Congrats, you have been elected to Congress

Day 1,193, 18:52 Published in USA USA by The Libertine

Dear Future Congressmember,

If you are lucky (or rich) enough to be elected to Congress tonight, here is a quick guide of what to do in the morning.

1) Head over to the eUS forums and register an account if you have not already done so.

2) Head over to the Congress board and find the sign in thread. It'll be fairly easy to find. If you can't track it down, send a forum PM to one of the Congress board moderators (Pfeiffer, Jasper Signa, Cromstar) and they'll surely help you out. Once you get there...sign in!

3) Read the Constitution and eUS Code. This explains how Congress and our government works! It will be important that you follow these rules to bring honor to your self and to your political party.

4) Wait. Do absolutely nothing. Do not propose any laws in-game. Do not use your citizenship passes. Just wait until the Congress session begins.

5) Once the term begins, make sure to check the Congress forum boards at least twice a day. Laws may only be proposed in game if they are discussed and approved on the Congress boards first. I know, this sounds silly, but it helps keep our proposals orderly and from interfering with essential money transfers and tax overhauls.

We've used this method for a long time, and it has worked great. We expect all Congressmembers to follow this procedure, and we expect all Party Presidents to work to ensure that their members do so or face consequences.

Congress is a place of great debate and great power, and with great power comes great responsibility. It's been said before by some that the best Congress is a boring Congress. In many ways, this is true. The best we generally expect from Congress is to "not mess up." Not messing up in a group that usually has over 50 members is often difficult to do, but we have managed to make sure the trains run on time each month for quite a while.

I will not be joining you all in Congress this month, but I wish the best of luck to all new Congressmembers. Remember to ask a lot of questions, be patient and respectful, and always follow proper Congress procedure. It's really not that hard to do. And if you are ever confused, just ask ligtreb or Cromstar what to do. They've been around Congress forever and are great at helping new Congressmembers get acclimated to our sometimes crazy system of doing things.

Future Congressmember, if you are calm and patient, you will do great.

Best,
~CRoy

I would not only appreciate but would implore American (both inci and not) readers of this article to republish this information in their own newspapers. Let's make sure everyone is ready to begin Congress tomorrow on the right foot.
