As I had promised during my campaign, I said I would make a proposal for an overhaul of our communications systems.
I feel that right now there is a serious lack of communication between congress, the government, the dictator, and the eNL people.
For many people joining the game, or being in congress for the first time, there is nowhere where people can ask the basic questions or get a general idea of the grand picture of the eNL.
From an outsiders perspective it looks like this:
The country has a dictator. He is the only one who can vote on proposals brought before him. Besides that he does nothing but click a button.
Congress members are elected into congress, basically have nothing to do. They apply for congress, and hope they get voted in and as a result get 5 gold. They cannot propose laws in game, except go on a forum, argue with each other over text, and discuss things. They are basically ineffective.
The Government, They are picked by the President and few are even heard from by the community in game.
All in all, we lack proper communication.
On our site, which is not even promoted to the community, we have an irc.
Irc is an outdated tool.Its in effect a relic from the past. If your not online, you miss any info that is relevant.
I would like to therefore propose we get our own Discord.
On here the admins can setup chat channels, that can post news, military commanders can post orders, and we can even have voice communications.
Besides that, its browser based, as well as offers people the chance to have an app for it on their smart phone or tablet. You can also send communications to people privately.
All in all its easy to use as well.

Interesting, I've never heard of this tool but tbh I haven't really looked for different tools as well 🙂 We could try it out I guess. Also I have a Teamspeak3 server and can create a eRep channel if you want.

It is really useful, so I'm totally in favour of creating an eNL discord!
i don't see the need for something like discord.
we have the forum to communicate, discuss with the gov, make laws, etc.. (yes could use some more promoting)
we have irc to talk, not just with each other but also with foreign countries and officials from alliances.
why complicate it even more with something you need to download? both the forum and irc are easily reached trough your browser. (yes i'm myself not a fan of mibbit but for newer players it will suffice until they become a more permanent member of the community and will start using other tools to use irc)

Anything that will make it better than it is now (or in the past for that matter as I remember being totally clueless myself when I started) will do. IRC is indeed an outdated system that hardly works especially not when your not constantly online as you will miss a lot or if you stay online but are not constanly reading it will have a lot off reading to do to see what serious conversations happened inbetween all the bullshitting. To a certain point as if its busy old posts will vanish. I even prefer a forum when it comes to communicating and that says a lot. I wouldn't know if discord is an option. Never used it or checked, but as I said; Anything that would be an improvement would help. Make sure however it's simple to use and doesn't require to much actions from a player top activate/keep track. And if it's another big pile of data it will not work for sure either.
I'd like Auggy to pick a topic from forum, create a server channel and ask us some players to take part in the discussion of the topic.
Interesting. Happy to still see some progressive thinkers with ambition in our country. Now, I doubt if this would work sadly though. IRC is as easy as it gets (while outdated and perhaps scaring off people - true) and barely anyone bothers with that - or even looks at it even once. How would Discord make it any more accessible? Why would people feel the incentive to use this as opposed to IRC (With IRC people at least have a clue about it all, Discord sounds very foreign I guess, especially with features like TeamSpeak).
I think any attempt will just result in what #eunl is now. A place where some oldies are idling all day and some 'random' guys 'bullshit' all-day (which I honestly don't find a problem, #eunl is one of the most lively IRC channels these days although completely unrelated to eRep in-game nowadays).

As for Congress Members feeling useless. I guess that's true to some extent. Not many people like the whole meta-game on the forums (although it is needed to an extent and fun for some to involve deeply in politics like that) and the in-game political system is dead. De facto Congress Members have just as much power as they have before and can still force literally anything they would like on the forums.
Perhaps it would be an idea to tie in the meta-game more to in-game. That means having f.e. in-game voting (article or PM) and PM-groups. At the very least some clue that something is happening in which Congress Members DO have power.
No, the forum is just a tool bad implemented by abusive people like odan, also there's never good discussions, there's only discussion on circles without any real conclusion
