Beyond Boundaries - Thoughts on Warfighting

Day 1,328, 14:20 Published in USA Ireland by Fitisin

I admit it. I love this game. I've met terrific people - Bia, Axe, jadiv (cranky, yet lovable old bastard), Mo, John Largo, Brad, SVV, John Jay and the irrepressible His Airness - too many to mention. Since 2009, I've been clicking, writing, whining, fighting, herp-derp'ing away. This is a game that is constantly in flux, the only constant is change.

I also hate this game. I've met some truly awful people, Fluffer, Pizza/Ajay, deershark - to highlight a few. c'est la guerre...we won't get along with everyone in a community of thousands of people worldwide. And, yes, the Admin's changes to the game are designed to drive short-term revenue in a tough global economy, not player retention. Every player who doesn't bust out a credit/debit card is a revenue-minus for the game's owners...and the rest of us - yeah, we're tools for the Man, putting out the dough to make a difference in our online community. The Admins obvious contempt for zero-money players and the foolishness of driving them away and making their efforts not worthwhile is the subject for another article.

Yet, we are game players. We're in it for fun, for each other, and we're in it to win it...regardless of how temporary a "win" may be. The only thing that would suck more than a temporary defeat is a permanent win.

A'ight, on to the reason why I'm writing. The last several months have seen dramatic changes which have fundamentally altered the game for eAmericans - all of which can be summed up in two sentences:

1.) Game mechanics have changed so that eRepublik warfare is a 24/7 affair.

2.) Colossal, galactically stupid foreign policy failures in the eUSA have moved Poland and Spain, our years-long Allies into becoming the lap dogs of Hungarians and Serbs.

For years we proudly fought alongside our friends and fellow Eden warriors in Spain and Poland. These people were incredible Allies - and their desire to bow before ONE and take orders from Indo-Serbungary is a testament to how much we pissed them off. Maybe another article later on that.

So, we're left with an unbalanced eWorld...and it leaves us fighting incessant RW's and mathematically unable to win a direct attack. Again, c'est la guerre.

Some have said the longstanding doctrine of the Mass Attack is at an end. I couldn't disagree more. What has changed isn't the fundamental value of the MA; but the timing and round-the-clock nature of the warfighting calendar.

Yea, this is getting wonky, so here's another cute puppy:

The question arises...how do we win direct attacks when the eUSA's prime time is 1/6th of the time period needed to dominate the eBattlefield, and we are devoid of Allies in other prime time zones that give a crap about us?

The answer is simple and complicated at the same time. And (because, you know, it's me) I submit the first concept that needs to be adopte😛 THE IDEA OF AN OFFICIAL, NATIONAL MILITARY IS OUTDATED, AND THE USAF SHOULD BE DISSOLVED TODAY.

Why, you ask? For once, not because I see red everytime Pizza or Pfeiffer/Henry Arundel/deershark/any other congressional and political tool post something arrogant.

No...it's because War has changed, and an allied military structure is far more important than a national one.

Consider this: The eUSA is fairly unique among the major eNations by having an "official" military - major powers fund privately organized mil units that are proven to be successful and follow orders. Unlike America, the rest of the eWorld rewards initiative and leadership with funding - not perpetuating politics and sycophants within its warfighting units.

Sycophant - big word!
–noun
a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite. e.g. Pfeiffer/Henry Arundel

We don't need a national military - we need a global military.

Specifics of my proposal:

1. Dissolve the Congressional Military.

2. Organize a multi-national structure for private, effective militaries worldwide to swear allegiance to.

3. Each unit within the multi-national coalition should take responsibility for two blocks of time in the day that are within their early morning hours and also their "prime time."

4. Allied (and this means both Eden and Terra) CP's meet every six hours (no whining, you're the idiot who ran for President of your eCountry for a month, so grow a pair and deal with the sleep deprivation) to lay out battle orders for the entire Allied structure...relayed via forums, IRC and ECHO. How you arrive at those orders are up to your and your unique nation's structure.

5. Establish two pools of funding: One for the monsters of the Battlefield, and one for the young players that act like that they're in the game for the long-haul and want to be a part of something special. For once this year - let's do something to recognize the outstanding new players amongst us - and let's do it on an international scale.

6. Fight like Warrior-Poets. Together, assigned to specific time slots.

7. Just as important, establish a multi-national Media Corps that will help pave the way for reasonable foreign policies and peel off those nations that are now fighting with Serbia and Hungary who have no idea how badly they are being used.

Just my two cents, talk amongst yourselves.
