CCN Editorial // eSteroids: Bulking up citizens or watering down the game?

I'm sure many people were surprised to find an early present waiting under their eRepublik Christmas tree. The admins have introduced a new training module that removes the linear increases of citizen strength. Essentially, you can now pay gold to get better, faster.
I think this new training module will have a detrimental effect on the game for several reasons. The first problem is the increased temptation for players to cheat. It already happens enough and now that you can pay gold everyday to take your eRepublik steroids, even more people are going to take that risk of cheating just to evolve their citizen to a superhuman strength.
Another problem is the negative effect this will have on the economy. While people will be pouring money into upgrading their strength level, they will in turn be spending less on purchasing guns, houses and any other eCommodity. We need this gold to stay in our economy, end of story.
The final problem, and one of the most damaging to the game itself is that this module negates a lot of the time and hard work older eRepublik players have put into their citizens. It's not easy to grow to be a tank. You used to have to have been here for a while. That's part of the pride of being a tank. People know you put a lot into it. This module changes all of that now that you can buy your way there instead of earning it on the battlefield.
In conclusion, I do not like the new training module and I hope the admins revert back to the old one after this test. I hope that enough people make their voices heard when it comes to this module. Please vote up this article so we can get it seen. Even if you like the new module, make sure to comment and make yourself heard. The admins really deserve to hear our thanks for working so hard on this game for all of us, even if they don't get it right 100% of the time. Because one thing is for sure; the admins put a lot of time and hard work into this module and that is something that we can all admire.

I agree
Agreed, the admins deserve a hard worker medal, but I hope they listen to us and scrap the pay-to-train module. Btw, very good article!
Yeah. They really need the old one back.
vote!
Tout à fait d'accord. Voté.
i agree with u 100%. The new module changes all the goals we had when we started this game and now things are somehow upside down!

Thanks very much Theroen. I'm glad to see that people agree with me on this one. Let's spread the word and get more people behind this. It needs to be recognized that there is a possibility that every change made to the game may not work out in the end. There is no shame in going back.

i disagree with your conclution. Why do you asume they would spend less on weapons and houses? They are much cheaper then buying str.
paying for training will force people to find ways of making more money. this will increase the size of all economies. Capitalism at it's best. We want something, we work for it, we buy it, we want something else, and so on. The majority of players can not afford to buy gold with real life cash .
Awesome article, straight to the point!!!
Agreed. 100%
Agreed 80%. I just don't think it will be as horrible as it seems (I just think most people are making a really big fuss over it. I agree it sucks, but it's not going to be the end of the economy etc. As some are making it out to be.)
I just wish the admin would introduce things people really want instead of these stupid little side projects... Like how about getting your API going so the stock exchange can get open or the many other things that would really add to the fun of this game.
Also, something is up because the article that introduced the new training module has been deleted. At leas it is for me. The last article is the one about national goals... Not the training module.
I want to make the note that this is not one of those "The sky is falling!" articles. I just wanted to get my point across. Some people wrote as if this change was going to be the end of everything.
Either way, it's important to get your point across, whatever it may be. eRepublik has a community like no other. Even if some articlesmay have been a little over the top, I would rather see that then see people who don't like the new module bend over and take it without question.
/me likes the new module
Finally a Drug I can abuse and use all this money I made in my youth.
I hope the admins take all this complaining seriously
Like steroids, they make you stronger, and other bits smaller.
