Chapter 3
He stepped in front of the force. It was a massive demon, who ruled the land before time. It prepared to attack, and generated a giant ball of energy.
He stood there, unmoving. The people stood behind him, afraid and uncertain of their fate. The demon released the energy, and the light blasted through the air directly at the prophet.
The air disintegrated as the energy rippled through it. The people all shut their eyes tightly, as they thought this was the end.
But it wasn't.
The beam struck the prophet, millions of kilowatts coursed through his body. Then, the beam dissipated. The people stood behind him in awe, their mouths agape about what they had just witnessed. The demon roared with all it's might, but the prophet stood, unwavering. The prophet then raised his arm, and pushed the air forward. A massive shock wave was created as the demon was pushed back, and they watched him fly at tremendous speed back into the darkness of the chasm. The prophet then turned to them, and said, "Follow me." They all walked to the door in air, the only structure for miles around in the dark expanse of the land before time.
He stood next to the door, and it opened, light shining through. This was the first time they had seen light, so some were nervous and afraid. The ones who were afraid of change turned around, and walked back to the chasm of darkness. But the ones who believed, they walked through the door. Eventually, everyone had made up there minds, and the prophet was the only one left. He turned and stood in front of the door, and looked at the blue skies on the other side.
He then walked through the door, and it closed behind him, sealing the two worlds forever.
Morning was coming.

Oh, I get it. It's a play on the dues ex machina, which has been utilized throughout the course of human literature, even dating back to such texts like those of classical religions. As the starving Jews perished in their ghettos during the holocaust, perhaps they imagined that a spirit would lead them from their suffering to the Promised Land. Do they really escape, or is it simply the mad raving of the condemned? Does it even matter?
