But We ALL Love Ireland

Day 788, 21:49 Published in Ireland Ireland by Edana Savage

I hear a lot of people complaining about how we are neutral and that we never do anything. You want to know why we fall back on neutrality?

It's not because we lack the courage or the conviction or that we are afraid to fight. It's because we can't agree AS A NATION what that action should be. We are divided in our opinions. On one side you have diehard US supporters on the other you have diehard UK supporters. And then you have people in the middle who like both. So what do you think is going to happen?

That's right, NOTHING.

So here are the choices for an official stance. Listed in no particular order:

1. We support the UK
2. We support the US
3. We stay neutral in this conflict.

Now until we can agree AS A NATION what we will choose, we will remain neutral in conflicts involving the US/UK.

We are taking steps that will decide this once and for all. That is why we are doing the Alliance Committee; to gather accurate information on all our options so that the Dáil can decide if our stance will change or not.

Will we support one alliance over another or will we remain independent, and continue to be neutral in the US/UK conflicts?

We don't condemn a person for fighting where their heart leads them. They are always welcomed back with open arms. This is an option only an independent nation can offer. If we decide to choose an alliance, that option may be lost forever.

We should not be tearing each other down either. We should be doing everything in our power to build each other up. It is not about the US or the UK. They will be fine without us. You know they will. Would either of them welcome us? No doubt.

Some of us like the UK, some of us like the US, and some of us like both.

But we ALL love Ireland.

At the end of the day, it needs to be about Ireland and what is best for our people.
