Day 1,874: Operation Flintlock

Day 1,874, 09:16 Published in Belgium Belgium by RooieLente

Tierra del Fuego....Patagonia. This war was turning ugly. For days now, we had pushed the Argentinian forces deeper and deeper inward and now we had reached the point of no return.

With their backs against the wall, almost literally, we met the fiercest resistance so far.

This landscape was forbidding. Rocks....a salt lake. A single bush. Nothing more, for miles and miles. Our progress was slow, as landmines and other booby traps prevented our tanks from simply rolling in.

I saluted the recon soldier as he approached me. "Situation ?"

"The Argentinians have taken a defensive position a few miles up, Capt'n.
Where the mountain pass starts. Foxholes, mortars, roadblocks...the whole shebang."

Captain...Captain First Star....the early successes in this campaign had indeed earned me a promotion or two. It now all seemed to have halted.

I nodded. 'Very well, private, stand down.'
I gestured for the radio engineer and told him to get me Colonel BeaverJuice on the air. We needed air support, or these few square miles of territory would be paid for in blood. The blood of our men. A price I wasn't willing to pay at this point.

"We dig in, men! I want cover and foxholes, crescent moon shape, hugging against the mountain here. This one's for the Wings...we'll clean up after them"
