Alright, with 25 new subscriptions, we can move forward with a small more into the fold. As presidential election rears it ugly head, I thought I'd take you into the fascinating world that is Hitoshi Makoto's amateur reviewing. Today, we will look at a Yuri not too well known, but still endures as an erotic display of what can be only be cause for alarm by ignorant interest groups as a reason to investigate all-girls schools. I am, of course, starting with one of the hottest of theYuri: Shoujo Sect. The series was penned/drawn by Kurogane Kenn, who went on to do other unimportant work. Still a shame, as he has good talents...anyway, let's get moving.

Characters Score: 10/10

The main characters of Shoujo Sect are Momoko Naitou and Shinobu "Hunter" Handa; both aged 16. They are students, along with the B-Cast at the all-girls school in which the Yuri is based. There are also two recurring characters, Shinobu's servants Maya and Kirin, who make regular appearances. There are also a multitude of background characters who are insignificant in the manga, but have some weight in the anime. All the characters, as you would hope in any erotic fiction, have great chemistry; especially the leads. The leads, but not he backgrounders, are three-dimensional, which is again quite surprising for erotic fiction.

Being an old school guy as I am, I will hereafter only refer to the manga.

Plot Score: 3/10

Plot should really be put in quotation marks. Now, the original intent was to follow the leads into their rebudding romance after being separated as children. Now, I am extremely glad that they didn't go deep into the childhood romance, as it would likely have taken on this creepy feel. Which is something I'm sure you can agree is not something that anybody wants. However, the plot was NEVER explored. It just seems to drop off into an episodic sex-fest, where each chapter is at least ensure to be soaking with sex.The plot of Shoujo-Sect simply fails in any attempt it may have had to a plot, which is a shame.

Art Score: 8.5/10

Shoujo Sect is beautifully drawn, a kind reminder that Yuri is as much an artform as it is erotica. One small, but glaring detail for those familiar with anatomy: the nipples, I'm sorry to say, look absolutely fake. The whole breast, it seems, is also over-indulged. Each looking engorged. Now, for the perverse who enjoy big breasts...this is great. However, for those of us who aren't into massive breasts, it can get a tad overbearing. Otherwise, the drawing is expert and should still be commended.

Execution Score: 8/10

As I said before, the plot is shaky and is episodic. However, the execution of EACH chapter is flawless. Each sex scene is steamy, the characters passionate (if not being held against their will, at least), and the actions at least semi-accurate. I will remark that it is likely that Ken did extensive research with a bit of a tongue-in-cheek nuance. Nevertheless, it has a few flaws. Some of the sex scenes are a bit trite, and the formatting becomes repetitive (it doesn't take a genius at patterns to realsie all the sex scenes occure midway through the chapter).

Length Score: 4/10

My major complaint with Shoujo Sect is its length. Too long? On the contrary! Only 2 manga volumes were ever published. Even worse, the plot was never fully developed, and neither were the characters. The manga should have had more volumes, and the original anime series should have at least been finished. This is Shoujo Sect's biggest failure: incompletion.

FINAL SCORE
7/10

It has its strength, it had its weaknesses. If you, like me, are interested more in the Shoujo-Ai aspect of Yuri; this likely won't appeal to you too much. However, if you enjoy the pornographic element of Yuri, then this is a perfect medium for you to play out your fantasies within. All in all, this Yuri earns my stamp of approval. Good work on the parts of all those involved, except perhaps the storyboard manager(s).
