Enter the Doldrums

Day 726, 10:36 Published in Japan Japan by Laurana Psion

The 5th of November is an auspicious day; especially for politics. A while back, in another plane of existence, a disgruntled fellow with a few gripes about his government took it upon himself to change the way things were being done. Others might have decided to assault pedestrians with leaflets, organise protests, or even get into politics themselves and go toe to toe with the opposition in a series of flame wars. But not this guy…

He instead, was a driven man with a short and simple plan. He’d just stick a pile of gunpowder below where the government meet and then blow them all up. No need to bother with any political bickering.

Nothing quite like an explosion to make a statement

But how does this relate to us in eRepublik?

Well, on the 5th of November, which just passed but 10 days ago, eJapan saw a “changing of the guard”. President Oraizan stepped down from her post and was succeeded by Dokomo who achieved a landslide victory in the presidential elections held on that very same day. However, this new executive-to-be was not well received by a portion of the populace. At night, shortly before the official results of the election were in, this select group of individuals decided that the best way to change how things were about to be done was to take control of the contents of eJapan’s treasury.

As such, the vaults of not one, not two, but three organisations were broken into and emptied of their contents. Well… I lie; a few bits of loose change were lying around when this act had been discovered by Representative Daeish. But other than that, the vast majority had been promptly placed on the Monetary Market, where the Swiss-Banking-esque lack of accessible records allowed a vast amount of funds to be laundered and funnelled off into the depths of the night. The d’Amin, to whom us low beings appeal to in our times of need, were characteristically cryptic and silent.

The NBJ vault was as bare as the trees on the outside

Unsurprisingly, this news was not well met with joyful arms and shortly, suspicions arose and fingers were pointed. “Who could have done this?” “Three orgs all at once?” “Must be an inside job!” “Who has access to all three?” “Surely not, only trusted people had the passwords! Must be a hack!”. Things weren’t really helped by the grammatically incorrect “Române Victoriei” shouted from each of the looted organisations, which in turn, caused some others to imagine that much larger forces were at play.

Eventually, the suspicion came to rest upon Walorm, formerly of the eJapanese Diet and Cabinet, as well as oddball sideshow Padraig Pearse, a “known rabble rouser” (and recipient of titles much worse) who himself was recently the subject of some manner of criminal proceeding (or at least a semi official chiding and hand slapping) within his home country eIreland.

In anycase, it came to be known that eJapan’s funds had found their way to Treasury DoK and were under the control of Walorm. Efforts to contact and question Walorm, who had fled to eSingapore where he still resides, were cryptically answered at best and only served to stoke the fires of suspicion.

Five?

Even now the true facts of the matter are vague and unclear and under investigation. Only time will reveal the full extent of what had transpired here. Nevertheless, there are a few “facts” that are more or less accepted as true by the majority of the eJapanese community.

• Walorm and Padraig Pearse have been identified as being actively involved, though to varying extent.
Yonai Keiko has been reported to have been aware of the event but not actually an active member of the plot. Instead, she was active after the event and attempted to disrupt the movement of emergency funds secured by the government through the use of an errant congressional proposal. She has since moved to eSpain.
• The main bulk of eJapan’s Treasury resides within the coffers of Treasury DoK (However, approximately 400 GOLD has recently been reported to have been re-laundered and moved to an as yet unknown location)

In light of such lack of clarity, the ZS has attempted to contact all those who are involved, in hopes that more of the truth may be revealed and that the public may be enlightened.

If you have any information and haven’t yet been contacted by the ZS, feel free to message the ZS’s editor. A follow up article to today’s will follow shortly.

In the meantime, I bid all readers a good day and hope that today’s party elections will at least end without scandal.
