Cultural Hegemony, Drones to the Elites.

In New York City, there are horse carriage services that takes you around the city especially around the Central Park area. To prevent the cars from shocking or scaring the horses, the driver puts a blind on them so the horse can only see forward but nothing from the side. In a way, our society operates in such a way. Better yet, I will say all society operates that way.

Regardless of your eAge and experience etc, if you deal or participate in politics, you are an elite. In all societies, there are conflict and different perspective. There are clash of interest and vision. We call that politics. In eBE, you have members like ThomasRed, Jofroi, Elynea, Ward de Beaver, NLSP are elites on one side. In a way, due to their powerbase, all of these members are like the nobility of both the sword and the robe. They themselves are an institution and they have great power. On the opposite side, you have elites like Shadow, Jamster, MG, Xgen, Mikhail, M.Leviathin etc are slightly different. Besides Shadow who is an institution in itself, the oppositional elites are not an institution. They might be well known or "famous" but their name does not have the same weight.

When I say some members are institutions in itself, it deals with the concept of hegemony. When in a discussion or a debate, when one evokes the name of ThomasRed, Jofroi, or Elynea it evokes a perceived legitimacy from it. This perceived is not actual legitimacy on the legal sense, but to some, it is fact not on the logical or rational dimension but solely on their names alone. People like Shadow and myself have the same effect but on different political spectrum. Therefore, I am not making a partisan statement, but that in any societies, some members of it are an institution in itself. Examples of this are Mr Woldy, Iain Keers, Mittekremuis, Gobba (pre-thief), Donnie Bronco, Pizza the Hut, Phoenix Quinn, Cerber, Vinegar, Shoot, etc.

Many of these institutionalized elites creates hegemony in their community. Not all does this, but many does. If we look at eBE, institutionalized elites like ThomasRed, Jofroi, and Elynea greatly established the norms of eBelgium. Many of the laws are codified, but more importantly, they created a society that has tradition. Tradition that restricts and limits behavior. It is tradition that the CP makes immigration policies. It is tradition for elected congressmen to donate their gold. I am not saying traditions are bad; but nevertheless, tradition does restrict personal liberties. Traditions, that if challenged, is painful for the challengers.

The media and the public sphere is the battle arena. Most if not all of the above elites got their power and influence in the media or the forums. It is also in the media, where they exercise their power. For many of them, they shape the mindset of the community via the media. The elites writes what is "important." They set the agenda, and they provide an "acceptable" solution. The group that controls the media, controls the norms and the public opinions of the community. Therefore, the media and forum are vital in the war of ideas.

In eBE, people who challenge the "established" orders are attacked. Especially in the past, but can be true today. People who attack the BAF was in returned attacked. They are either said to be unpatriotic and do not care about the aspiration of Belgium, to you are crazy and do not understand eBelgium. Same with the congress tax. Either you pay or you do not care about the community and you are selfish. This is a great example of a cultural hegemony. This means that the institutionalized elites not only controls and agenda and the questions they ask, they also control the questions and issues that are not ask; hence, we have our blinds on like the horses. The elites via the media puts blinds on the society as a whole. We see what they want us to see and are prevented to see the stuff that they do not want the people to see. The few that took their blinds off, are attacked and marginalized. This is true too in other societies. In eGermany, Steinmetze can be argued to be a cultural hegemon facing a new rising power, the people of BAD company and the PULSeD.

With the above stated, education is a great source of power. For it is education that shapes the ontology and perspective of the young. The teachers are in fact an elite post of great power. It is also a great source of concern for democratic society to make sure that the teachers are indeed teaching. Therefore, the leader of the BTA, and many other militias, etc are great source of power and can potentially create ones power base. This is why many parties contain a newbie help institutions, be it a commune, school, MU etc.

This process works in a process of a dialectic. The old guards clashes with new. If the new vision wins, the new vision becomes the new order. The cycle repeats again. It is a cycle. For if Shadow and his group becomes the new norms and the old guard is out, the situation will continue. Shadow will create new traditions and new philosophy and direction. There will be conflict and he will try to dominate the media/ forum. Nothing will change. Therefore, the elites of today are not villains, but they are not saints as well.

Elynea once called me an evil mastermind manipulator. In a way she is correct from her perspective. I challenged her power source and the traditions. I undermined who she is. However, she is herself an "evil mastermind manipulator" as well. For she is an institutionalized elite that got her power via being a cultural hegemon. She, like all who are active in politics and the media, put a blinder on the society. All elites are hegemonic in one way or the other. On one way or the other, we are all Borg drones, and no one can really take of their blinders. Some see more than others, but all are still mostly blind. Resistance is futile for no one can truly be free...
