THE PROFITS OF PATIENCE
275 days ago the Devs introduced a new element to eRepublik: Rocket Factories.
And while soldiers were abuzz with the implications to warfare, and the world's economists were scrambling to adapt to the effects of the weapons markets, I produced a little read article entitled Rocket Impacts in which I made a prediction about the effect it would have upon the monetary market.
I spoke to other world MoF's and scanned for articles on the subject but the economic community as a whole scoffed at my prediction, claiming that currency values were forever a lost cause. But I prepared eIreland's Finance Ministry for a wildly ambitious longterm economic plan.
Soon after I produced another wholely ignored article about the cost effectiveness of the newly released Q7 Weapon Factories in which I explain why/where currency values were going:
Today, after following the course I predicted for 9 months, currency has just about reached it's threshold.
A person who simply followed my initial advice (converted their gold reserves into cash) would as of now have 800% of their initial investment.
Any financialist would call x8 a pretty respectable return on a nine month investment. However that is not the full extent of the potential.
As MoF I also invested heavily in citizens' initial entry into monetarism with the Goldfish Program and an in depth series of articles detailing how a player could produce even more cash on top of the Bull trend in currency. Although personal MM gains were subject to RNG, a conservative estimate based on my own results places the current value of the initial 10,000iep provided entirely by the State at approximately 19 TIMES it's original GOLD value.
The seeds I initially planted 9 months ago would deliver some pretty fat babies today!
THE DREAM THAT WASN'T TO BE...
As I said above, when all this began I embarked our Finance Ministry on a wildly ambitious plan. The systems of wealth accumulation in citizens' accounts was a small part of that. While all of this was (potentially) happening in citizen accounts, monetary expansion programs of vastly larger scale and complexity were also at work in the State's Banking system itself.
Despite supporting mass nationwide Q7 supply, and other programs, an extremely conservative calculation puts our current National Bank balance over 7 million iep.
(If you doubt this amount, remember how much was stolen from the bank. That much was already accumulated 1/2yr ago

That's 194g per active citizen in this country.
Enough to (during an admin offer) provide every single active citizen in our country with the complete upgrade to Q4 of 2 training facilities.
For everyone.
Massively increasing our citizens' combat strength.
Massively increasing our citizens' gold income.
An absolute game changing event for one of the smallest nations in the game.
With gold left to spare...
Sadly, this is not eIreland's story however.
Along with the dream of a community not hindered in commodities by cash (a goal that was already fully operational for several months) the dream of a community no longer hindered gold accumulation was also destroyed.
This is the true price of choosing leadership based purely on friendships and ideologies: poverty, weakness, infighting, stagnation.
And what of them that lead such a calamitous fall in eIreland's grace?
When others have caused great harm to our nation, they got together and reimbursed the State so eIreland could carry on.
But this was not the case this time. Those responsible muttered a brief "sorry", dusted themself off, and continued to put themself forward for leadership without even changing the practices that lead to the tragedy in the first place.
No reimbursement was offered. No reimbursement was possible, for the perpetrator never had the technical skill to re/build what they destroyed to begin with.
And so eIreland has limped along for 1/2yr, while they that destroyed a near perfect socialist system remain dominant in eIrish politics, supporting a policy of "together we can fix this", avoiding the simple truth that it was their responsibility to fix. The rest of the nation are just innocent ongoing victims of their lust of power and negligence of duty.
The difference between having:
Someone you don't necessarily know or like, but is extremely competent at their role
vs
Someone with a large fan base but no technical game skill
influencing the course and security of our community,

What gets me most is: think of how immigration could have gone for the last 1/2yr if eIreland still had all that to offer.

The methods used to create what we had needed to evolve several times to the ever-changing economic environment.

Sounds like this is based on the quirky trend we recently saw in the market that Sweet was able to predict. Motivation aside, it would be kind of like asking to get hit by lightning twice in one day...

Few ppl did Boudicca, a colleague wrote a script so we could monitor ppls' maintenance of goldfish offers. The majority didn't follow through longterm.
However as training ground upgrades were introduced during that period, I like to believe they used the money to increase their strength training, which is a wise investment : )

You were an exceptional MoF during your tenure SD. I'm sorry some of that's been undone after all the effort you put in, but you undoubtedly helped a lot of people while you were there.
Always respected your work in the biz EM, despite the fact I was funding 1/2 the world to fight against you at the time!

I admire the work and this article, the economics is pure genius. I do believe exposing why it didn't happen is necessary, but it seemed a little political for me but you did not name any names so...great article.

Your article contains a lot of generalizations. You assume people had gold reserves. Most players have sensibly restructured their businesses. That took a lot of gold to begin with. Also there is the reality of the multiple nation monetary market you overlook. Place an offer in the Currency for gold bracket(I assume you refer to this) and it gets dropped several pages. TBH I dont have the patience to place offers in the hope that I time one to the top. Perhaps do an article about that.
But even if curency is at a threshold it doesnt mean restructuring your businesses you coulndt have made more. I'm quite happy where I am and not sharing my secrets.. Just as a joke I placed my currency as gold. Lets look. [wry smile]

-If you indeed can generate more than 1800% growth in 9 months you are a very skilled financialist. However the beauty of the system I setup for all eIrish citizens is that they needn't be skilled financialists at all to reap the rewards of sound monetary policy.
naw they just need credit card. combat stash was 50 gold for 9 euro i think coupled with easy BH thats about 55 gold. last month a similar offer was offered. Im almost touching the 1 gold per day income but have spend little using my credit card. That would be 30 gold a month with what I receive using my full level 1 strength trainer. grinding for me to a better income is better than this flash in the pan methods.

A large segment of the population doesn't use RL money on this game.

hey if they wanna give away 50 gold for 9 euro im not complaining. besides i didnt say i was a visa player. i have here and there bought gold perhaps its contributing at most 20% of my income. So what. It is the right of everyone who dont want to wait years and years to make significant progress in this game. im currently working on a project on which i am spending probably the equivalent of 800 gold a day spending 10-30 euro is not that big a deal to me.
I remember reading these articles. I recall being impressed by these insights, and had no doubt they would come to pass, or at least something similar.
Sadly, I can only infer from what you wrote some of what happened because I've been out of the loop for the last 6 months or so (been active in terms of fighting, working, writing my articles etc but not keeping up with current events).

I used the Goldfish program almost religiously for a long time and bought into currency just as you said. Cheers buddy.

IB was trolling Kurgan with that stuff about taking a pension. Due to the mechanics of government, I know without a shadow of doubt that IB never even had access to State money.
The impeachment rage that oj went on was actually reimbursed by his circle of friends. They solved the issue one of their ppl created.

I somewhat regret that: it certainly occurred to me that placing a safety deposit in some trustee's possession would be prudent. I entertained the idea of asking Bhane to hold a portion of the treasury.
I wish I'd done that, it could have been used to rebuild our Bank after the robbery.
If the government of my last term hadnt spent > 1million iep in a single month, I may moved a portion of the reserves into such safe keeping

More likely, I would be a custodian of one of the many orgs owned by eIreland. That's not really out of the realm of possibility, as it is, since Apple has been giving control of our orgs to "trustees" for ages now. i would change the email account associated with the org though, to really secure it.
Orgs refresh potential accessors monthly, I would only accept a trustee holding state money longterm in their own account, where only that one person could ever access it
