Congressional Update #2: Ohio

Day 390, 17:24 Published in USA USA by Tiacha

Hello all. It’s been a busy week in Congress. I’ve been busy with real life issues (Finals and now getting myself ready to take the GRE), so I apologize for the lateness of this article. Here’s my voting record for the past week and a half and why I voted the way I did. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I’ve moved to Florida to help the war effort but will be back in Ohio as soon as possible. And as always, Ohio citizens, if you have any concerns or suggestions for legislation, let me know. Now, the votes.

(Please not in legislation concerning taxes the first number is the VAT, the second number is the import tax, and the third number is the income tax).

Changing the Hospital tax from 1/99/1 to 1/1/7
My vote, Yes, and the bill passed 38-3
My reasoning: There are not many hospital companies in the US and the lowered import tax will help us bring more hospitals to many states.

Buying a Q1 Defense System for North Carolina
My vote: Yes, passed 43-0
My reasoning: Every state deserves a DS especially one on a European border.

Changing the wood tax from 1/48/1 to 0/99/1
My vote: No, rejected 5-38
My reasoning: This bill was not discussed on the forums before being proposed and I wanted more time to think over the changes.

Changing the wood tax from 1/48/1 to 0/10/7
My vote: No, rejected 21-21
My reasoning: While I was all for the lowered import tax, raising the income tax is only going to harm American business owners.

Changing the house tax from 1/99/1 to 3/25/7
My vote: No, passed 32-8
My reasoning: I like the import tax at 25%, but like the wood tax, how are we going to encourage new business if we keep upping the income tax?

Buying a Q3 Defense System for Virginia
My vote: Yes, passed 39-0
My reasoning: This was a bill I pushed for personally and would have proposed if the president wasn’t the only one would could propose DS bills. Virginia has a high population and is a European border state and therefore, a key place for a high level DS.

Changing the Weapon take from 3/99/10 to 1/5/10
My vote: Yes, passed 35-5
My reasoning: Lowering the import tax would bring down the cost of a potential war.

Declaring War on France
My vote: No, passed 43-3
My reasoning: See my larger article here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/why-i-voted-no-to-war--706139/1

This war, as I suspected, has only driven up the price on almost all products in every industry. I have yet to see anything really good come from it and the price on products and the value of the dollar has not stabilized.

Changing the wood tax from 1/48/1 to 0/10/2
My vote: Yes, passed 24-17
My reasoning: Congress finally agreed on an acceptable income tax while lowering the import tax to help competition.

Buying a Q1 hospital for Iowa
My vote: Yes, passed 44-1
My reasoning: Every state deserves a hospital.

Mutual Protection Pact with China
My vote: No, rejected 5-34
My reasoning: As many of you heard, some Chinese officials bribed American Congressmen in attempt to get this passed. I was not among the Congressmen bribed. I voted no because there was no discussion of this on the forums and found no real reason for a MPP with China. Why waste our gold?

Buying a Q3 Defense System for California
My vote: Yes, passed 36-1
My reasoning: California has the largest peace time population in the US. (One really should not count Florida because their population has only increased because of the war). Therefore, since Cali has such a large population and it borders Mexico, it is a perfect spot for a DS.

Mutual Protection Pact with Argentina
My vote: Yes, passed 22-0
My reasoning: They are an Atlantis country and this was a renewal of our MPP with them. Note, the reason for the low vote turnout was because of a glitch in the Congressional voting system which was later corrected by the Admins.

Transferring 70 gold from the US Treasury to the Federal Reserve Org account
My vote: Yes, passed 39-0
My reasoning: This was to fund the wartime effort and make fund more accessible to the military. Also, this was to make sure we don’t put all of our chickens in one basket.

Mutual Protection Pact with Sweden
My vote: Yes passed 37-2
My reasoning: Like Argentina, this was a renewal MPP. Plus, Sweden is an Atlantis country.

Mutual Protection Pact with Canada
My vote: Yes, passage pending with a vote of 34-3
My reasoning: Again, we are renewing an MPP with an Atlantis country.

Moving 99999 USD from the Treasury to the Federal Reserve
My vote: Yes, passage pending with the vote currently at 30-2
My reasoning: Again, this is to fund the war effort and get supplies to our boys.

If you have any question about any of my votes, feel free to ask. As always, long live Ohio and may our nation prosper in this time of trial and hardship.
