Day 775: Hungary holds Heilongjiang

Day 775, 08:55 Published in USA Australia by Aeros
SUMMARY

Victories for Phoenix/Entente: Hungary prevented a US conquest of Heilongjiang, Poland retreated from Lower Saxony, Spain declined to press its attacks on France and Italy, and Turkey captured Tel Aviv, Israel. Victories for EDEN/Sol: Hungary retreated from Romania, erasing all gains that were made over the past several days. Greece held Peloponnese and was able to regain initiative against Turkey. Romania captured Varna, Bulgaria and is now advancing on Vidin. Malaysia successfully defended Peninsular Malaysia and is now attacking Sarawak.

EUROPEAN THEATER

Central European Front

Hungary realized the folly of its invasion of Romania when the United States attacked Heilongjiang. The American strike halted Hungary’s initiative and would have prevented them from pursuing their Romanian invasion even if they had won their latest sets of battles. Even worse, many Hungarian citizens were continuing to direct their efforts towards attacking Romania, rather than defending against the American attack in Asia. The Hungarian President apparently decided that the risk of losing Heilongjiang in order to continue the Romanian invasion was too great. Hungary quit the field the Romania, retreating all the territories they had invested so much effort and Gold into capturing and permitting the Romanians to launch their own counter attack into Bulgaria. Bulgaria at this point is occupied by Romania, Serbia and Pakistan, with only two provinces (Vidin and Sofia) remaining. While Phoenix could add more territory to Bulgaria by divesting itself of the Pakistani and Serbian regions, their plan is most likely to let Romania wipe out the country and then resistance war their territories back. If Romania captures Sofia, the war with Bulgaria will be closed and Romania’s activated MPP’s will cease to exist. However, Bulgaria’s Alliances will not disappear. At this point, Serbia and Pakistan will divest themselves of their Bulgarian territory and if Romania wants to continue the invasion of Bulgaria, they will have to re-declare war and go solo against the Phoenix MPP’s once again. A much better EDEN strategy would be for Romania to hit the Serbian regions proper and Resistance war the Pakistani region back to Bulgaria before wiping out Bulgaria in Sofia.

In Germany, the United Netherlands has declared war on Poland in an abortive effort to halt the Polish offensive. Seeing the danger of becoming initiative locked, Poland resistance warred back Lower Saxony in order to create a bottleneck in Westphalia. The Netherlands launched their attack anyhow, but the Poles are fending them off easily. Germany will also not be able to capitalize on the UNL initiative block because the Czech Republic has launched its own invasion of Bavaria. This spells dire news for both the Netherlands and Germany, as Poland is almost certain to resume its offensive against both countries either today or tomorrow.

Western European Front

This Front has remained mostly quiet while Spain was backing up Allied efforts in Heilongjiang. With the fight against Hungary in Asia presently stalled, Spain will most likely move to resume its offensive against France and Italy. One other point of note is the Swiss declaration of war against Spain in conjunction with a Polish MPP. This is done to gain free wars via Chain reaction, so some region swaps in this area may be pending in the future.

Aegean Front

Turkey did not resume its attacks against the Greeks today, permitting the Greeks to launch a counterattack against occupied Crete. I am not sure why Turkey declined to continue their attacks. I have looked, but see no evidence of any blocking battles. I suppose the Turkish President slept in. Regardless, this works very well in EDEN’s favor, as Greece can now prevent further Turkish efforts against itself and Israel, while Bulgaria cannot do anything to halt an offensive in the Aegean due to it being invaded by Romania.

ASIAN THEATER

Noticing the error in the Bulgarian blocking attack against Romania, the United States accelerated its plans and struck Heilongjiang to deny Hungary initiative while attempting to capitalize on the nations exhaustion from the Battle of Transilvania. Hungary responded with an Epic tank clash that saw its damage in the final moments of the China front match the amount of damage done by the country during the entire length of the battle on the American front. Heilongjiang itself was an amalgamation of two different battles. The American battle was primarily US citizens against Hungarian citizens and Phoenix tanks. The China battle was EDEN Tanks vs. Phoenix Tanks. Alas, Hungary has the most two-clicking Field Marshals in eRepublik and America’s horde of two-click Captains simply could not keep up. Hungary also was able to draw deep into the pockets of Phoenix’s Gold supply (Russia had 20,000 Gold when the war started as an example) and tank all out in China. No doubt many of the Companies in Heilongjiang also helped fund the battle as well. Fortunately for the US however, defeat does not mean the end of the Asian campaign by a long shot. After all, Hungary has to win Heilongjiang every time. America only has to win once. It took the United States two cracks at Manitoba before it was finally taken on the third attempt. California like wise took two attempts as well. In terms of Gold and Tanking, Phoenix has the advantage. But if America keeps attacking Heilongjiang in the manner they have, Hungary will eventually run out of Gold and will be unable to continue its tanking defense. It will be at that moment Heilongjiang falls to the United States.

FINAL ANALYSIS

EDEN now stands poised to bring a serious hammer down on Phoenix. While the Battle of Heilongjiang was a Phoenix victory, it may prove to by a Pyrrhic Victory. Phoenix has lost initiative on every single front of the War, and EDEN will be certain to capitalize on this. Romania will not want to risk any further invasions of their territory by Hungary and Bulgaria, and may very well be poised to invade Hungary’s home regions, if only to block initiative. This operation can be done in conjunction with Croatia who also possesses activated MPP’s against Hungary. Serbia could be in a position to cause problems for this option, but that could be mitigated if Romania and Croatia decide to tag team Serbia as well. Between the two countries, Serbia and Hungary can be completely denied initiative for the duration of the war, so long as Croatia and Romania keep attacking. With Hungary being pressed in on all Fronts, Germany and France will be even more left out in the cold. Poland will almost certainly move to strike decisively against Germany over the next 48 hours and attempt to wipe out the country. Should Germany fall, the United Netherlands will be sure to soon join the Germans. The same scenario is likely to be played out in France as well, as Spain will be keen to wrap up this front and close the French MPP’s.
