Dio is Irrelevant

Day 1,136, 12:29 Published in USA USA by Onishi

In this article I will explain to you why Dioism is irrelevant, and why you'll have a better time in this game if you simply forget about it. I am friends with Dioists, and I hope your faith hasn't blinded you so much that that friendship would be terminated after me stating my opinions. I have always been a Dioist. In fact, even lately, while I've been harbouring these opinions and feelings, I've made pro-Dioist remarks, including in my bid for Presidency a couple of weeks ago (but we all know how they went). That was when I thought it would be beneficial to be Dioist, but I realise today, after the consideration of a couple of days, that I no longer need be afraid of that.

We have seen the return of Dio Brando in recent days, and we have seen the futility of his actions. We have seen the damage the Exodus efforts have done to our community. We have seen the negative affects that those left behind did in our nation. Dioism was a good thing, but nothing good has come of it in a long time.

So go on, cast me out as a Dioist. Remove me from your friend list. Say I never knew what Dioism was, you will be proving my points. Every true Dioist knows what Dioism is. Or do they? Dioism was an eReligion of sorts, probably more accurately described as cult (trolling) behaviour, formed by Dio Brando, back in 2008. And while I came in at the tail end of it's height, it was still fun. I enjoyed it. That was the whole point.

What Dioism has become today is a combination of two things. Firstly, it is an excuse to spam irrelevant trite in favour of constructive and/or humourous posts. Suffice to say, it is an over-used meme. Secondly, it has become a reason to seperate us, and ignore anything intelligent that another has to say in a conversation, simply because they are Anti-Dioist, or even in another "sect" or "denomination" of Dioism. May I refer you at this point to a certain conversation between two prominent (one former) members of a particular political party that claims not to be political, back in early November.

It is with this in mind, and as a citizen of affluent stature and public influence (according to some), that I declare Dioism to be a dead religion, no longer of any relevance to our country. I will work to make sure that it will no longer be the official religion of our nation, and will in fact be outlawed. Anyone seen to be practising, preaching, or even thinking about Dioism will be declared treasonous. There will be no trial. However, back to why Dioism is dead and irrelevant.

Our need for Dioism is a symptom of our stagnation. Frankly, for me this is clear as day, and I don't understand how I haven't seen it sooner, or how the vast majority hasn't either. That said, when our entire nation has collected into one big nationalised opinion, it's not hard to understand why we've ignored the truth for so long. Because certain intelligent (I'm saying this with no note of sarcasm or derision) and influential members of our society post articles in our media and topics on our forums claiming to be the right way of playing, of thinking, we have now discovered the Right Way of Doing Things and Conducting Oneself. We all see the validity and the logic in their points. Anyone who intelligently speaks against the Opinion is either ignored, or just eventually leaves because of the futility of their arguments. Those who speak less intelligently are spammed and trolled, all in the name of America and Dioism. But this doesn't lead to anything new.

Dioism is an old joke. Why are we keeping it alive? As humans we feel like we need a constant. A constant isn't just something unchanging, hell we're unchanging enough as it is. It is also unwavering, and unfaltering in it's intensity. Dioism is something that put smiles on people's faces, almost to the same degree as waving American flags, hosting a barbecue on Independence Day, and shouting Hoorah!. But those days are gone. We shouldn't need an old joke to keep us going, and let's be honest, it's not keeping us going anymore. I'm not the only one lately to have spoken against this "religion" lately. Now that it's ugly side has revealed itself, people are sick of it. People don't want to see lines and lines of DIO DIO DIO anymore. People would prefer conversation, and fresh jokes.

Dioism itself is also one of the causes of our stagnation. By giving ourselves a pattern to fall into, by giving ourselves an artificial rulebook and code of conduct about how to behave as individuals, and as a nation, we have slipped ourselves very neatly into a rut. We didn't notice for a while, because we were going the same direction as that rut, but now that it's grown deeper and deeper, we have no choice but to follow it's path. I'm offering America, and by extension the eWorld, a fork in that road. Denounce Dioism, forget it ever happened, and try something new.

At the end of the day, we're all playing a game here. And we are only playing for one simple reason, to have fun. This game is to pass the time, and I don't see why we shouldn't have fun with it. We don't owe this game, or this "country", or even our past anything. Rulebooks are all very fine when driving on the road, or sailing a ship, but this game imposes enough rules on us as it is without imposing more ourselves. I am not endorsing game mechanics, in fact I am completely opposing that school of thought. We all saw how much fun last month was with the RP. Playing this game by game mechanics is the exact same as how an animal thinks and acts. Animals use their logic and their instincts to make the best decisions they can, to find food, to perpetuate their species. But it's constant work for them, and they don't make art or music, or appreciate the beauty of all the bad things in the world. Dioism filled that void for a long time. Now it is not so much that Dioism has become hollow, it has in fact become the void. It is now what needs to be avoided, and to be replaced by something much more gratifying.

This may seem contradictory to what I was saying earlier about having patterns to fall into. Surely any form or RP'ing or going against pure game mechanics is some kind of unnecessary exercise. I agree completely. But I am making the distinction between unnecessary and uninteresting. While we continue to do things for the sole reason that they are fun, rather than purposeful, we show that we are still human. Denounce your false god, and have fun again.
