Day 781: Germany and Bulgaria fall to EDEN

Polish and Spanish troops meet on the Saarland/Alsace border

The Phoenix Alliance has suffered a double wipe to their Alliance today. Bulgaria’s final region and capital of Sofia fell to advancing Romanian forces earlier in the day. The big news however, was not Bulgaria due to the fact that some of the country is still controlled by Serbia and could be returned. The major focus on day 781 was the desperate last stand of Germany in their bastion of Saarland. Germany has been fighting Poland since war broke out between Phoenix and EDEN several weeks ago. This front of the war was a bigger damage sink for EDEN then the Croatian/Slovenia conflict ever was. Phoenix knew this too, which is why they have tried for the most part to keep Germany alive in the face of Polish attacks. Unfortunately for Germany, Hungary often got side tracked doing other things, like invading Romania or defending Heilongjiang from the United States. During these periods of distraction, the Poles were able to steadily advance against the Germans until they were at last besieged by Spanish and Polish troops in a single region.

The deathblow for Germany came at 18:30, when EDEN forces tanked a 700k+ wall down to -40k in 15 minutes despite intense Phoenix resistance. The Phoenix defeat in Saarland makes Germany the third Phoenix country to be conquered by EDEN, and all but assures the Alliance control of Western Europe. The remaining Phoenix enclaves in Western Europe, the United Kingdom and the United Netherlands are now surrounded. The defeat of Germany is very ominous for Phoenix for one simple reason. It was done without any MPP’s activated on the Polish side. We have to remember that PEACE wiped Canada and Spain with the use of a full battery of MPP’s. EDEN has now successfully destroyed two Phoenix countries without any activated MPP’s at all. This spells bad news for the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. It also could spell trouble for Serbia’s coveted Land bridge should Greece and Romania decide to move in and put a similar death blow on Turkey and Iran.

In France, the French managed to buy themselves some time by resistance warring one of their territories back from Poland before Spain had a chance to finish them off in Corsica. This effort is stop gap at best, as Spain will just wipe the new Province once they have finished up Corsica. The Region swapping tactic will prevent France from truly being able to take advantage of its freed territory. The lack of a Q5 hospital in any French territory will also make the likelihood of France going 1 v 1 against Poland remote. At best, France has bought themselves an extra day, though it remains to be seen if this will delay whatever plans EDEN might have for the United Kingdom. The UK and the UNL are now surrounded thanks to collapse of Germany, and if EDEN is truly serious about its intentions we can expect an invasion of the British Islands to commence soon. If this occurs, expect the eRepublik version of shock and awe. EDEN will hit almost every British region at the same time. The entire country could conceivably be occupied in the space of 3 days.
