The Worker's Voice - Vote with your mind, not with your party support

As the CP elections come around again, I see the same thing. The big parties wheel out their candidates, and so do the small ones. But we normally know who’s won the election before the 5th. Normally you can tell by party support. Do you want to know why it’s so obvious? It’s because the people vote blindly in many cases. How many people can say they voted for a certain candidate because of their policies, or their personality?

It’s rather frustrating, because at times. Real skilled candidates miss out, because they haven’t got friends in TUP or New Era. It’s time the people realise. Shouldn't a candidate with better plans be better than a candidate backed by the big parties? Just because your a TUP/New Era/InsertPartyNameHere member, should you vote for their candidate?

The answer is no, it’s the people’s choice. If the party says ‘We want to support [Insert Candidate Here]’ it should be a sort of recommendation, an endorsement. But just because they tell you to support a candidate. Doesn't mean you should, if you truly believe the person your party is supporting is good due to their personality and their policies. Go ahead, but the people very rarely take these factors into account when voting.

The people should make an educated choice, read the manifestos. Look into their policies and into them. Because voting blindly is as bad as not voting at all. Parties seem to forget. It’s the people who decide, when I decide support for the CP elections, I try and make sure I say that just because we support them as a party, doesn't mean you have to support or vote for them. They could vote for anyone, and they should. If they decide to vote for another candidate. That’s fine, because the people are making an informed decision. They aren't just following party support or 'the crowd'

Remember, stay informed. Staying informed and making educated choices is the way forward, don’t vote blindly. Please, if your going to vote on the 5th. Vote for who you truly believe is the right person for the job. Also, please keep in mind, there are other candidates than the ones the big parties support.

We can try....

Small parties can and will always try. I believe this truly proves our determination, and the fact that we can try and make it. Don't let the big parties forget us small ones down here. Below the top 2 and below the top 5.
