Department of Commerce - Secretary of Commerce
Equality 7-2521
United States Country President Scrabman has just officially announced his new cabinet for this, his final term in office. It can be found at A Civil Society.
This month comes with some new additions. I am most excited about the addition of a Department of Commerce headed up by the Secretary of Commerce.
A couple words from those wikipedia articles to add some flavor:
"The United States Department of Commerce is the Cabinet department of the United States government concerned with promoting economic growth."
"The mission of the department is to 'promote job creation and improved living standards for all Americans by creating an infrastructure that promotes economic growth, technological competitiveness, and sustainable development.' Among its tasks are gathering economic and demographic data for business and government decision-making, issuing patents and trademarks, and helping to set industrial standards."
"The United States Secretary of Commerce is the head of the United States Department of Commerce concerned with business and industry; the Department states its mission to be 'to foster, promote, and develop the foreign and domestic commerce.' "
"The line of succession for the Secretary of Commerce is as follows:
Deputy Secretary of Commerce
General Counsel of the Department of Commerce
Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade
Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs
Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology
Under Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration
Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Commerce and Assistant Secretary of Commerce in charge of Administration
Assistant Secretary for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs"
As the first eRep player to be appointed to this new position in this new department, I am excited about the possibilities. While all of the Department of Commerce positions that exist in real life may not be necessary here, I will look to fill as many similar positions here as we can muster. So, if you are interested in Commerce, economics or business, either domestic, foreign, or both, if you are interested in taxes or trade or anything else that you think might fall under this purvey, just send me a message. We will need to fill up this office considerably in order to accomplish even a limited amount of what Congress, this President, and the American people want to see accomplished. So, don't hesitate to contact me. My initial mandate is only for one term, one month, and that time flies be before you know it.

I would like to request the Deputy Secretary of Commerce position.
If i can't get that I would like the NOAA one.
Congrats! I would like to help out by requesting the under secretary of commerce for technology. or the NOAA one if that's available...
Hello there from the wide plains of rural Montana.
To think that its possible to be assigned to any position is amazing, so theres one set goal to undertake.
Forget to mention something, but you can read it for yourselves in the Wiki link. If the following are ever established, they would fall under the purview of the DoC:
Operating units
Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS)
Economics and Statistics Administration (ESA)
Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)
Bureau of the Census
Economic Development Administration (EDA)
International Trade Administration (ITA)
Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
National Weather Service (NWS)
Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps (NOAA Corps)
National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)
Patent and Trademark Office (PTO)
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
See also
Federal Trade Commission
United States Commercial Service
United States Chamber of Commerce
Small Business Administration
So some of the DoC positions will be tasked with starting some of these offices. I'd like to, again, stress how important these fake positions are for this fake government in this fake world we have created. As long as we're living here in this fake world, we might as well dominate it, amirite? So, this is the first step towards Economic greatness. Existing structures such as Economic Council, Congressional Budget Committee, Congressional Budget Office and Secretary of Treasury still exist and have specific roles. We will continue to rely on the expertise of the Economic Council, which is really a seperate advisory branch directly advising the President. If the Department of Commerce asks for their assistance in a non-official way, they are in no way obligated to provide it.
Excellent appointment.
I'm sure you'll do whatever it takes to get us the iron we need.
Wonderful
Congrats Eq.

Gratz.
Congrats man.
bureaucracy sucks
@ Beea: Normally, I might be inclined to agree with you. But, that is only when Bureaucracy is an obstacle for action. In this case, nothing will ever be "forced" to flow through us, so we will never delay action or progress. Any work we do is purely incremental value for this nation, its businesses and its people.
Why the hell do you need a National Weather Service in eRep?
@ WahooBob, that one was more of a joke, really. If someone wants to have some fun with it in-game, that's cool.
The NOAA that runs the NWS could have applications much later in this game, though. For now, it would mostly be a "lulz" position.
For the lulz
