Brinksmanship No More

Day 2,015, 15:57 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Yeah, it's a word. Look it up. Haven't heard it in a long time, huh? Well, it makes perfect sense in this context. Even as the war on EDEN was drawing to a close, before the alliance even folded, the seams were already being undone between CoT and TWO sides. Now, the world has been split into two sides once more, with EDEN nations quickly finding new friends from old enemies. Months ago, was Greece working with Serbia a foreseeable occurrence? Or perhaps Croatia and USA united again at last? Perhaps not. The two sides were taking little shots at each other, not willing to engage in full combat. However, Serbia’s latest political infiltration has snapped the American government into action. The two superpowers will soon be at war. Isn’t this fun?

The Long Awaited

Of course, USA has been under PTO in recent memory. But it’s been a while since the PTOers, led in part by Serbs, have been able to crack the strict ATO movement in the country. However, when one of USA’s T4 parties’ PPs turned out to be a Serbian double-agent, the situation turned dire for the Americans. In fury, the American government quickly passed a motion to declare war on Serbia. Serbia has been busy cleaning up the remnants of the last liberation movement, and are thus a bit behind on the NE front. America has the early advantage.

The war between the biggest powers on either side has been a long time coming. Americans hope to liberate southern France and destroy the massive Serbian empire and contain them back into the acclaimed Balkan Box, while Serbs are hoping to get ammunition and extra fronts to wipe the Americans once more. Spain, Poland, and Britain all have borders with the Americans, and Romania already has Mexico lined up on their airstrike. If America wins the first few battles of the war, it’s very possible to see either side RWing French regions to opt out of the war, America either to secure Aquitaine and its rubber or Serbia to escape with part of their empire intact. America will be fighting a 2v2 battle at the very least, against the Serbs and Romanians. Won’t this be fun to watch?

The First Direct Conflict

Italy’s been involved in some training wars with Slovenia. But the nation has long been occupied almost entirely by its TWO neighbors, both their Slovenian ‘friends’ and the Serbs. With EDEN gone, Italy was one of the few nations in the alliance with no clear path as to which way they would go. After all, they are completely surrounded by TWO, and have been occupied for quite some time, but perhaps they would enjoy working with their occupiers after deciding that resisting wouldn’t work. The training wars indicated to a lot of players that Italy was slightly pro-TWO, and rightly so. However, it was not to be.

An Italian liberation of Marche was but the beginning. The two sides declared war on each other, and Italy struck first, taking Marche in a tightly fought battle. However, the Slovenians held Umbria in an equally close battle, and Italy retreated from their liberated regions to await the next assault. North in Switzerland, where Slovenia has reportedly not paid rent for the regions they’re loaning, the Swiss have been RWing Deutschschweiz repeatedly, and finally liberated the region. However, now that Italy has been chased across the Serbian line, Slovenia has turned its attention on regaining its weapon bonus, and bringing a smackdown to the Swiss. Of course, this is miniscule compared to the USA-Serbia war about to erupt, but this is technically the first open war between a CoT and TWO nation. This may just be the beginning of a massive campaign between CoT and TWO, Italy on CoT’s side along with Switzerland versus Slovenia. Could Serbia have gotten in on the war? Perhaps, but not with their war with USA. Now, Slovenia will have two fronts to deal with. If Italy can get back into Marche, that is. The Slovenians already have Deutschschweiz back in their possession, so Italy will have to move quick.

India Crises

Not much to report here, frankly. The region seems have to calmed down considerably after a long duration of massive conflict between India and those wishing to live in the area. First, it was Croatia and the political tensions between them and the Indians leading to India leaving GEA, EDEN’s baby alliance, and Croatia quickly conquering the whole nation. Next, it was Croatia liberating enough regions for Bosnia to safely airstrike into the area. Then, it was Pakistan’s turn to take their chunk of land and move out of the stopgap role they’d been reduced to between China and Iran. The only break that India got, through all this turmoil, is with Albania.

With the Albanians liberated in the Balkans and an airstrike sized up, India prepared to relive the past once more. However, Albanians wished to negotiate terms for peaceful occupation. By giving up its last few region, Albania negotiated a way for India to secure congress and peace in their mostly occupied homeland. Though the process lasted far longer than many Indians were willing to take, and many players were disgruntled and fought against the plan, the end result is a subcontinent with India on the map, and five other countries sharing the resources. How utopian 😉

Iran and Turkey

The war between Iran and FYROM saw the Iranians beat up out of two-thirds of their land. However, Turkey has come in to bail their ally out. Taking a risk and NEing Iran to break through the meatshield, Turkey has gone through occupied Iranian land and liberated it from FYROM’s occupation. FYROM has been kicked out of Iran, and is at their wit’s end in Saudi Arabia, where Saudi RWs and Iran’s invasion into UAE has made them a bit claustrophobic. Bulgaria has already been cut down to size, and if FYROM is defeated and wiped, Bulgaria could be the next to go in the region. Ironically, Greece, Romania, and Turkey weren’t able to defeat Bulgaria and FYROM in EDEN, and were only able to after joining their old TWO enemies (at least the first two). Funny how that works, non?

NaN and TWO

Similar to how Asgard has taken to a pro-CoT stance as they share common enemies, so has NaN with TWO. It’s perfectly understandable, as most of the NaN countries are occupied either partially or fully by CoT forces (points at Saudi Arabia, Australia, and chuckles). However, this hurts the Asgard-NaN relations that had been developing due to a similar mindset of fighting imperialism. What’s notable is China’s continually developing interest in NaN. China is known for liking to keep their neighbors from blobbing and becoming a threat to their nation, so it makes perfect sense. Potentially hostile nations such as Thailand only grow stronger by conquering the weak nations such as Malaysia, and securing a good relation with Pakistan only serves to secure their bonuses in the west. What’s curious is that China has had a long history of fighting many of the TWO nations that they seem to, at least indirectly, be aligning to. Poland infamously trekked the chills of the Russian landscape in an attempt to beat up China, which failed miserably. China is certainly the largest free agent, along with Brazil, and what they end up doing may decide the future of Asia in the next few months. They certainly are interested in befriending NaN. Will this sway them towards TWO, or does the buck stop here?

Old Friends

Remember back in the day? Russia would fight ACT, and Germark would help Sweden repel Latvia and Lithuania? Well, with Germark and Russia both switching to CoT, for a brief duration the former swapped sides and fought with the Lithuanians, taking out Norway, another Asgard nation. Since then, however, Russia has essentially saved Asgard as a whole, siding with Sweden in the conflict despite both their and Lithuania’s attachment to CoT. Lithuania’s relations with CoT soured since a fellow member blocked them from their plans without backlash, and quickly fled to rival alliance TWO. Now, Lithuania is back, with some friends, hoping to take on their old pal Russia.

Sweden is protected behind Russia, so they are technically not fighting in a war (they have their NE used up on Russia but the nations have amicable relations), but the rest of the region is dedicated in battles. Latvia, Lithuania, and Hungary have all declared war on Russia, setting up three fronts in Russian territory at the same time. However, Germark has openly supported their Russian ally, and has declared war on Lithuania in an attempt to support their ally. United Kingdom has countered with a NE proposal on Germark. Notably, Russia could see support from their longtime friend China if they start seeing great losses territory-wise. Otherwise, this looks to be a 4v2 war, and perhaps 4v3 if Sweden can get a border with one of its enemies. A massive front is brewing...

Maybe?

No country can handle six battles at the same time, right? :3

fufufufufu elect me for CP and you'll see what I mean *shameless self-plugson*

Until next time, take care!
