Congress, Day 1476
Stanley Ibcus
Looking back on today's events, I realized that it was probably not right of me to include commentary with this article. So I removed it and changed the title.
Congress Day 1476
My Discussion topic:
Our GDP continues to decline. We have increased taxes to cover our costs and rebuild the reserves. While this has proven to be a success in the short term our long term outlook is bleak. The economy is not getting any better.
In macroeconomics, there are two basic methodologies for correcting recession.
1. Monetary Policy: Print more money or increase taxes.
2. Fiscal Policy: decrease taxes to stimulate the economy or invest in the economy by purchasing goods.
I do not think we should print money. I do not think we should increase or decrease taxes at this time.
We need to invest in our economy by purchasing goods from the market. I would like to put together a commitee to make daily purchases from the market. The goods would be purchased at the lowest market rate for a given product.
The commitee would track the flucuations in market prices, goods available for sale, estimated tax revenues, and number of individual offers. All government purchases would be used to supply eUS Troops and the Department of the Interior. The commitee would provide detailed reports every other day for analysis by congress as a whole. Success will be measured by a sample size of GDP.
Initially, this commitee should make purchases of $5000 per day for 15 days. This will allow enough time to measure any significant change in GDP. At the end of this 15 day period congress will review the results and vote to continue the program or disolve the commitee.
Financing: Congress would need to approve a one-time budget item of $30,000. Any future financing would depend on the results of the initial period and be voted on by congress.
I would like to chair this commitee myself with George Armstrong Custer and another congressmen as co-chairs.
Thoughts, improvements, suggestions:
Pfeiffer's Reply:
I don't care if you people do this, it's dumb...but so far we've already passed one piece of legislation we don't need.
However, if anyone here thinks we can trust Stanley Ibcus with this, assuming we pass this PoS bill, I'm going to move for censure. The only significant position of trust he's ever held in this game was USWP Party President, and he used it to attempt to destroy the party. He failed, because he's stupid, but if you let him anywhere near public funding this will turn in to the most ridiculous Congress since Brad's hissy fit, because I will go absolutely apesh*t on all of you.
Now, feel free to carry on, but Pig and Pearl just finished it, imo...except that Pearl has no evidence that the bot pays taxes.

Well... I can understand the lack of trust in you.
And trust me, I HATE to agree with Pfeiffer.

Voted. This is disgusting....
The saddest part is everyone knows how bad Pfeiffer is.... but think we need him around anyway. It's like when someone refuses to leave an abusive spouse.
^ lolol Look who's talking.
"Now, what is wrong with congress again?"
brb textwalling
unreal
This article is quite delicious.
PS - Buying goods of the market thinking that will stimulate it is like Obama giving stimulus to companies who are billions in the red, or worse.
If congress feels like they should allow him to do it then he should. In the end Pfeiffer is not the government and should not censure some one in that manner without repercussions.
WTF???
Ban Pfeiffer from Forum Admin.
While Pfeiffer is a congressman and has the right to raise a censure vote, his reasoning behind this thread is SO OBVIOUSLY personal that HE is the one who deserves censure.
Abuse of power is ugly.
And perhaps twisted-pixel has a point. Maybe the time has come for his Forum Administrative priv. to be revoked?
Why would Congress trust you with our money, when you've already proven by your own actions that you can't be trusted?
Let's assume that the article you linked is the full truth. I don't believe it is, I believe that you cracked and rather than admit that what you did was the result of your inability to do the job well you tried to burn it down, but I'll stipulate that it is for the purposes of this comment. So, given that:
Why would anyone ever trust that your intent isn't to simply do the same here?
The proposal itself is dumb, your attempt to legislate yourself money from the CBO is laughable.
Stanley cannot be trusted. End of story, that simple.
Lets say the Money itself is given to the third chairman and stanly never touches the money what damage can he do then?
Dumb proposals = voted down, not threaten.
Just a faux pas in passing on your thoughts...a running theme.
If old ideas work...fine. New ideas come along.
Trust is an interesting word to use here. Trust is dependent upon the possibility of loss. Otherwise, what's the purpose? If there's no risk then there would be no reason to trust.
I don't worry about the risk of my foam cutout of "Err" falling on my desk because it poses on threat - therefore I neither trust nor fear it - it simply exists, perched on a shelf.
eRepublik simply exists, perched on a shelf. The ideas presented here pose no threat. They can neither harm nor help because they are ideas about nothing. "I have a brilliant idea about nothing" What sane person can think, "Hmm, I don't trust that guy" Well, maybe you'd be a little concerned with the fact that he has ideas to make nothing more, umm, nothing. But, aside from that, there is no threat.
I am far more concerned about the person who threatens to go "apesh*t" over nothing. That is a person who truly should not be trusted.
Ibcus you dumbass, raising taxes is Fiscal policy, not Monetary policy, this is why America does badly, people pretending they know economics when they actually no zero!
I do agree to with the core of Pfeiffer's opinion. The way he brings it is in his own Pfeiffer way you either appreciate or not.
Haha, these comments.

Just repeating your same tired, old bullshit won't convince anyone of anything.

This country has some characters...

Hi, are you new? Pfeiffer does this to everyone, and censure requires a vote by the entire Congress, who, surprise surprise, would not actually support something like this, despite the staggering idiocy of your proposals.
I don't understand why you need $30,000. Spending $5000 a day for 15 days is going to run you a $75,000 bill. Please explain your math.
You really shouldn't be bitching about something that happend on the congressional thread just because someone disagreed with you, Pfeiffer is going to troll you. GET USE TO IT. You hold a possition of power: you're in congress. If you are going to be so unprofessional as to come over to your newspaper and bitch about your disagreement when he has obvious reasons for disagreeing with you and mistrusting you than you should obviously step aside and let others do the job for you and do it right.
so basically you are saying it is ok for pfeiffer to be a jerk, but it is not ok for anyone to call him on it?
I'm saying it's retarded that he published a newspaper bitching about it
and handling it purely on the forum won't work, where pfeiffer is an admin, and can smack down any complaint about him.
BigBoy, I am simply bringing what happened on the forums to the media module. To appease you, I will do this every couple of days.
That's great if you want to talk about what has happened on the forum in the past few days go for it! In fact I wish that more people did that but this is not at all what this article is, this is your personal bitchfest not an article informing the people of important events.
Stanley, I will say this unequivocally: no changes will be made to forum staff via methods like this. If you have a legitimate complaint about the behavior or actions of any mod, regional mod, global mod or admin they can either be posted to the Forum Discussions section or brought to me personally.
And Cody, I actually run the forums albeit I try to do so in as even-handed manner possible. Contrary to popular belief, the eusaforums.com domain is owned by me and I lease the server and keep everything running. Pfeiffer is one of many that puts in time doing a volunteer job. Because he keeps things running so I don't have so much work I am loyal to him.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not really a political player. The same applies to the forums. I've talked with Pfeiffer about how he's perceived on the forums and how that impacts how the forums are used and perceived as a whole. I take my role and ability to provide the forums to the eUSA eRepublik community very seriously. I always have, I always will.
Finally, this stuff pisses me off on so many levels it's not funny. I am a 44 yr old father of four kids and really don't want to deal with people's whining and bitching about stuff that occurs in a browser based game on the internet. You all need to do something else with your time.
blind loyalty is no excuse to allow his behavior to go unchecked, when plenty of evidence exists of how he treats people.
This hardly seems like the correct place to discuss this.
"so basically you are saying it is ok for pfeiffer to be a jerk, but it is not ok for anyone to call him on it?"
um.... yeah, pretty much. didn't you get the memo?
Custer, PigInZen likes to shield Pfeiffer. He has a thing for him.
Okay regardless of who's right and wrong it is completely uncalled for to say what he said about your proposal. I personally think this is a good proposal that should be tested, but again that's not my point. Pfeiffer had no reason to say that "He failed, because he's stupid"
"I personally think this is a good proposal that should be tested"
Please actually read thread as to why the proposal is an utter failure x_x
I know people love to make assumptions but w/e. This is a game, after all, and I try not to take it too personally. I am loyal to Pfeiffer because he is an effective forum admin and has always done right by me. I do realize that he has a penchant for abusing others. That's not my style and nor do I encourage or condone that but he is able to make decisions for himself, I do not do that for him.
I do wish that people would stop taking shit so personally though.
Pfeiffer may be a troll, but I have to agree with him that this idea is kinda what he said. and this has nothing to do with trust for me.
First of the assumptions are wrong😒
"Our GDP continues to decline"
Says who? If anything, GDP has been picking up sine we liberated some regions. Sure it's less that it was when we occupied Spain, but this one now is kinda average.
"We have increased taxes to cover our costs and rebuild the reserves."
The revenues did not increase with the new tax policy nor they were supposed to, from what the "masterminds" of this policy have said. If anything, the revenues dropped.
"1. Monetary Policy: Print more money or increase taxes."
Print money (or decrease interest rates) to increase money supply, yes. Increase taxes? No. That's neither monetary policy nor used to combat recession. It can be used to combat the deficit or inflation, however.
Having said that, it's not important for erep.
"Initially, this commitee should make purchases of $5000 per day for 15 days. "
75k in 15 days is nothing. seriously. that's less than 1% of the daily bot purchases of food and weapons alone. But even if it could have an effect, I'd still find the idea absurd, given that we live in an economic bubble.
"Success will be measured by a sample size of GDP."
So success would be measured very subjectively. Pretty much as this committee likes. Sorry but I won't buy it.
oh and I guess Hekter has covered me with his forum posts, even though I haven't read them in detail.
"We have increased taxes to cover our costs and rebuild the reserves. While this has proven to be a success in the short term our long term outlook is bleak."
That claim was debunked and the EC have already admitted that it was mere BS from the very beginning. The new tax regime did NOT increase revenues, and thus of course did NOT rebuild any 'reserves'. What did increased the reserves was that regular "Buy Constructions" outputs were stopped.
"The commitee would track the flucuations in market prices, goods available for sale, estimated tax revenues, and number of individual offers."
That is exactly what the Economic Council should have been doing from the very start, instead of weaving deluded theories completely ignoring game mechanics.
"Initially, this commitee should make purchases of $5000 per day for 15 days. This will allow enough time to measure any significant change in GDP."
There is practically no way to measure GDP. I also highly doubt such an intervention would have any effect on the economy at all. Any plans based on a real life model of supply and demand relations are clearly deluded.
What we have here are NOT competitive markets.
If you want to stimulate the economy, cut Income taxes, so more food and weapons will land in the players' inventory, and tax the bot by VAT instead.
"Please actually read thread as to why the proposal is an utter failure x_x"
Actually arguments on both side of that debate are mostly utter rubbish. This proposal is deluded - as well as the assumptions of the EC in the counterargument.
Well I've learnt a few things on this article.
1. Stanley has no clue on Economics whatsoever.
2. Pfeiffer abuses power and no one in charge is willing to stop him.
3. PiZ is 44
