Boredom, Battles, and Baiting
Mr Woldy
Over the past few days we've seen a plethora of battles, both at home and abroad. Some of them have been started due to Boredom, such as those we have been experiencing from Canada. Some have been battles with a goal, such as the recent region swaps in Norway. Others, are simple baiting tactics, caused (again by boredom) to try and make rising a bit more interesting.
Canuckistan
Here is an example of fighting for simple Boredom. Unfortunately, when your motive is boredom too much of a good thing can be bad for you. The costs of these battles keeps going up whilst the results stay the same.
The attacks stopped for a while, but after some trolling and a slight misunderstanding, the Canadian CP decided it would be worth attacking a few more times. Surprisingly, he isn't up for reelection.
Fighting for fun is OK. This is after all a game but that said, squandering your countries riches for very little reason is illogical. If this where resident evil Acacia Mason would get an F rank. (If they have that rank on resident evil, I don't actually play it.) Never the less, at least we got some fun out of it all. Perhaps soon Canada will stop flogging a dead horse and start selling government assets.
A quick look at the map of the eUK shows we have one region outstanding; Northern Ireland. France own two of our regions, but they can be easily returned to use via RW if need be.
Good Night Valhalla
During the Canadian invasion, the UK and Russia lost region in Norway. Finland then entered a short conflict in what of recent were the only battles with an obvious goal. Finland agreed with Norway that they would occupy all their regions.
The reason being that if every region of a country is occupied they lose all open wars. Finland's aim was to 'wipe' Norway in order to delete Norway's wars with the eUK and Russia, both with active MPP's
Unfortunately they succeeded. Svalbard and Jan Mayen was RW'd back to Norway who now have no active wars. All that is left is for Norway to RW any regions they want and if the eUK or Russia want to take them back they will have to pay for a Declaration of War.
As Finland has active MPP's against Russia it would also be very difficult for them to take back the Norwegian territories, and the cost of getting them could outweigh the advantages of owning them. If Finland make the mistake of attacking Russian original regions, a UK war will be opened via MPP, in which case we can look into taking back Vestlandet.
Good Morning Romania
Another battle possibly started through Boredom is that of Northern Great Plain, Hungary.
Romania and Hungary have a rivalry in eRep, so one of them actually attacking the other on original regions in something quite significant. Some say (and I am inclined to agree) that this is a baiting tactic from Romania. They are bored, and they want Hungary to hit back.
This comes shortly after this article, which claims if Phoenix weren't refunded some gold they would wipe Romania.
This is beginning to show the effects eRepublik Rising is having on people. As the game isn't meeting peoples expectations, we've begun looking for alternative ways of having fun. Whether it be by using the modules to attack age old rivals, or using the community to facilitate large alliances on supremacy.
Thanks for reading.
Mr Woldy.
Chipping in where I can.

Gotta admire Finland.
can we let France keep Yorkshire & Humberside? It makes more sense than paying for it back and then having pay to swap them in again using the Netherlands. Also, it borders only our regions, and means if we lose NE or NW England they can block attack for us.

Excellent article. I like the idea od Boredom as a motivation for war.
daniecox, that's what we agreed to 😛

Good article. I'm a noob. I noticed a lot of these things on the world map (war with Canada, Finland occupying Norway, etc.), but it's nice to have someone explain it all.
One thing - regarding your last paragraph - could you do an article on how eRepublik Rising isn't meeting peoples' expectations? Are you just saying that people were expecting more from it, or that it's actually worse than version 1? And, if so, in what way?
Thanks!
I personally prefer it to V1, a few people wont. But with all the bugs and with gold making such a big difference, I think some people are simply annoyed at the admins and the game. There's still some balancing to be done regarding fighting, and the economy needs a hand too x_X
Woldy! Isn't it depressing we both have around 2k subs, and yet can't get passed 120ish?
I have to admit this...Canuckistan is a hilarious name! Had to pass that along to a RL Canadian friend. He wasn't amused.
Supremacy is awesome.
