Now anyone has to admit, this is a long list.
There is one other thing I haven't mentioned. Most People know that the English call the stretch of water between us and France The English Channel and the French call it Le Manche meaning the sleave. Someone once asked me, Why don't the French call it the ''French Channel''?
Well the answer is simple, and it goes back to middle ages. Only the English have owned both coasts each side of the channel at the same time.
Before the Hundreds Year War in about 1400s the entire north and west coast of France was controlled by England. Hence why it is called Brittanny and also why the English Channel Islands are controlled by the Queen rather than France (barely 15 miles away).

***Before the Hundreds Year War in about 1400s the entire north and west coast of France was controlled by England. Hence why it is called Brittanny ***
Wrong. We are named after them, not vice-versa.
well not strictly true - Britons (or Brythons) were an indigenous race (to the UK) descended from celtic tribes that settled in the south of engalnd (~5/300BC), some of whom then left for northern france who came to be known as bretons. brittanny, the name, is probably an amalgam of both.
It's a common misconception that these two areas are named because of any events post 500AD - the romans in 1 BC called the UK Brittania. Brittanny was always locally known as such since the Bretons moved. ~ but we were called it first😛
Gibraltar?
Rule Britannia!!!
The map is up to date, but the list is not. A number of the territories on it are no longer overseas territories or even part of the commonwealth - Ireland, for example, or Hong Kong. Was that deliberate?
the list includes any all teritories at any point. i have made no difference between present and future.
but gibraltar, yup we still own that one!!
Scipio is correct. I meant that 'Great' Britain was named subsequent to Brittany (and to distinguish itself from it). But I was lazy in writing that properly.
The idea the Brittany is so named due to British possession of the area in the 1400s is daft.
**Now anyone has to admit, this is a long list.**
So was Schindler's List. What's your point?
distasteful man, distasteful
ahahaahhahahahh
to malta_1990: its a list of all past and present colonies. malta was a colony. live with it.
Colt Silver, your newspaper is the best on erepublik. Keep this british empire posts up. And I will continue to vote. BTW, did you know the Queen has the power to dissolve all the commonwealth governments ( no matter what the countries say about it ) she can do it. And she can declare war on behalf of them. Therefore, if Britain wanted to go to war against USA for example, it would have about 1 Billion people on its side. possibly the entire population of USA would be fighting for us.
Bobons fail! The Queen has no right to disolve the Canadian Government, only her representative, the Governor General can do that, and for the last 150 years, only on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
And Colt, EPIC FAIL again for being so imperialistic. and dragging RL into eRep.
