CND Theft: Watching and Waiting

Day 519, 00:41 Published in Canada Canada by CSD

Like the rest of eCanada, the CSD was shocked to learn that the money which had been allocated to the defence of our country had, in fact, been stolen. Current investigations indicate that one of our citizens was the victim of identity theft - a crime that had already robbed him of his company. That crime should be a lesson to each of us on the importance of keeping our online lives secure. But why was this citizen given control of one of our most important accounts? Security doesn't seem to be a lesson well learned by the current government.

Sure, this is a game, we understand that - but this crime was committed in the context of the game. It’s fair to ask: did the Bruck administration know about it? If so, did it take any measures to ensure the problem was fixed before granting control of one of our most important institutions?

As the investigation comes to a close, the CSD will continue to watch for how the Bruck administration responds to the situation, and we encourage other eCanadians to pay attention too. So far, while the investigation was launched in a timely fashion there has been little actual accountability taken by those involved in the debacle. While the forefront individual has resigned from congress over the incident, that resignation has not been made out of apology, regret, or even a desire to fall on one’s sword for the administration. Rather, it was made due to a fit of pique rolled up in a moving ticket to Latvia.

What we’d like to see is a sign that the administration considers the event a serious occurrence, and a plan put in place to make sure that all administrations will do better due diligence in the future. Our efforts to rally the eRepublik admins to our cause might be much more successful if we could demonstrate an interest and a practice in getting our own house in order.
