A vote has taken place on the UNL forums (http://www.enetherlands.nl/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=4798) with the result being merge with Belgium. Dutch invasion looks imminent, hope for peace, but prepare for war.

The last few days I have written some contrversial articles, the disturbing part of the response I got was the accusations that because I opposed the BfB's policies I must be with the PTO'rs, or have made a deal with them or something to that extent. This was disturbing enough but then today Manong declared his candidacy for president this was Olv007's response. Apparently for the massively popular party president who would have been a universal candidate, supported by BfB, Res Belgica and most likely even some of the PTO'rs to challenhttp://www.erepublik.com/en/article/letter-from-the-president-en--1230561/1/20ge Olv007 was a "stab in the back." Just hours latter Manong was forced to leave the game for RL reasons, cut down in his prime. I was going to write an article deifying Manong as some sort of patron saint of questioning the government martyred in his prime, but Olv007's reaction is just too disgusting.
ANYONE EXCEPT OLV007 FOR PRESIDENT!
seriously I have lost my respect for him.

What an interesting poll. I wonder why no one ever mentioned it before.
I think there has been a misunderstanding about the poll. People who voted for the first option want a merge with Belgium as soon as possible, but I doubt that they want to take Belgium with force.
About Manong : Seriosly, he should warn his party before running for CP. I would be pissed off too if I was Olv007.

Are you just pretending not to be aware that Netherlands and Belgium had used to be peacefully merged, agreed upon by both sides? It makes perfect sense for the eUNL to have a poll to ask its citizens whether or not to continue to recognize the merger, now that Belgium is independent.
Since fews months we fight to make relive a country. Nothing has to break our first objective. Make of Belgium a free and neutral country. It is indispensable that we are united in front of it.
But we shouldn't ignore that maybe a lot of Belgians at this moment would agree with such a merge with the Dutch, just as it was not so long ago?
at start of the game, i wanted to live in Wallonia, my region of origin. But Belgium had merged with the UNL.
I used to live in eFrance, because it was a french speaking country. Now the problem is : why having let a lot of people work in order to resurrect a country and then trying to destroy all the efforts made until now.
UNL IS PHOENIX that is not neutral!also the key word there is free, if we're invaded we aren't free

Seriously, your articles are more and more looking like jokes.
If you don't know what you are talking about, then don't.
They won't come by force. They don't have the acorns (ironic, as they seem to have quite a few of those...).
If they do they will be resisted and they will not win.
If they do they be RWed and they will not win.
In this the internal split between EDEN/PHX/Belgians works in our favor. Anyone who attacks us looks like a dick so everyone will want to help us. eNL, in spite of historic lapses in sense and intelligence, know this and I think it is what will ultimately stop them from attacking in the first place.
But also? Forum hijinks.
Olv: I hope your right, but what I do know is that with 3 1/2 hours left the merge with Belgium option is still in first place with open a dialog in second, you, the president of Belgium have yet to make a statement beyond "LOL"
You'll just look for any opportunity to sling dirt.
EDEN won't rest until they have drummed up some excuse to take over Belgium.

because it is clear on the forum that there is support in the UNL for an invasion if you think I am wrong tell me WHY I am wrong not just that I am wrong.
Ragoth, the Prime Minister just wants to know what the people of the eUNL (Belgians and Dutch) wants, that's all. This is a poll, not a vote.
Normal to speak about it, but I think that it is not a danger for the moment.

The existence of the poll and that forced merger seems to be the popular choice in the Netherlands should have been disclosed by Belgian Government officials who were aware of it.
That they chose to keep it secret raises too many questions about their motives.
The referendum was just to see if the dutch want an merger again, or that both countries should be independent. A Hostile merger will never work.
I think this poll isn't enough reason to speak of an invasion threat yet. And it is perfectly normal to want a "breakaway" nation to rejoin the union again (as many RL examples have shown). But at this point a public reaction with clear statements that we as a nation prefer to stay independent (and neutral) are necessary from our Country President, and we should try to get as many other eNations as possible to recognize our independence (not only EDEN countries!) - a job for our MoFA. The eNl should then learn to live with our sovereignity.

@aldous, when the eNetherlands and eBelgium first merged, there was always the option for eBelgium to get independent again. If the eBelgians want to stay independent, fine with me. But as long there isn't a clear statement what the eBelgians want, a possible friendly merger will still be discussed.

Deviltje, I perfectly understand all that, but living in eBelgium and supporting our independence, I can only speak in function of our national interests (I haven't seen a pro-eUNl party in eBelgium yet, and I personally think that most eBelgians and RL Belgians here, if this matters at all, want to stay independent, but I can imagine that some don't but keep quiet to prevent distabilization).
It's nice that you guys have finally decided what your policy will be towards us, now it's the turn of our people and our officials 😉
Rod, it's a public poll. And they talked openly about it.
They don't talk about a forced merger, and there will be none.
So please stop making up stories. It's start to be boring you always try to blacking the people/countries/alliances that you don't like.
I think Rod is pointing at you and other eBelgians who visit the eUNl forum regularly, but didn't notify the general eBelgian public of the poll.

@Aldous: It is good to talk about this poll of the eUNL. They combined a friendly merge with an unfriendly merge in option 1 (that got about 38% if I remember correctly, the poll is now closed for non eUNL citizens like me). So at least that is no majority even if all of those who favoured that option would favour the unfriendly merge (occupation).
I do believe the one that use the word "secret" just want to use things for propaganda. It was no secret. Secret are the forums where foreign nations make their plans how to get their soldiers elected in Belgium. We do not need that protection, nor do we like that.

There's some misinterpreting of the poll. First, it's the forum of eUNL, so it's not just a Dutch invasion, but aswell a Belgian invasion. I hope I don't have to remind you of eRep-history. Somehow, it's even positive as it shows there's still much support for Belgium and its inhabitants in the eUNL. Perhaps there are even more RL Belgians in the eUNL than in eBelgium!
maybe shenken, but they make a choice, to stay there. Now Belgium is a country and they must make diplomacy before all.
I agree that eUNL doesn't have the right to decide for belgium but they still have a lot more legitimity to do it than USA 🙂

You have read all the comments on the poll NO ONE was in favour of an hostile merge. A friendly merger ok. So Niemand, if you give information, tell everything not just the things to put the UNL in a black light.
