eRep in Maps - September 9th - Canadian Edition

Day 659, 19:05 Published in Canada USA by Mainegreen

As usual, let me start by saying you must visit eGobba's World Map. This tool is invaluable to anyone, especially in helping me try and collect the visual representation of what the heck is going on in eRep.

In order to understand these maps here is the legen😛

Included below the continental pictures is a link to allow you to see a larger version of the image.

Yesterday's Article

This is the touring edition of this paper
There are two editions of this paper. One is always published in the US. The other moves from place to place. Yesterday it was Japan. Today it is Canada. Because I really like Canada. I hope you like this paper. If you enjoy it, either subscribe, or check out the daily edition published in the US.

Editor's Note
Yesterday was the day:

Thank you, and a big effing thanks to Pangolin, who I sent half the gold to for the award. Don't send it back dammit Pangolin! Keep it. Also thanks to Aaron S our official unofficial editor, who points out when I post blatantly wrong things.

Moving on, I'm sure everyone noticed the new blimpy beach vibed eRep today, and several fancied up pages. I however noticed one big mistake, which the admins hastily fixe😛

In eRep, the weekends evidently start with Sunday, and end on Saturday.

Major alliance change
Canada is joining EDEN. How big a change is this? Not to big really. EDEN/Fortis worked together this whole war. In most news you saw them posted as one wor😛 EDEN/Fortis, as if it was one alliance. Canada is still intending to formalize a 'brolliance', as the Canadian PM termed it, with the US, and as Fortis was really just a 'Brolliance' between Canada and the US, I see little changing there. Who knows, it may be that at the end of the war, the US applies for membership as well. Or the US may just stand on it's own, allied with EDEN but a force of it's own to be reckoned with. However, this means I have to redraw a bunch of Canadian blazons at some point to remove the Fortis alliance flag from them, and I will do the same to the US blazons as well, placing us with no formal alliance, same as Spain and a number of other nations. But not today. Today, as far as I'm concerned in these maps, Fortis still exists.

North America

* The US conquered Russia's last western state: Colorado. The US hero was Swede st00r. The Russian hero was the Indonesian tank NicoSianipar.

* At this point, most people assumed that the US would have a hard time continuing the assault on Russia. Colombia had attacked the US, keeping our initiative suppressed. However, there is an escape: partial initiative. By retreating any open battles, a defender may gain initiative in another war where they won the last battle, or had no battles for 24 hours. So, Emerick retreated New Mexico to gain initiative against Russia. A classic tactic played well. New Mexico became Colombia's. The American hero was Justinious McWalburgson III, an American. The Colombian hero was Chapa, the Argentinian.

* Using the temporary initiative bought with New Mexico, America attacked Russian held Indiana.

* At this point, it became abundantly clear to PEACE that securing the border against Canada would do nothing to stop an enemy willing to give up territories to ruthlessly removing Russia from North America. The diabolical landswaps would only help the US attain this goal sooner, and so PEACE started fighting to crush these battles. However it was too late. First Pennsylvania was returned to US rule. The hero for the US (the resistance) was dakyk1 the Croatian. The hero for Russia was emremania the Turk. New York state fell to the resistance at the same time, with the American resistance hero being the Romainain Roscatul. The Russian hero was Budi Setiawan an Indonesian. Also note Parter and 4epT both got the now ironic resistance hero awards for starting these battles.

* Further north, Hungary defeated the Canadian double whammy against Nunavut. The Canadian heroes were Noel Guns of Brixton, an Italian who appears to be a PEACE citizen who feels very strongly that Canada should be free, and Billy Bob Joe, Canada's #9. The Hungarian heroes were gogobzs and Stric Matic, who are Hungarian and Slovenian respectively.

* No further attacks against Hungary occurred, and Hungary did not take the initiative they now have to attack Canada. Why? Canada only has home territories, so any attack on Canada would activate her MPPs in the war against Hungary, making it easier to drive Hungary out of North America. Plus, Canada's border with Russia was soon to disappear, with all border regions engaged in battles already. Canada has no way to remove Russia's initiative. Canada did not attack Hungary, as she faced no current threat from Hungary, and her forces were better spent helping her American allies. Thus, a cold front opened in the Arctic part of this war.

* The US attack on Missouri succeeded, recapturing the state from Russia. The American hero was Matthew29, an American citizen. The Russian hero was the Indonesian handray.

* Next up, the formerly diabolical landswap in Wisconsin succeeded. With so many battles open, and fighters deployed in so many locations, PEACE and Fortis/EDEN each ended up being the heroes for the other's side, unlike the swap in positions in New York in Pennsylvania. The hero for the Resistance was Ano, a Serb. The hero against the resistance was Chisholm, a Peruvian and I do believe to be an American expat.

* Colombia got around to removing America's initiative a few hours later by attacking Oklahoma. Oklahoma has the lowest population of any US state that Colombia borders, and is thus the cheapest to attack, as well as helping Colombia move east.

* Mexico landswapped both Oaxaca and Pacific Coast of Mexico back from Colombia. Southeast of Mexico was not landswapped as it is in the throws of a resistance war, and thus retreat would be impossible. Plus, if Mexico wished to get that territory back, all PEACE would have to do is fight for the resistance. Which at this point is what was occuring.

* The American attack on Russian Iowa succeeded. The American hero was Romanian Shadowman Fza. The Russian hero was Tamas Horvath, a Hungarian.

* Southeast of Mexico was conquered by the Resistance Force in the war versus Colombia. Thus the resistance war started by Fortis/EDEN with ulterior motives gets turned into a free landswap for Mexico. Marking as landswap, as that's how it ended up. The Resistance hero, thus the PEACE hero was the Mexican Dhoo. The hero for Fortis/EDEN was Geokos, who also started the war. Geokos wins an award either way!

* Now, the war module does like to drink, so it can be a bit slow on the timing. The history list in eRep, the one you and I see, diverges frequently from what the battle module sees. If you look at the history, you may wonder how the US attacked Russia, as it appears we attack, and then retreat. However, the war module sees data just a little bit differently. I will report according to what the war module sees, which shows the US retreating first, and not what the history shows. In this case, the history is wrong, as battles take a while to wind down and close even after they've been retreated, granting partial initiative allowing attacking in another war.

* The US, wanting to further attack Russia, retreated Oklahoma, giving it to Colombia. This gives the US initiative in the war with Russia, as the US is no longer under attack. The American hero was Spanish citizen McOdd, getting his first award. The Colombian hero was the Serb Jugoslav.

* Using the newly found initiative, the US attacked Russian held Illinois...

* As well as attacking Russian Connecticut.

* Next up in America's seemingly relentless war on Russia, the state of Minnesota fell to the American attack. The American hero was Swede Jensapensa. The Russian hero was Sr-Fraude, a Portuguese citizen.

* Forty five minutes after retreating Oklahoma, Colombia had still not gotten around to attacking the US. Perhaps the Colombian president was napping and had asked not to be disturbed. Given that the US had taken Minnesota, Emerick took the initiative and coordinated a double whammy against Russian held Massachusetts. The resistance war war started by Vice-Commandant Lucius "Lucky" Varenus.
* At this point New Jersey and Rhode Island are the only Russian territories not under attack.

* Eventually Colombia got around to suppressing the US's initiative by attacking Texas. I presume the reasoning here is that Emerick would never retreat Texas, as Texas is one of the big US states, population and economy-wise.

* The Canary Islands were reclaimed by Spain through the resistance war started by Che Greco. Andalusia - like the Canary Islands were, also held by Brazil - is now the only original-Spanish-territory not controlled by Spain. The Brazilian Marco Polo was his side's battle hero, adding 20321 points to the wall. The Spanish citizen Saboteur, who did less than 1/3 the damage of Marco Polo, was the hero for red. Note that the Canary Islands bordered the Southeast of Mexico. Many felt that Spain would push into Colombian Mexico from here. If Colombia did not landswap it back, I suspect this might have been the case, but it would have taken 24 hours for Spain to even declare war on Colombia, so it was a long term plan left open, if so.

* Lower Saxony and Bremen was returned to Germany by Hungary through a resistance war.
* Hungary began another resistance war, this time in Rhineland-Palatinate, to return more German territory.

Asia
reported by Pangolin

* The High Grain region of Gyeonggi-do was conquered by the TheoKoreacy in the resistance war started by leop against Japan. The hero for the Union of Japan and Korea was Lhasa, who is not a Tibetan city but an Austrian citizen winning his first award. The hero for Theo-Korea was Bic deWille, a citizen of Sweden we've seen often on the European and North American fronts.
* As first reported by KITA ikki, yesterday Mainegreen "liberated the eJapanese news media from the mish-mash of Theocratic spam" and in the process earned his Media Mogul Medal. Congrats to the boss for a very well-earned award. Also, in the interests of neutrality, no Theocrats were harmed in the publication of this paper. 😃

Africa
reported by Pangolin

* Brazil held onto Free State in the resistance started by DomiBoss. As best as can be determined, this resistance was meant to be a distraction for Brazil away from the Canary Islands - however, since South Africa is contractually bound to pay for this territory when it is liberated, Brazil didn't have much to lose here. The lack of interest in this battle can be demonstrated by who the battle heroes were: Both mAonk for green, and axllyne for red, are members of the same militia - which calls itself BlackList. They are also the first and third ranked citizens of Japan, respectively.

Closed Training wars
* See previous days maps for locations of started training wars.
* After a delayed start, the training war between the Philippines and Malaysia in Sabah was cut short by today's update. By the time the server came back up, the training war was already down - wasting Philippines' President Ariel David Buena's considerable efforts to stay up and start the training war at 2:30 am local time so everybody could fight in it for two days.
* Latvia took it's ball and went home early from Samogitia, Lithuania, after their regular training war was cut short by the update. France signed an alliance with Lithuania, possibly planning to join this training war now that their front with Spain has quieted down.

Thanks for reading, Canada, and lets punish whoever came up with the term 'brolliance' together.
