East Asia in chaos as EDEN/USA forces liberate Western Australia

SUMMARY

Because of the serious geopolitical ramifications of what happened earlier this morning, I am writing a special edition of D.I.R for Australia. This morning at 3:15 AM EST, the Allied powers defeated Indonesia in the Western Australia Resistance War. The action has now been followed up with MPP proposals being introduced by Canada, the USA, Spain and Romania.

AUSTRALIA

Because no major Hungarian resistance emerged in the Alaska battle, the Allied militaries did not participate in the final day of action. For Indonesia’s part, they had assumed the Resistance Wars to be distractions, but in order to play it safe they built up the wall in Karnataka, a High Iron region. Noticing the wall in Western Australia was low, the Allied Militaries immediately received an emergency deployment order, and were sent to Indonesia to fight in the Western Australia Resistance War. This battle in particular showed off the new found organization and dedication of the USA, as soldiers who fought in the final moments of the battle after server reset (like myself) had to be up at 3 AM Eastern Time. For Indonesia’s part, they attempted to rally a defense in Western Australia but were caught off guard by the EDEN/US maneuver. PEACE simply did not expect the Allies would be able to move so many troops so quickly and have them ready for battle, considering this was happening right after the Alaska fight. EDEN tanking commenced 10 minutes after Server reset, with the EMC and the US Marine Corps unleashing a furious barrage. All other military forces of the USA and EDEN berserked in the closing minutes, driving the wall -32,000 points into the underground as overtime was forced.

Western Australia was occupied by Indonesia 18 months ago and has since been one of Indonesia’s prized overseas possessions. The region is high in Diamonds, Grain, and possesses every other resource at the Medium level. As consequence, it was thick in Indonesian manufacturing and land working economic activity. This is also the reason why the Indonesians have been reluctant to return the region to Australia, because of the huge investment of economic resources in the region. For its part, Australia followed a path of extreme passiveness in regaining its territory. Peaceful negotiations saw the country returned to the map and given back most of its territory from Indonesian occupation. With regards to the Western Australia situation, the Australian Government stuck with the negotiation method. When Cottus Arci proposed “Operation Two Fold Bay” about a month ago (which came in conjunction with a US MPP offer), the Australian Government rejected the proposal. Reading through the media at the time, many of the same arguments were brought up against taking back Western Australia. Many feared Indonesia would retaliate against Australia and reoccupy the country. Others claimed Australia did not possess the capability to manage Western Australia anyhow, and because of that should not risk destabilizing relations with Indonesia and PEACE.

Under normal circumstances, that would have been the end of it. But these are not normal times. Indonesia is a principle power of PEACE GC, and at one point occupied a large swath of US Territory on top of its own Asian holdings. The Indonesian invasion of North America put the country squarely in the cross hairs of a very angry USA. From a military stand point, Western Australia represented a bit more then “just another Indonesian Colony”. The region was an economic backbone for Indonesia and was providing the country with a significant quantity of its tax revenue and resources. With Western Siberia returned to Russia, the importance of Western Australia to Indonesia only grew. At this point, the Allies have a stated goal of liquidating PEACE GC’s global holdings, and Western Australia was one of the crown jewels in the Alliances catalogue of overseas possessions. Wrap that in the fact that it has been occupied for 18 months and Indonesia broke its stated promise to return the region to Australia, and the Allied course of action becomes very clear; Indonesia was going to lose Western Australia.

The Political fall out has been immediate. It has been said that EDEN and the USA did in 10 minutes what 10 months of negotiations failed to do. Apparently, the Australian Government agrees. The Australian Congress is busy approving the MPP requests from the USA and other EDEN countries, effectively endorsing and permanently sealing the liberation of Western Australia. The move also effectively moves Australia into the EDEN camp, through a mixture of gratitude and strategic necessity. Returning Western Australia to Indonesia is something that would have been inconceivable for any nations Government, because it would endorse the occupation of home territory by a foreign power. But by doing this, Australia risked war with Indonesia. By entering EDEN, Australia can assert its independence without fear of Indonesian invasion. For the Sol Alliance however, the events of this morning are anything but joyous. Most members of Sol are occupied to some degree or another by Indonesia and Iran. As consequence, the Alliance relies heavily on the good graces of these two countries, and by extension, PEACE GC. Australia asserting its independence and entering the EDEN camp has the potential to trigger an East Asian war, should Indonesia decide to attack; regardless of the MPP’s signed. So long as Australia remains a member state in Sol, contractual obligations in the Alliance treaty could drag the other East Asian nations into the conflict. For an Alliance that prides itself on its neutrality, the possibility of war with PEACE no matter how remote is simply too great a risk. While it is unlikely Indonesia will try to force the issue now that Australia is developing a battery of MPP’s with leading EDEN powers, it is also unlikely Sol will be willing to take the chance on Indonesia’s good sense.

FINAL ANALYSIS

The Liberation of Western Australia is permanent. With the signing of MPP treaties, Australia has set up an effective defense against any effort by Indonesia to retake the territory. Statements by the Australian PM further indicate the country intends to join EDEN and make official its new global stance. This action means Australia will be picking a side in World War 3 and will now be a direct participant. In a way, this is great news because it means Australia will be a more interesting place to live and by default may now be able to convince more citizens to join eRepublik. For Indonesia, the defeat will be an economic body blow and will only accelerate the nations decay. Many believe Indonesia to be a shadow of what it once was and the lack luster defense of Western Australia merely underscored that assessment. The victory also showed in full display the logistical and tactical organization of the Allied military, which over the past few weeks has consistently outmaneuvered and overpowered PEACE GC. This is a potent fighting force that Australia can gain great benefit from should they choose to join it.
