Congressional Report #2

Day 2,140, 15:30 Published in Canada Serbia by Sally Willis

The pen is mightier than the sword!

Well, people it happened a tad sooner than expected, but better sooner than later, I say. Less than five days into my 30 day term of office as a congresswoman I have been "suspended". This punishment was applied completely unconstitutionally; first because I do not believe I broke any rules of order, and secondly because I received no message, mail, PM, or whatever -- either within the eRep format, or within the messaging system of the eCanada forum ( which is where my suspension applies ... I have been barred from reading and from posting across the whole forum ... not just the barred from the closed door congress section.

My crime? I tried to force the issue of Canada's broken government and even more broken budget. After four days of having a little political power I grew impatient. Why?

Monthly elections make for lively politics, but it's also a recipe for disaster when procedure slows the political process so that during the 30 or so days of any particular congress almost nothing can be agreed.

Congressmen have the power to propose a limited number of actions, and my powers to do that have not been withdrawn ... but only because the myrmidons who control the eCanada forum -- and therefore the whole political process -- do not have the in-game power to unseat me.

It's time to consider a complete constitutional overhaul.

Congressional debates should be open and not held behind closed doors.

Foreign policy matters should be conducted in camera, but under the auspices of the Presidential cabinet; and the foreign secretary should report to congress at least bi-weekly and transparently for all interested parties to see.

These basic elements of government are the bedrock of democracy. I will not support a self-serving system which abuses its electorate.

My proposal to raise VAT on food and weapons sales from 1% to 5% has been trashed, presumably by yesmen who wouldn't notice the difference between 101 and 105. "Yesmen"? Well ... eCanada's treasury grew by 100,000 CAD overnight. Where did that come from? It didn't come from taxes, I can tell you. Just because the tax rate rate is low doesn't mean you're better off; this isn't the real world. Taxes are low because someone else is paying the bill and they don't like it when someone points this out.

Since I was suspended, a new congressional vote was raise😛 Shall we set an Mutual Protection Pact with the USA? Good grief these things cost 10,000 bucks a month ... and trust me, the biggest budget element of every recent administration has involved planning the funding of dozens of these cash-sapping game traps. As an idiot new congress representative I arrived with a silly preconception: namely that joining an international alliance automatically created MPPs between all the members. Wrong. We are currently provisional members of Circle Of Trust which has 14 members plus ourselves and France as trial members. So membership of CoT will cost us 150,000 CAD every month, and the only debate on that issue (behind closed doors) revolves around the idea that maybe CoT will allow us to skip some, or a few MPPs unless forced by an invasion of a CoT member. What is worse, I have yet to unearth evidence that eCanada can even generate a tax income to fund such extravagance.

It's an outrage! But here's something for the dads ....
