eAustralia Forum Announcement

Day 900, 01:08 Published in Australia Australia by The iTechnology Corporation

Hi eAustralia, Brenflakes here with an update on the forum situation.

Okay so the first issue. Last nite around 8pm, i took the forums down to do an upgrade to the forum software. Before doing this, i took an entire backup of the forum and the database (2 backups of the database). The upgrade did work, but it wiped out all of our custom mods, such as the api mod. I restored the entire forum to the backup, and went to restore the database, when i hit a tiny little problem. The first backup file i took was incomplete, and the second was corrupt, meaning we lost all forum data.

Now while that sounds bad (well it is horrific, i felt ill when i realised we had lost everything), Xavier Griffith go in touch with our fantastic webhosts, and they have restored a backup from the 3rd of may, meaning we have only lost the last few days worth of posts, new members, medals etc.

Secondly, while we were dealing with the above issues, it appears the DNS details of the eAustralia website were changed. We are not sure of the cause of this, as the domain name was not due to expire.

In any case, the webhost has fixed the issue and some people are reporting normal access already, for those that are still getting the placeholder site, your ISP has not updated their DNS records yet and it should happen in the next 24-48 hours. In the mean time, i do have a workaround which will work temporarily.

This workaround isnt hard, but I will not support or help people set this up. This guide is provided as-is, and is used at your own risk.

1. Open an explorer window, and find the folder C😕Windows\System32\drivers\etc and open the file called "hosts" in notepad .
2. Add "72.52.142.23 community.auserepublik.com" (without quotes) on a new line at the bottom, then save and close the file
3. open a command prompt (if you have a run box in your start menu, just type cmd and press enter) and type in "ipconfig /flushdns" (without quotes). press enter. You can close the command prompt

Now you should have access! If you do this, make sure to undo it in a few days time.

My apologies for the problems, if something was done to your account after may the 3rd, it will need to be redone. Simply open a help ticket, and i'll fix it up asap. As for prevention of this happening again, im looking at setting up an automated backup system, so the entire forum is backed up daily.
