Congressional Update

Day 717, 11:26 Published in USA USA by Evan Feinman

Well, readers and constituents, there is a lot to discuss.

As I write this, eRussia has attacked Washington. Always follow DoD orders. IF YOU NEED GUNS OR WELLNESS, PM ME.

DOMESTIC AFFAIRS:

As usual, I continue to support our military's war effort by voting to transfer funds to our war machine. Our men and women in uniform are the greatest in the New World - and I'll do everything I can to make sure they get what they need. Further, we are in the process of figuring out what the military will need to expand the Training Corps. I know a lot of you want to get in on the action, and the Training Corps is where you can.

I also voted in favor of a bill to release funds to pay back the patriots who invested in war bonds during eMerica's darkest hour. This was vital to the war effort, and those who gave deserve their GOLD, their interest, and the thanks of this nation. The recent transfer to the Flying Unicorn Squadron (proposed by me) represents the first step toward repaying that debt. We used the FUS, because they have the most experience in managing donations to huge numbers of citizens.

Finally, let me discuss the proposed funding freeze from last week. Here's what happene😛 It was discovered that the executive had basically, over the course of the war, taken over the Congressional Budget Office (the org that actually distributes the funds congress allocates during the budget cycle). That meant that we were basically handing your tax dollars over to a single person without any way to make sure they were being spent the way they should be. It's not a question of trusting or not trusting a single person, we just felt, as a Congress tasked with taking are of your money, that this wasn't acceptable. When our request to be given control of our own budget office wasn't complied with, a few senior Senators floated the idea of stopping our daily donations for a few days to make the point that taking care of your money is our job.

Ultimately, the funding freeze never happened and the Congress is now back in a position where we can oversee and verify all expenditures to make sure everything's on the up and up.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS:

I voted in favor of MPPs with Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Romania and Australia. With pending rules changes, its in our best interest to get these signed as quickly as possible.

Finally, I have been arguing against our nation joining EDEN or expanding the Brolliance. While I value our allies above all else, I believe that you shouldn't fix that which isn't broken. We work well with our allies now, and joining EDEN only removes their flexibility to absorb defecting PEACE nations, leaves our asian and pacific allies hanging on a limb, and prevents us from conducting foreign policy without continental restraint.

As for the Brolliance, I believe it works so well because it is an acknowledgment of the special relationship between our nation and Canada. Adding additional countries doesn't make sense. I'm all for other bilateral MPPs, but I don't believe the Brolliance is something that can be expanded, I believe the Brolliance is the name for the alliance between the eUS and eCanada, period.

That's it for this week. As always, PM me with your thoughts about Congress, and if you'd like to get involved, and want to see how Congress really works, I'm looking for a good aide.
