Beyond Boundaries - Thoughts on Warfighting
Fitisin
I admit it. I love this game. I've met terrific people - Bia, Axe, jadiv (cranky, yet lovable old bastard), Mo, John Largo, Brad, SVV, John Jay and the irrepressible His Airness - too many to mention. Since 2009, I've been clicking, writing, whining, fighting, herp-derp'ing away. This is a game that is constantly in flux, the only constant is change.
I also hate this game. I've met some truly awful people, Fluffer, Pizza/Ajay, deershark - to highlight a few. c'est la guerre...we won't get along with everyone in a community of thousands of people worldwide. And, yes, the Admin's changes to the game are designed to drive short-term revenue in a tough global economy, not player retention. Every player who doesn't bust out a credit/debit card is a revenue-minus for the game's owners...and the rest of us - yeah, we're tools for the Man, putting out the dough to make a difference in our online community. The Admins obvious contempt for zero-money players and the foolishness of driving them away and making their efforts not worthwhile is the subject for another article.
Yet, we are game players. We're in it for fun, for each other, and we're in it to win it...regardless of how temporary a "win" may be. The only thing that would suck more than a temporary defeat is a permanent win.

A'ight, on to the reason why I'm writing. The last several months have seen dramatic changes which have fundamentally altered the game for eAmericans - all of which can be summed up in two sentences:
1.) Game mechanics have changed so that eRepublik warfare is a 24/7 affair.
2.) Colossal, galactically stupid foreign policy failures in the eUSA have moved Poland and Spain, our years-long Allies into becoming the lap dogs of Hungarians and Serbs.
For years we proudly fought alongside our friends and fellow Eden warriors in Spain and Poland. These people were incredible Allies - and their desire to bow before ONE and take orders from Indo-Serbungary is a testament to how much we pissed them off. Maybe another article later on that.
So, we're left with an unbalanced eWorld...and it leaves us fighting incessant RW's and mathematically unable to win a direct attack. Again, c'est la guerre.
Some have said the longstanding doctrine of the Mass Attack is at an end. I couldn't disagree more. What has changed isn't the fundamental value of the MA; but the timing and round-the-clock nature of the warfighting calendar.
Yea, this is getting wonky, so here's another cute puppy:

The question arises...how do we win direct attacks when the eUSA's prime time is 1/6th of the time period needed to dominate the eBattlefield, and we are devoid of Allies in other prime time zones that give a crap about us?
The answer is simple and complicated at the same time. And (because, you know, it's me) I submit the first concept that needs to be adopte😛
THE IDEA OF AN OFFICIAL, NATIONAL MILITARY IS OUTDATED, AND THE USAF SHOULD BE DISSOLVED TODAY.
Why, you ask? For once, not because I see red everytime Pizza or Pfeiffer/Henry Arundel/deershark/any other congressional and political tool post something arrogant.
No...it's because War has changed, and an allied military structure is far more important than a national one.

Consider this: The eUSA is fairly unique among the major eNations by having an "official" military - major powers fund privately organized mil units that are proven to be successful and follow orders. Unlike America, the rest of the eWorld rewards initiative and leadership with funding - not perpetuating politics and sycophants within its warfighting units.
============
Sycophant - big word!
–noun
a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite. e.g. Pfeiffer/Henry Arundel
=============
We don't need a national military - we need a global military.
Specifics of my proposal:
1. Dissolve the Congressional Military.
2. Organize a multi-national structure for private, effective militaries worldwide to swear allegiance to.
3. Each unit within the multi-national coalition should take responsibility for two blocks of time in the day that are within their early morning hours and also their "prime time."
4. Allied (and this means both Eden and Terra) CP's meet every six hours (no whining, you're the idiot who ran for President of your eCountry for a month, so grow a pair and deal with the sleep deprivation) to lay out battle orders for the entire Allied structure...relayed via forums, IRC and ECHO. How you arrive at those orders are up to your and your unique nation's structure.
5. Establish two pools of funding: One for the monsters of the Battlefield, and one for the young players that act like that they're in the game for the long-haul and want to be a part of something special. For once this year - let's do something to recognize the outstanding new players amongst us - and let's do it on an international scale.
6. Fight like Warrior-Poets. Together, assigned to specific time slots.
7. Just as important, establish a multi-national Media Corps that will help pave the way for reasonable foreign policies and peel off those nations that are now fighting with Serbia and Hungary who have no idea how badly they are being used.
Just my two cents, talk amongst yourselves.

We need to think globally and win some direct fights!
You raise a lot of good points. I truly hope you are considering a run for congress.
V
wow.
I think this is the first time an article has made me speechless, I kind of like the idea though.
@John Jay, isn't congress the problem, followed closely by the forum dwellers who decide which players make up congress.
Interesting ideas, Fit!
May we never run out of room for more articles like this one.
Voted and Ponied.
George is right about Congress and the eUSA Forum, but this is the kind of original and innovative thinking that the nation needs. Taxes have never been lower, but the eUSA government doesn't even spend what it takes in any more. Hiring mercenaries - which is basically what this article calls for - is one way to redress the balance. What we really need is something like a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" that will sift through the rubble, look at what has been happening, and get the facts out in the open. Without that, we're just shooting blind, hoping to hit something.
Hooray for being mentioned in an article! \o/
Also, lets get a discussion going about those ideas.
I think we just fell into a gold mine.
I couldn't agree with this article more. Onward to the future.
i support every bit of this article.
even the puppies.

This article is full of wunderbar ideas! I really hope that this is taken into effect.
V+S+Ponied
Very good idea, kind of like the United Nations Coalition force. This would be alot more effective if all the allied military groups were under the same leadership and direction. I agree with this 100%.
A lot of the higher hitting branches, both USAF and JCS Mil are composed of a vast majority of "European" players to fight during non eUS prime times. Also, with the lack of "active" members across the board, you can't really have a national military. Just not enough folks
Fitsin: Already been done: #et.battle
Topic: "United in Battle All Generals and soldiers here. Mission: Battle coordination across military units and border"
I think all of your other points are asking to be trolled, so I'm not going to bite the bait.
Your logic is sound. However it happens, the eUS Military and USAF need to be united. I do not care how it happens, but it needs to happen, yesterday.
I like the ideas and ideals you push good sir, keep pushing these ideas and you will quickly find backing within this nation. GL too you! Voted and now Sub'd
I'm def not a military guru but this sounds like a great plan. At least it's something different. After all the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repetitively expecting different results.
And I agree with Alexander_Auctoritas, we need to be united now more than ever. Structure is not as important to me as being on the same page of what we are about.
very thoughtful and puppylicious.

jadiv says, in a cranky yet lovable way, good article.
Only problem I see if you get the allied CPs together every 6 hours, won't be but a day until they are fighting with each other.
Lol, now that I got my annoyance out because of this article, I am going to point out one key piece of irony. You listed a lot of people as "arrogant".Then you said that we didn't need a National Military because it was outdated and needs to be dissolved. Well if we need to be dissolved in order to fulfill your idea of a "Global army", how come you don't say "Dissolve both the USAF and JCSF" in order to make your "Global army" Or maybe you see the JCSF as to good for the global army, or you are trying to way an excuse to gain funding from the government. LMFAO!. Connect the dots and you will see the irony.
The only people I hear crying are the ones who don't want to lose their cushy positions. IRONIC.
Until you numbnuts start giving more of a shit about the TEAM instead of yourselves, your own rank and your own supplies, this country will remain screwed.
I'm with AA on this one, get it done. I'd suggest by duct taping these other idiots mouths and throwing them in the closet til we get it all fixed.
deershark, no I definitely meant you not deerslayer77 - your comments pretty much sum up why. The eUS Military isn't the "official" military branch of the government, the USAF is; and its funding, I feel, would be put to better use putting together a global network of reliable, non-political mil units across time zones and national boundaries.
That's all man. My teenage years, much to my dismay, are way behind me in the rear-view mirror, lol.
Oh so I become an awful person because I have an opinion? So I guess that makes you just as awful as Hitler. Also I haven't even posted a comment about USAF for at least a month, maybe you should get your facts straight.
Also Bia, how about you surrender your cushy position for the better good? OH WAIT, IRONY!
Oh wait, who walked away from whom again, Bia? Was you or us? No, we stepped in to help fill the void once YOU, yes, YOU guys walked away from the duly elected governing body. Every word out of your guys' mouths is an explicit act of hypocrisy. On one hand, you're stressing the need for unity, yet you guys were the first to walk away. On the other hand, you say we need to make eRepublik fun again, then lambast the president in his article for making a joke. So which is it again? Unity and fun, or seriousness? Even more hilariously, is that you guys say you're fine without funding, but you'd take it...as long as there is no strings attached. Lemme tell you something right now, NO militia or even the USAF as a whole, get to just take money without proper budget reports, numbers and even efficiency reports given to the proper people in charge of funding us....and we're the "legitimate" government military! You guys are no different than us. You don't have the answers, you're merely stressing old points and beating dead horses. As far as the rest goes, "I just know" doesn't cut it. I don't have a problem with the JCSF rank and file, but stop trying to feed us legitimate soldiers without ulterior motives a steaming pile of bullcrap. We're not buying it and we're also NOT congressional tools, or in "cushy" positions. YOu're only furthering your ignorance to even pretend who does what where in relation to the Army or the Special Forces. Jesus.
Oh and just so we're clear, I DO appreciate the express sentiments, I just think some of it is misguided.
What cushy position do I have? LOL I'm an SPC rank and file soldier in Airborne.
"On the other hand, you say we need to make eRepublik fun again, then lambast the president in his article for making a joke."
Is this where you say I "lambast"ed the potus for making a joke? That wasn't a joke and I've NEVER lambasted anyone for making a "joke". That was a statement, NOT a joke. It's suddenly all "HAR HAR he didn't mean it" when someone disapproves. Those days are over, people can read.
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-potus-the-first-day-at-school-1818051/1/20
Is that all you got, Liquid??? You want to put me down, try harder.
OK.
First, Congress isn't the problem....anymore. In fact coming soon, Congress will be the catalyst for this being resolved.
Secondly. This who walked away from who shit is really lame. The JCS would have never considered leaving if it wasn't being discussed already in Congress. The fact of the matter is, Congress pushed the envelope and the JCS responded. Sure you can try to smudge the facts here, but you only look stupid doing it.
People are going to have to find another reason to troll the military and/or Congress. This will be solved soon.
You're missing the point. The point is that there IS no "enemy" within our ranks here. All of us signed on to do a job across the board. Congress wanted accountability and there's nothing wrong with that. The XO must be JCS thing was kinda lame, I'll even agree with that, but to walk away strictly because you guys felt you were "above oversight" means nothing. More importantly, it started the process of this rift that appeared. Sure, you can blame it all on "elites," if you wanna sound as stupid as Pizza, JJ, knock yourself out. There's always ways to circumvent assholes in the system.
No, what I'm referring to are the massive egos on both sides that will have to be popped before the first steps can even begin on the path that Fitisin wants to embark on. You wanna combine the two sides of the military, awesome. Come up with a plan that both sides can agree to, instead of pretty rhetoric and wishful thinking.
I would give you a sub, but those puppies creep me out!
Also, Bia, I'm not trying to "put you down," I'm merely trying to point out your logical fallacy. You made a big deal on Whitehead's radio show about bringing fun back to eRep, correct? Then complained because Blank made a joke in his article. Yes. A joke. Because anyone that knows Blank knows that he makes jokes in that nature. Not to mention it's pretty easy to tell tone in a text format, amirite?! Maybe he needs to put tags on his articles next?
Look, I'll just make this short.
The JCS walked away because Pfeiffer wanted to end the JCS entirely. He wanted to destroy an entire community for his pleasure. That was unacceptable. So instead of arguing the same points with a wall (Pfeiffer) the JCS decided that instead of succumbing to his will, they would rather save the community.
To put it another way: There are two sides to every story. You are not seeing one of them.
I understand that, but what I'm saying is neither are you guys. Instead you've painted us all with the same broad brush that you painted Pfeiffer with. Lemme tell you somethin', bucko, I've never been given anything in this game. I've achieved what I've achieved through hard work, just like anyone else. When I came back to this game, I worked my way up from a grunt in the USAF, to XO of Special Forces...and I did it the old fashioned way. Hard work, activity, drive and initiative.
As such, I believe you guys do a disservice to everyone in the Armed Forces who haven't gotten any "cushy jobs" through political affiliations and worked their way into them. Tbf, there aren't very many political appointees even LEFT in the USAF. Most of them either quit, resigned or retired, leaving the people who worked to get where they are.
Just like you guys claim. So like I said, while I appreciate the sentiments Fitisin expressed in this article, it's going to take more than pretty words to solve this. Maybe a little more understanding on BOTH sides of the issue.
Zmaaaj, Behold the puppies!
Also, if you idiots talk to SVV or Kria. In the beginning of the congressional term I talked with both of them to see what the JCS was aiming for in the Congress and to see if I could help out without destroying one of the sides.
I just read this now, lost a few subs when I e-died and just getting them back in place now. (resubbed)
Wow.
I guess the popcorn is stale by now?
