Communication Please! Come out of your IRC backrooms!

Day 1,906, 07:20 Published in Australia Chile by Vyrin the First

Part of the damage that eAus does to itself comes from the fact that most of what takes place goes on in dark, smoke-filled IRC backrooms.

Then we get snippets of conversation, spun in all directions to try to prove this or that political point. End result: no transparency, no clarity on what is actually happening.

As much as it may seem cumbersome, all significant debates and important issues should be done primarily here - in the news. The in-game news in this country is quite pathetic. It improved substantially last administration, but needs to continue to be reinforced.

Why is this important?

1) So that some of our most outspoken players can prove they are not simply interested in behind-the-scenes manipulation. If they're working for the good of eAUS let them show what they're doing in public.

2) To give other countries clarity about what we're doing and where we're headed, so they have less of a chance to twist things in their favor.

3) To give all players, especially new ones, a chance to learn what is going on and provide input. IRC is not a good medium when people are spread across time zones.

Now you will say, we have a forum for that. Well the forum is quite cumbersome to use and follow. Plus, it has issues that undermine what I have just listed.

People will of course scream that they need the privacy that IRC allows for sensitive negotiations and chats. True, but then follow it up with a news article. Share what you can about what you know. Better that then to have it used against you weeks later.

IRC allows manipulators too much free play right now at the expense of the success of all of us in this eWorld. It allows people to say anything they want about us and each other with impunity.

As usual though, my ideas are like shouting in the wind. So I don't expect much - just put it out there. But you have to agree our news posting is quite pathetic.

Albino Squirrel begs you for news!

We get the Government we deserve Vyrin.
People play for all sorts of reasons, some get their jollies by playing exactly that way.
It always will be a factor & I bet it happens in all countries.

The XG government did that. What the press secretary needs to do is really keep a hold of the information flow with the rapid changes to policy that's about to take place. Roll out articles one every 1-2 days on the changes and how they effect each element. It will provide a decent spread and give cits something decenet and substantive to read besides the going-nowhere fluff.

like both pictures Vyrin haha something freaks me ot about the squirrels eyes though haha

i agree with your comments for the most part i believe in a "decently" transparent government both here and in RL but it is hard to get

we have talked before how the newspapers here are well...dead haha sure there is an occasional article by Icetek and Mick to laugh at or whatever but at least they give me something to do but other then them there isn't very many authors out there

IRC is where it all happens because it is an instantaneous form of communication and allows fast decision making. Erep does not wait for PMs.

That's why I said spread them our Nicky because staring at government articles every day makes a person go blind.

tbh I expected something by now. Gov, if done correctly, is a time consuming business. Articles only take 5mins to write up though so. I hope someone knows what's going on.

Actually, with all the behind the scenes BS that was going on and being said by certain people that were not in government which I have since found out about. I should have implemented what I did with Fingerbuns article much much earlier to put those people back in their boxes much much sooner, hindsight however is always that, hindsight.

Maybe the current administration should be doing the same thing every 2 - 3 days, pumping out an article of full disclosure in context for all to read, it might save you from the silent backstabbers that are spreading lies behind your back : )
