one month, starting from the moment it is accepted by congress.
- Declare war and propose peace - but no nuclear red button yet.
- Stop trading with another country (economical war), kind of like the US embargo on Cuba.
All of these presidential proposals will need a majority of votes in congress in order to be approved.
Another feature that was requested by Citizens, and that will be introduced in V1, is the possibility for the party presidents to select their candidate for the presidential seat. Only the presidential candidates of the top 5 parties in a country will enter the race.
Last elections for mayors
On the 20th of September, we will have the last elections for mayors in Erepublik. This position will no longer exist in V1, however we will reconsider having it back in Erepublik when more complex attributes can be assigned to the mayors. Also, the local elections will be replaced by the congressional elections.
New dates for the elections in V1
All three types of elections will take place monthly just like in the Beta, but the new dates will be:
Presidential elections -5th of each month
Party elections - 15th of each month
Congressional elections – 25th of each month

in the euk we have a lot of use for mayors we have developed a gifting system that mayors do.
@ Khala: This can be continued by individually (uninominally) elected congressmen - if the president agrees to transmit the local funds to congressmen - this can be voted in the Congress. Where there\'s a will, there\'s a way!

Nice job. Although I disagree with some measures (e.g: I think mayors have done a good job for their regions), V1 will be great. And thanks a lot for thinking of our hangovers (not only admins have them the 1st of January...)
No mayors. In my opinion polical affairs loose some fun. Less people can play to politics.
About congress elections, may be it is the best choice in the real world, but here it will become a popularity contest and always will be the same people in the congress. We will loose some democracy.

Presidental elections
- you should allow Parties to nominate their candidates, no matter if they are Party Persidents or not, and allow non-party candidates to nominate also, and for all candidates there should be some fee to enter elections - 40 Gold - easy to collect through donations, like in RL.
That way only people and Parties who are really interested will run for President seat
Congress elections
- there should finallybe possibility of creating Party coalitions
Interesting changes
IMHO, also no need for closing mayor\'s positions, but a contrary - there should be possibility for mayors to have easier access to city funds, and creating of City Councils (for example - all candidates on local elections, or top two with Mayor) would really boost local politics and make it muuuuch more interesting

Awful...that means that you have to resign every month and pay gold every month.
That was small countries can say byebye to their sovereignty, they will eventually run out of gold.
But at least you got another way now to take our money.

No mayors!!! That seems a bit drastic...
@Pericle: As a Citizen, in the election day for congress, you will chose one of the five parties in the race, and click a button to see the the list of proposed citizens of that party for a congress seat. Than you will vote for a Citizen and the Congress seats will be divided by taking into consideration the number votes received by each candidate. The highest number of citizens that can enter these elections is 200 (5 parties x 40 candidates/party)
Mayors never did anything other then give you 80 points. I am glad that they are being removed because really they just took up space in the media with campaign articles and such. The only thing they could really do was purchase hospitals which was not a common event.
anyways I really want to hear more about these raw materials. I have been holding off making a company because I want to hear more about that first.

The removal of Mayor position is a very big fault. We enjoy local affairs, and builted up a management system to have local business kept local, while countrywide affairs managed at congress level.
You took away the only thing working well in current politics. Vote 4/10
Please rethink at your decision... we need Mayors.

Maybe there could be some kind of intermediate solutions. Like, regions with ten or more people can get a mayor, while regions with less than ten people are managed directly from the central government.

Imagine Budapest - capital of Hungary in the RL - now under Romanian occupation having a Hungarian Mayor in Beta... elected in the local election.
And imagine Budapest having a Hungarian congressman in V1... elected in the general elections, in the Romanian Congress...

Will the cost in gold depends on how many people live in both countries? I hope it won\'t be too easy for the richest (and biggest) countries to became powerful.

In my opinion the mayor removal thing is not a good idea. I am not a mayor but I am convinced that mayors keep the country organised and help a lot in splitting atributions. Now eCongressmans must do all the work while the rest of the eCitizens do nothing but 2 clicks + Companies to manage + other programs (military SO\'s, health care SO\'s, s.o.). You are simply stopping the citizens from getting involved in politics (witch is the game\'s idea).

Well tbh atm i dont see a use for mayor, what the ydo is nothing at all.
Only thing is some coutnries (ie UK) evolved the role to get them to give nout gifts, that can still be done.

Frankly, I think I prefer the beta version, this v1 sounds awful...
Mayors may be no use in countries with small populations, but in big countries like Spain or UK they do a lot more than you think.

Everything sounds fine except for getting rid of local government. I think you should be expanding their options. As someone (I forget who) said earlier in the comments, big regions are more efficient with a mayor.

Why aren\'t congressmen chosen by region? I thought the whole point of having a Congress was to represent the people and not the party they came from. Keep local elections but have it be for voting for their representative(s) in congress.
I agree with NoneSuch. With Mayors being out of the picture, Congressmen should be a regional, local choice. This still provides power for Grassroots intiatives and lending regions a specific voice.
That is crap. Without mayors, there is no reason for there to even be regions.

As I said in GabrielIP\'s petition, my Mayor helped me raise 15% Wellness in my first 3 days as an ecitizen. Mayors are fighting for welth of citizen in their region. Do you thing congressmen will be interested in EVERY region of the country ? Or maybe important regions (like capitals or >500 citizen regions) or wars will consume most of their interest and time spent here ? I must say, I\'m TOTALY against taking Mayors down !
Also, think about every new citizen with few friends, who will help them get around here, how will they get an elife ? The Mayor is the first help they get until they will be on their own feet. Please, do not take this action !
