Day 1,888 : Boot Camp

Day 1,888, 23:16 Published in Belgium Belgium by RooieLente
As I walked past the line of new recruits, I could not help but notice the eagerness in their eyes. Eager to get into battle, eager to take up arms. Yet, in battle, there is no glory…and there is no eagerness when bullets fly around you, while you try pushing back the intestines of your best buddy back into his abdomen, hoping the medic will make it in time. Yet, here they stand…and soon, they will fight in our name, for our flag. All I could do was prepare them the best I could.

“Right…if you have the need to address me, you will do so by my rank. If you have the need to refer to me when I’m not around, you will use the name ‘Camouflage’. Now, before we start…was there anyone who thinks I’m just a pretty face in a battlesuit ? He can step forward now then…

Noone ?

Good…seems they send us an intelligent bunch this time…

This is the Belgian Training Academy. This is where we will learn you how to be a soldier. This is were you learn the basics, the basics that keep you from being shot or worse.

Training.
First…you train. Each and every day, I want you to train. Training makes you a stronger soldier and stronger soldiers cause more damage in a fight. The more damage you cause, the sooner an enemy goes down. The more damage you contribute to a fight, the better for our side. You don’t win a battle without doing damage. So you train…no matter what. Only by doing so, you get to be a Supersoldier. And Supersoldiers get rewarded…

Weapons.
In the Belgian Training Academy, we will train you in a wide range of modern weaponry. The better your weapon, the more damage you do. Yet, weapons cost money. So I don’t care with what you fight…even if you fight barehanded, it is still better than not fighting at all.

Food.
Fighting will cost you energy. You will get hungry and you will be needing food. Now, we also supply these standard Energy Bars ad you will be tempted to eat them. Don’t! Save them for when it’s most needed. Save them for times we fight on our own soil.

Orders.
A good soldier follows orders. Those who do, will be rewarded with energy bars and bazooka parts. There is a whole world of war out there and you can’t fight all battles. Pick your battles wisely and pick those that reward you. After all, supplies are scarce.

Scavenging.
A good soldier knows where to find food and weapons. You can ask you daily pack from the Belgian Government through the forums. You can get supplies from the Military. But also, keep your eyes and ears open. Often, food and weapons can be earned by shouting a link, voting an article, subscribing a newspaper… I don’t care if they ask you to dance the fandango…more food and more weapons means more battles.

Inform.
A good soldier is an informed solder. If you have questions, you ask them. You can ask me, you can ask your regiment captain, you can ask the populace on the forum. We have all made mistakes, so you don’t have to make them anymore."

I walked past the line again, inspecting uniforms and boots. Will they be ready ? Probably not, but at least now they had a fighting chance.

‘That will be all….fall out!”
