Congressional Report (6/20)

Day 1,308, 13:25 Published in USA USA by Jufedkg Borman
Hello There Everyone!

I really don’t know how/why this update took so long. I’m sorry for this.

At this point, junior congressmen have found their voice and begun to speak up. Some even joined me in pointing out the lack of information we’ve been receiving. At this point, I’d say congress works much better together and everyone’s paying attention and contributing. Some hang in the back and keep quiet, but speak up when it matters and when they’re needed.

At first, Glove would post a thread every time there was an upcoming proposal he wanted us to vote on and would tell us why we should vote yes. This was extremely useful and helpful, but has since slowed down.

I would like to inform my constituents about the current situation with INCI. I am not completely informed as to what the group is doing as a whole, but many of them have been leaving eUSA for eCyprus. Several of their congressmen have resigned, some of their leadership and many of their members have left. There is still a dedicated group remaining in SC and fighting for eUSA – but many of them seem to be leaving. This is just initial observation, though, and I will update more fully when I know.

My Bills:
While I have not proposed any in-game bills, I’ve begun discussion on the US forums about what Congress can do to help our military situation. We’re outmanned, outgunned, and losing regions left and right, and I want to do something. Unfortunately, Congress can’t really do anything directly. The last time Congress tried to get involved in the military…we lost the military. I’m not trying to run the military, what I’m trying to do is convert treasury money to gold so that we can afford for more people to tank. (Tank, or Tanking, is using gold to strength train, instant defeat, and buy health packs so that when our hardest hitters have used all their health and weapons they can still use their strength to get victories) This is still in initial stages, so I’m not sure exactly what’s going on.

Congress as a whole hasn’t done much else to handle the war situation, but certain members, such as myself, have taken matters in to their own hands. We’re encouraging greater communication and cooperation among the military and all militias – pushing for unified strikes and hopefully victories.

• I’m pretty sure we’re allied, but either way one of my RL friends is in Ireland’s DoD and I totally trust him and the nation because of him. Honestly, even if we weren’t allied with them, I trust this guy so much that I’d still vote yes – even if I was the only vote.

• Necessary

Wednesday, June 15th, 3:35 PM EST – I voted yes for Arcnox’s proposal to change the tax rates on Weapon Raw Materials.
• Congress debated and passed these tax changes for two reasons. The main reason is that, based on our budget and weekly intake, we’re putting a lot of money in the reserve and could afford to take less money in from taxes. Therefore, we decided to give tax breaks pretty much across the board so that Americans can keep more money and we won’t be taking in too much money. We also increased the import tax rates on most goods in an effort to help our economy and take more money from foreigners trying to flood our markets with cheap goods and driving our prices down.

Wednesday, June 15th, 3:35 PM EST – I voted yes for AmyHat’s proposal to change the tax rates on food.

What I didn’t Vote On:

• Glove proposed a mutual protection pact with Uruguay, but I couldn't find any reason to vote yes. In the end, I was told it was a renewal several hours after the vote expired.

• I was unavailable to vote for this proposal

My Forum Votes:

Tuesday, June 14th, 11:47 PM EST – I voted yes on the proposed tax changes.
• I did so for the reasons already given.

Wednesday, June 15th, 12:21 AM EST – I voted SGTRock for IES director
• Uhriventis resigned his position as IES director and a vote began between SGTRock and Kria Erikson. I considered the two candidates and decided that SGTRock would bring greater dedication to the job and work harder to ensure that no PTOers got citizenship.

Important Congressional Discussions:

1. It’s been revealed that certain congressmen have been selling citizenship for gold. This is entirely illegal and dangerous. Many Congressmen came forward to criticize and condemn whomever it was – but the name was never revealed.
2. Glove has proposed a new immigration procedure which aims to reward those who deserve citizenship and generation gold for the treasury. It needs some more refinement, but may prove to be very useful.
3. Discussion was started about signing new MPPs with several nations, Columbia, Belgium, Pakistan, and Austria. I stated that I was for Columbia and Belgium, for Austria given certain conditions on the aid we can provide, and undecided on Pakistan.
4. It was proposed that the private congressional forum be abolished. I pointed out that, as much as I hate privacy and lack of transparency, there are some times when the forum is necessary. In response, some proposed legislating what could and could not go in the forum. This is absurd and we came to the general consensus that Congressmen should (like I do) post in the public congressional forum whenever possible, and only rarely use the private forum. We also agreed that the moderators should move inappropriate topics from either forum to the other.
5. We’ve begun discussion over rewriting/fixing the Arm America amendment. The director currently can not be fired and can only be removed by a next-to-impossible 2/3rds of Congress vote. I proposed that we change the vote number to one over 50% of that week’s quorum. The topic is still going.
6. Lastly and, possibly most importantly, Shy7 has been talking about impeaching Glove for the last few days. He began a forum vote which was abandoned in favor of returning to forum discussion. There seems to be next to no support for his plan, but it seems he will make an impeachment proposal regardless.
