Congressional Report #3

Day 2,142, 04:49 Published in Canada Serbia by Sally Willis

I'm still in the stocks, but am gladdened by the comments on my last article. I am hopeful I might get my suspension truncated. I've made a good argument for it.

Meanwhile I am still working behind the scenes to improve the things that need improving, and I have begun work with others to see about making some important reforms in Congressional procedure so that more can get done.

Hot news overnight from the fetid hothouse of intrigue and mystery that is the Open Door Congress. (All eCanadians should take a little time to join the eCanadian Forums and -- if nothing else -- at least keep an eye on what your congressmen are up to.) But back to the hot news ... the link above takes you directly to an open session of congress debate. It was started by President DMV. It began with DMV's bitter announcement of his resignation at 1.29am, and climaxed with the resignation from her Congressional seat by Acacia Mason. This has blown the whole political landscape of eCanada wide open, and next election for President this coming Saturday looks like a whole new ball game. Which brings me to another matter ....

Our budget is a shambles and a disgrace. The vote I called for, which got me my suspension, concerned taxes but it was damned as an illegal vote by the Speaker. He instructed congress to vote down the proposals, there were at least 10 disobedient congressmen who agreed with me anyway and voted Yes. Thanks, guys and girls, whoever you are. Check the votes out for yourself!.

Now look at our current budget.. For those who may find spreadhseets a little confusing, allow me simplify what this budget actually tells us.

Tax Revenue for the month = $50,000
Spending for the month = $160,000

The budget balances itself by listing "anonymous donations" amounting to $150,000 (some say these funds come from outside the eCanadian economic area and the motives of the donors are suspect ... I neither know anything about such conspiracy theory, nor do I seriously believe 90% of the crap I've read on the subject!)

What I do have an opinion on is the notion of a balanced (and honest) budget. Our current tax rates for all substantive economic activity are at the lowest possible level of 1%.

One doesn't have to be Stephen Hawking to see that raising VAT from 1% to 5% on the sales of weapons and food would go a long way to closing our budget gap. I urge you to shout this message in your party political feeds: WE LIKEZ LOW TAXES. BUT NOT SO DAMNED LOW WE HAVE TO ACCEPT HANDOUTS FROM ANONYMOUS SOURCES!

Moreover I am quite sure that Congress, as a whole, is strongly in favor curtailing the number of 10k/month Mutual Protection Pacts we otherwise blithely sign.

Now then ... something for the Dads ....

Goddess of Democracy ... what? Oh, alright, here ya go ...
