For years on the Internet the two have clashed over who is truly the finest in all desserts. Today I present to you the way to finally decide who reigns supreme for or delicious and sweet course to finalize a meal.

The Cake vs. Pie Bracket!

It's time. We've fought for far too long. The Pie vs. Cake War must come to an end! But a winner can't simply be chosen; there must be a battle, and you, dear reader, must decide the champion. In the spirit of March Madness (why should the NCAA have all the fun?), we're pitting the pies and cakes against one another — the Pie Conference and the Cake Conference, if you will — such that the dessert-loving nation can declare a superior sweet, once and for all.

Your votes will determine the winner of each matchup.

Pies and cakes invited to the playoffs were chosen and seeded at the discretion of the Selection Committee (WahooBob, PigInZen, BradleyReala, Tiacha and myself)— debating the validity of entrants or their rankings is moot; we must move forward with competition. Please note, generalizations of pie and cake types cover all variations of pies and cakes in their respective genre. Carmel Apple Crumb Pie, for example, is still an Apple Pie; Yellow Birthday Cake With Chocolate Buttercream plays for Team Birthday Cake. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is Rhubarb Pie, Neopolitan Ice Cream Cake is an Ice Cream Cake. You get the idea.

#1 Ice Cream Cake vs. #16 Grasshopper Pie

The first set of games in the East bracket will give us a great preview of how the entire tournament should shape up. In the first matchup, first-seeded summertime heavyweight Ice Cream Cake takes on the little known underdog Grass Hopper Pie. According to culinary expert and convicted felon Martha Stewart, Grass Hopper Pie is a Southern jello-based desert inspired by chocolate-and-mint cocktails developed in the 1950s. This southern belle may be tasty, but it's status as a widely unknown dish and its less-than-appealing name will likely lead to a beatdown to Ice Cream Cake in the opening matchup.

Our second battle is a clear choice of good vs. evil. Cheesecake is creamy goodness. Made with creamcheese, it makes Tiacha wet. The Fruitcake is traditional on Christmas. It's fruity but nasty. Even tho it's called "cake" remember that Cheesecake's name is truly a lie.

#8 Lemon Meringue Pie vs #9 Pineapple Upside Down Cake

The third match of the evening should be a near-draw between two fruity and delicious desserts. Lemon Merangue Pie, a two layer triumph of sweet creamy goodness and cool thick citrus, will go head-to-head with Pineapple Upside Down Cake. The bakery beauty, topped with tropical spheres of a fruit that comes from neither a pine tree nor an apple, will put up a tough competition. This battle will likely go down to the sweet, juicy finish.

#8 Black Forest Cake vs Blueberry Pie

The second of our eight-nine matchups puts an American original against a German delicacy. Black Forest cake orginates in Germany. It's really called, Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte you whores, but who really cares, because it's delicious. Blueberry pie can be yummy. When its made with custard. Its all creamy and good, but when it's too sour, or the berries aren't right, then look out.
