Took the boy to breakfast..

Well, it appears to be CP Campaign season again already. Time to post a Presidential article and make the rounds of Party leaders. I understand that last month I was fresh meat and fresh hope, but this time I have a record to promote (and defend).

First couple days I was besieged by lobbyists over an SCI seat. I sought wise counsel, then handled it as I saw fit-– not necessarily to everyone’s satisfaction, but I did bring the matter to an acceptable resolution. Bitched about being lobbied, now three weeks later I’m out lobbying. Huh.

Helped promote Speaker Bob to CBO and approved his appointment to SCI, and named him Governor.
My Cabinet is four Generals and a CBO/SCI.

Created a #press-room channel on Discord, and a Gmail, for the Press Corps. Then gathered a few top writers to form a writers’ pool, to share docs and corroborate on the WHPR and all government newspapers. So far we’ve refurbished a couple old tutorials, and Phenix Quinn has submitted several WHPR segments in advance. Still looking for a top soldier who’ll do Maps/Analysis/Tutorials, and we really need to get more work in toward fresh and recycled tutorials.
It’s a measured success so far, plenty of room to improve.

The WHPR and Pony Express have both published on time and under budget, plus an Extra or two. Ratings have been tolerable but not what I’d expect of The Official Government Newspaper.
The TV Show themed Pony paper series was discontinued in favor of a streamlined format that can flex with the available material. Top pics have shifted from the iconic “odd people at the podium” theme to “Custer (as Carl from UP) in odd places.”
By the way, that’s the fun I get out of this miserable game, making silly composite pictures. The rest of my game time is in public service, and I get a lot of satisfaction from it.
If anything the WHPR and Pony papers has done has helped the sporadic media revival, that’s great, but.. People publishing more media, that’s all you.

We need active players to write for all the government papers. There’s work involved, expectations and deadlines. Finding people who like doing work is proving to be quite a challenge.

I fired a really popular guy… Like a lot of y’all, King Taco has a life and will budget his eRep time to working with the Feds. I do not want to be SecMed, but have picked up that hat for now.

I also got the Interior hat.. Interior has evolved to include the duties of former Departments of Citizens Affairs and Education, as well as Food Distribution. The job entails actual work, so it’s been hard (for several Administrations) to get someone to fill the position. Thee Dude remains my Official Minister of the Interior, his actual job responsibilities are elsewhere.

I work with my Generals– Owl, Dude, Voots and shefutzu– every day on Discord, to set your battles in motion. We work well together and I’ve learned a lot. Those guys run the Wars and I do not screw with them.
Me learning the ways and nuances of the War module is not gonna happen. I start Wars and battles as directed, sometimes I ask curious noob questions, but… seriously, you won’t even find me on Telegram because that is not my element. It’s also not my job, that’s what Generals are for, and they’re doing it just fine.

I would also like to acknowledge and recognise Chief of Staff Melissa Rose, absolutely one of the most dedicated players I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Melissa has fought me hard to chill out and understand that we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Is there an elephant in the room? Because I sure do smell an elephant in the room.
I came in like gangbusters, saw a lack of sense of community as reflected in a nearly dead Media. I started my Unholy Furking Crusade even before becoming PoTUS, and ran on continuing to push media and community activity.
“‘National Initiatives’ is what they need– that’ll bring everyone out. Let’s try a couple things we used to do in the old days, because they were so successful at community building and they’re sure to perk these people up today!”

Meh, not so much. Then, at the end of the third failed Initiative, I went to write the check to Interior (hey, we did raise nearly half a mil, and Thanks to everyone who put in to that), and.. Um.. there’s no one to send the money to. Part of being short staffed at the Federal level was first rolling other Departments into Interior, then eventually there wasn’t a Dept of Interior.
Food distribution programs, like Owl’s Feed, were privately funded and Arrden did the bull work. I thanked Arrden for his service and set up a new spreadsheet.
Okay, so I walked right into that one. I got a Department that needs the Press Corps to revive its education program, and a facilitator to move all this stuff I got leftover from the Grab Bags event. Guess who got that job. Like SecMed, I don’t want to be Secretary of Interior. There are just more damn hats around here with nobody to wear them.

So… tried some stuff, and sucked a lot but finally pulled off a popular one.
I have projects to work on, and the quest continues to find a strong and knowledgeable fighter player to write for the government papers. It’d make all the difference in what, and how we can present media to you.

An April Custer Administration will look a lot like March, but run a bit smoother and hopefully have better successes.
