Division of congress members
Dear citizens,
In one of the last Insider articles we presented the improvements regarding the congressional elections. Most of the citizens asked us how the members of congress will be divided per region, and in this article we'll explain the solution to this challenge.
Number of congress seats in a country or region
The total number of congress members representing a region will be a minimum of one and a maximum of 10, depending on the number of regions in each country.
The normal number of congress members will be 40. The full division of congress seats depending on the number of regions can be found here.
Wild cards
Besides the candidates that have received a congress seat (the ones above the green line), the remaining candidates with the highest number of votes from all regions gain a wild card and become congress members as well (see scheme). See how the number of wild cards are distributed per country depending on the number of regions .
These improvements will bring more dynamism and interaction to the congressional elections for the citizens in the New World. As always we're waiting for your feedback.

the more votes a party gets the more seats in congress it has and then the party president decides who gets the seats. or that can be decided by the party elections.

I open this article believing you could considere the situation of regional parties... but you insist in giving political participation ONLY to the NATIONAL top5 parties.
My own is 6th in national, but the FIRST party in our province... than YOU for leting us OUT of this electoral process...
its a SHAME again. we are the most representative party in our province but we CAN NOT have our candidates... here is something wrong.
is spain is worst... they have MORE THAN 20 parties, some of then with more militants than the First one in argentina...
if you dont want a unlimited number of parties in election process at leat change the top5 to top8 or top10.

It discriminates against new parties ever being able to crack into an established top 5 because a LOT of people can't see past that.
Admins, I've got a couple doubts..
1)In regions with more than one congressmen elected (countries with less than 20 regions), the voters have one or more than one votes?
2)How many candidates can a party choose for one region?

I like administrative positions (judges, mayors, etc.) and the possibility that parties could develop political alliances. Thanks for that.
But still going on with votes for candidates instead of first for the political parties (and later for candidates) I think is not good. Than making a regional system, not taking into account how much people live in a region, that will worsen the situation. Look in Romania, big diiferences in the amount of people living insidev a region. You really think it is a good solution that 10 people from Zaporozhia, a remote Romanian region, will get 1 congressman (if there will be a candidate from the 5 biggest parties, what else?) and that 1545 people in the capital get also one congresman? OK there will be 7 wildcards. That will be if all wildcards will be for the capital region 8 people will be elected from there.
I do not think this will be wise.

Thank you administrators for everything you have done for the game after V1 was published, this game is becoming better by day. The voting changed a little, that is good but you shouldn't ignore the players and if you want it to be easier for the voter, just get 3 lines with the candidates on it and when they have chosen the one they wan't they click send.
But this is good update throughout but I think it needs that what everyone is trying to say, more political parties involved, it will change a lot of your code to be able to add like 10 biggest partys, but it will give us a change to play with more choices on the partys, and it makes it so that we are forced to do decisions with a lot of people, not just own party who wins all the time. It will make new twist to this.
And you should take that counting on regions that if other has 10 citizens and the other 1000, The on with 1000 should get 9/1 congressmen. Make it so that in every region there is someone who can get to congress.
I know that this is hard because I have made js, c++ etc coding, but I know that you know what you are doing and you can pull this of.

Judges? Are you saying there will actually be courts and legal system at some point in the future? Or will these positions just be for show, without any actual power?
I am still in disagreement with the voting system. It is completely different from Beta and not at all democratic. Did you not pay attention to how many parties had to ask for the voters to disperse their votes so some of the goon parties would not take over the government? This system is very easily abused. If you are going to go ahead with this, then at least make it difficult to take advantage of. Otherwise this game just becomes a race for abusing bugs and loop holes.

I think that the division of congressmen among the regions of a country should be population based, although the maximum should remain the same. That way the representation of the country is still based on its population spread. Perhaps by slightly increasing the number of congressmen it would be possible to allot more populated regions in areas with greater numbers of regions more than 1 congressman.

My comment about this system is that you obvious intentionally chose a quite complex system. It will be interesting to see how it works out, those who want to take a place in the congress might have to buy some Moving Tickets..

It only needs be as difficult as you make it. Marginalizing smaller parties for the sake of dumbing down the game is NOT the answer.
The inactive members in the old big parties then? A person who never logg in anymor will still be a politically power in this system I'm afraid.

This is better than what happened last time with Congressional seats. I agree with Misho, one only needs to look at Thailand's current situation and see how broken these political systems are becoming. (A party getting only 30% of the vote, yet getting 66% of the seats makes little sense).
This is ridiculous. Why should a tiny region get the same representation as a huge one?
Take Ireland for example, we have well over HALF our population in one region, and the other 5 are tiny by comparison.

Es una pena que insistan en permitir sólo las elecciones a los partidos del top5. Es una forma de destruir a las minorias, por mucho que digan que fomenta las alianzas entre partidos.
El juego se va recuperando muy poco a poco, pero todavia le queda bastante para alcanzar la diversidad que permitía la Beta.

Election or Bingo
You cannot vote for individuals in congress election, you have to vote for a party-list of candidates who are ranked. When the voter enter to vote he can see the list and know who he or she is voting for, this is as far as I know the only way to make it fair.
If you vote for individuals, one candidate can have all the votes and gets far to many, he for instance needed only 4 votes to be elected but he got 24, only one seat gained. Votes wasted that could be given to other candidates. And if you decide to vote for some one that you think not have enough votes to enter the congress, the candidates can end up with to few votes. For instance 5 candidates with 3 votes each, nobody enters because they needed at least 4, could have had 3 in but got none.
This should be an election not bingo. Wetter it is national or regional is not the main issue here, it is to be democratic and fair.

Can you delete that requeriment of 'top 5 countries'?, it's just, sorry for the word, stupid, and undemocratic, so the minories just don't have any voice, -,-,..., also, in the future, you should make able even to by elected as an independent, if you have your own ideas of how the country should be managed, but no party represent you, why you aren't able to get some weight to your view?..., it should be the same as letting no restriction on the number of parties, but even more democratic,
Please, don't try to make the vote simple, politics isn't a thing of just vote once a month, is the way to manage a entire nation..., give some power to every one, not just a vote.
Yeah, in each country there is just not many people, 2-3 thousands have the biggest ones..., why don't you try to implement direct democracy?, it's possible due to the 'small' amount of people playing.
Although, you should make able every country to choose is political system, from dictatorship to anarchism, and also coul be possible implement real civil wars and coupe d'etat... even sesecionism,
I gave you a lot of ideas, but i think that eR should vary more in the political thing, maybe all of these things should be implemented in sucessive updates, maybe create a new version each 3 or 6 months, improving some new things,

Bad idea. Small but active parties (e.g., immigrant minorities) can have no representation if only the Top 5 parties can contest the elections.
I am glad most players with arguements do not like this political system made by the admins. We need indeed a fair and simple one. Just vote for the parties and inside the party you vote for a person. Party gets the seats and dived that to the ones with the most vote in the party.
And please keep the voting secret, otherwise we all want to vote the last 10 minutes to see how a party can get the most congressmaen.

Doesn't feel very democratic. A system based on regions makes no sense when the regions doesn't actually matter.
The best thing would be to create a number of alternative democratic systems and then let the congress of the different countries choose the one they like...
@Admins: If I upgrade my company quality, will the resources I have disappear? I mean wood from housing company? Or just the finished products?

Let's make it a bit more complicated: allow congress to choose the election rules.

What is it about Democracy you don't understand.
If the congress do not reflect votes in a true manner, it is nothing but a parody.
When your version of "democracy" fails, people loose interest in that part of the game, and end up leaving the game as lack of trust-worthy government pull everything else down with it.
However, I like the possibility to form political alliances, if it means that f.ex. 3 small parties can join forces to enter the top 5 list and compete with a bigger party.
So let's assume that there is a region in a country. It has a small numbers of inhabitants (30). There are 5 parties represented. Each of them are in the top five. So guess how many people will stand for election? 5 out of 30 inhabitant. With the usual voting percentige 10 votes will be given. Lets see this is a country with a few regions. Who will get the other 3 seats?
This was just an example why it won't work. (yes you can move in order to get the seats - nice thing for a moving company)
The best sollution will be that people should vote for a party in the election. Before that the party shall nominate their congressman. (people should apply for being a congressman) And let all the party to participate.
And lastly please give the money back to all the accunts that has been affected by the bugs. I know that my around 300 HUF isn't much, but I changed my workplace for a low paying job, because I had spare money.

When you say judges and courts, do you mean if someone breaks a country's or Erep's rules, they can be tried and banned temporarily?
Prehaps it would be good if you also took the population of a region in to account.
If Congressmen are directly elected by regions, then you don't need a top-5 party rule anymore for Congress. You can just let people register as Congress candidates directly (probably a small gold fee, like the Party President elections - with that gold going to the region or nation's treasury), with each top-5 party allowed to put one name on the ballot for free. (which in nations with lots of regions means the winner will probably be from the top-5 parties, but in small countries, lots of "independents" could win seats). Letting the top 5 parties have free nominations makes sure that there will at least BE a vote, in some form.

When you are done working on the elections system, can you admins please look at the business modules?
We company managers had a somewhat working expenditure/income sheet in the beta. However quite some time has passed after V1 launch and we still haven't got anything similar as of yet.
Not for all, but for many managers this is a painful situation as they have to manually make a list of sales, raw material stock, product stock, market offers etc. to really know how much they're selling, consuming and producing.
I wrote an article about this issue, and I'll post a comment soon where I will detail my suggestion for a usable module-add-on.

Double post but here it comes, my suggestion for a simple system of monitoring company income and expenditures:
Monthly Income and Expenditures
Start the calculations on 1st of each month at 00:00 and reset the value to zero. Save the results of the last month and make them filterable through a selection module the same way you view election results, monthly results: current (last month, before that, etc)
Income
Product sales (including VAT)
Investments
Monetary market exchanges
Total income
Expenditures
Sales VAT portion
Collected profit
Monetary market exchanges
Salaries (without tax and income tax portion)
Product purchases
Total expenditures
Overall total = Income - Expenditures
Most important of this all is that please don't round the figures to two decimals for the calculations, only round the figures for the result list. At least in beta you rounded the salaries so that the worker didn't get the full salary and the company didn't pay the full tax, resulting in a real salary expense often 0.01 less than should be. This is not the only place where this problem existed.
I think 2 decimals is enough for these lists. You have plenty of float numbers working in calculations in V1, so continue to use those, but show them only when it matters for the viewer.
Please enable indepents and smaller parties a chance at getting into congress.
I am fine with a president only coming from 1 of the top five parties, but congress is different. The average joe (independent) can run in real life, members from smaller parties can run as well, so I don't see why it shouldn't be that way here.
This is a bit offtopic, but I hope the admins turn their attention to the economic system in the future. This current system simply does not work in the long run. You want people to create more companies thanks to the 10 workers per company limit, but the only way they can compete is by selling products cheaper than their competitors. This encourages minimum salaries. The production numbers are too high which means that one company makes all the sales in the region.
I would suggest almost complete redo of the system. Production numbers have to be lowered, and the consumers are only allowed to buy products in the province they are in. Companies cannot sell their products outside their province without using movement tickets. This would increase the sales of the moving ticket companies.
Also, with the current wellness system houses are not cost-effective. The industry makes no sales. I would suggest that houses increase the number of inventory slots you can have in order to make them more appealing to the consumer. This means that buying extra storage with 10 euros becomes redundant, but you have to make sacrifices in order to make the game better. Invent some other way to make cash.
Seems someone had already brought up the issue in my comment on the suggestions forum, and that it has been officially acknowledged that the company statistics are a priority.
Now, after that, to improve the economy. I am mostly along the same lines as Erwin above me. The only extra suggestion I have is that you might at some point consider making the marketplace work through player or organisation owned retail companies. So that the marketplace isn't just a competition of who has the lowest price, but more or less a competition of which shop to choose. A competition of PR and good selection of products and their prices.
Shops could purchase the products from manufacturing companies and citizens and organizations could buy only from these shops. The shops should be listed on the marketplace not in the order of their prices but maybe in order of their overall stock, and preferably in several columns instead of one, because one column only helps the best one, people pick the top one.
This would not only promote a more flexible market system, but also creates more interesting jobs available for players. I don't know how you would implement workers into a retail shop, but it could easily be a single player run company.
top five partyrule encourages a party monopoly. not fair. I agree with the comment by Paranox about the economy and the companies. Startup companies have a difficult time competing when other companies are selling off their stock for less money than what it costs me to make my stock. I have been hoping that the market will right itself and that these people will go bankrupt, but that is because I assume they are losing money by selling so low. Something needs to change....

Well, this happens in RL democracies. In Spain you may get something like 30 parties candidating to an election, and people manage to vote. Even the elderly and the handicapped can. So it seems that it's not as difficult as you say.
Moreover, this is a game about politics, most people here are supposed to like politics (or well, at least virtual politics); do you think players wouldn't be able to choose if they had a list of 20 parties instead of 5?
Your statement makes even less sense if you take into account that you have complicated the elections by introducing the concept of voting for individual congressmen. This is a much greater complication, because it's much more difficult to know the individual candidates to an election than the parties (which are more or less stable, and have a name and a declared ideology, and -let's hope- a party description page if you bring it back from beta).
If you say that you pay attention to our feedback, you should really pay attention to this one, because I haven't ever seen a single player in favour of the top-5-parties rule. Not even the first. In theory you say that you keep this rule to protect the players from an hypothetical "difficulty", but players don't want to be protected from that and unanimously declare that they want more parties concurring to elections. This doesn't make sense.

I am pretty sure the admins have some "grand plan" why they are making with this new political system in spite of all the resistance they are facing. We will see if this grand plan will really be grand, or just a flop. Infinitely better system would be to allow countries to choose their own method of choosing congressmen from at least three prefixed systems, but I doubt we will ever see this implemented.

Hehe. No, I think the trivia system is in place because the developers wanted to do something different from other games. Something that would make eRepublik stand out. Stubbornly they are defending the trivia system because from their point of view, it's a great idea. I agree that it would be in anyother game other than a game that tries to mirror the real world. It just doesn't fit the theme very well. However, I have grown to accept its existance. It's a long way from perfection, but at least now it's very much better than what it was in the opening days of V1.
And the admins keep holding my GOLD withou any reason!

Thailand has 5 regions. If we have 40 congressmen that means each region gets 8. I think some of our regions don't have any active players. How will that work?
Why not do it this way. Everyone votes for one party, not just top 5. After you vote for the party, you then vote for a candidate in the party.
