Critical Error - Baby Trap

Day 679, 22:03 Published in Canada USA by Dean Cliff

For those of you who don't know what a baby trap is, it's a company (usually foreign, enemy) that offers many low level jobs at ridiculously high wages to attract unsuspecting players. This company does not have money and thus cannot pay for work. The unsuspecting players get stuck there and cannot work and usually quit the game if they are new players because they don't understand what's going on.

Here's a great example

The reason why this is a critical error is that the game mechanics propel new players into the trap; the game effectively encourages this malpractice (note that admin does not consider baby traps to be illegal). The critical error is that baby traps exploit game mechanics to kill new citizens, to send new players packing and deny nations an influx of new citizens.

The ciritical error has a name: Plato. The moment new players arrive, they are introduced to Plato who strongly advises them to follow him and get to know how eRepublik works. The first thing Plato wants new players to do is find a job. In the case where a baby trap is present, Plato effectively invites you to die, because Plato will then tell you to work, which you cannot do, but does not offer any explanation as to why you can't work. Plato won't go on to invite you to train unless you skip what he says. New players have no clue what's going on. Plato won't go on to tell you to get an avatar either; notice how all the new employees of the company linked above have no avatar!

This is a Critical Error! Bay traps use the game introduction to kill new players on their first click! There needs to be change. Either baby traps become illegal and their instigators are sanctionned, or Plato or the company page CLEARLY inform players that the company they just joined has no money to pay them and that their best course of action is to resign and find another job.

This Critical Error falls under eRepublik Laws, Citizen Laws article 6 and Organization Laws article 6, whereby each player is required to ticket admin about any critical errors they find in the game.

I invite all players to contact game support with a Critical Ticket to report this Critical Error. Under eRepublik Laws it is your duty!
