Behind the Ads: An Interview with eCanadian Hero, Tyler F Durden.

Day 620, 14:21 Published in Canada Canada by Sage Marshall

We’ve all seen his ads with the slogan “Leave No One Behind” and the promise to save eCanadians all over the country in occupied territory. But who is the man behind these ads? Who is the person with such vast amounts of wealth and time that he may deliver all he promised and more? Who is Tyler F Durden and why did he care? We decided to ask these questions in an exclusive interview to find out just how Tyler F Durden was able to save so many.

Q: You began your life in the New World on day 601, yet you were able to supply hundreds of tickets to help eCanadians defect out of occupied territory and then back home to eCanada; all the while running ads for almost your entire campaign. How did you amass such a large amount of funds in under three weeks?

A: Thanks for your time Sage Marshall. While I was indeed born on the day that this, our Great Patriotic War began I did not amass any personal wealth. I followed the same route that most eCitizens follow - work, train, and fight. However, one thing became crystal clear to me early on in this war - should we continue to lose region after region, we would also stand to lose an even greater national asset - our citizens.
The Citizenship Mod stood to rob us of hundreds and potentially thousands of our countrymen to the enemy. While I never thought for a second that eCanadian refugees would remotely consider capitulating to the enemy and accept their new citizenship - the problem remained - it would take several sessions of Congress to re-instate those refugees as bona fide eCanadian citizens. We had to act, and act fast. I started with 1 Moving Ticket (I had early on adopted the policy of retaining 2 Moving Tickets in my inventory should I be forced to evacuate BC due to enemy occupation) If you look at my Donations List, you'll see the series of events, which led too many [of our] compatriots.
I wrote an article titled "eCanadian Refugees" http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/ecanadian-refugees--873655/1/20 whereby I hoped to achieve mass awareness. Prior to that article, I had been commenting on many other articles stating my concerns but they mostly fell on deaf ears. I was not aware of any government initiative that I felt would stand to accomplish what was required to not only secure those stranded in Occupied Territory, but enhance to our ability to counter-attack and reclaim those regions. If we lose 1000+ citizens to eFrance and eUK, then we would have to work that much harder to break down enemy walls in order to free them. My instinct told me that our finances would soon be crippled as a result of our government's military objectives. We need tax dollars and fists. Additionally, it was clear that many refugees would refuse to fight for the enemy in any battle that would ensue. This robs players - let alone eCanadian refugees the ability - nay the right - to improve their experience and strength through fighting. It stood to be a lose - lose - lose situation. Then, on July 28th I decided that I [was] going to have to do something myself. Field Marshall Irwin Rommel once sai😛 "In the absence of orders, go find something and kill it."
I adopted this credo and began to search for online eCanadians in Occupied Territory. First, I came across eCanadian "Anomie". I pm'd her and told her what risks she faces by remaining within eFrench territory when the Citizenship Mod comes into effect. She sent me all the money she had so that I could add it to my own CAD, and I could buy an additional Moving Ticket so that she could escape. We got her home.
She later donated her Level 6 gold to the cause! I updated my article, and commented on other articles about this. Plugson stepped up to the plate and sent me 3 more Moving Tickets (Mts), and Augustus Baldwin sent one more. That represented 2 more eCanadians coming home. eCanadian "natashan" sent me 3 more MTs. Then "Citizen White" really got the ball rolling by donating 1 Gold and $26 CAD. Citizen White collaborated with me throughout, continuing to donate MTs. We were in business! Riffwire, my employer then stepped up and donated 5 more MTs, and continued to provide exemplary support throughout the operation. The Ministry of Industries then sent me 7 more MTs, and a 5 Gold loan so that I could establish an Organization ("e Fight Club") to travel overseas to acquire low cost MTs (I have yet to pay that back) as I was quickly acquiring all reasonably priced (in my opinion) MTs in the domestic market.
Then Revenue Canada donated a substantial sum of gold, which enabled me to run ads in Occupied Territory. That was the lynchpin - the ads. Everyone sees the ads. As soon as those ads went up, so did the requests for MTs. There were plenty of enemies trying to get MTs too. The crucial element in determining who was indeed eCanadian and who was not was found in their friend’s tab. Citizen B inadvertently helped out here. If someone was a friend with Citizen B, then they were most likely to be eCanadian. Everyone knows that Citizen B has over 1000 friends. That helped a lot. The enemy saw what we were doing. As a result of my article, and the comments made by eCanadian refugees in it, more donations came. It became a full time job. I would answer one pm, and there would be two more. I'd log out of my citizen, and into my Org to buy more MTs, and when I returned to Tyler F Durden, he had 10 more pms. It became intense. I knew what was at stake.
That was my weekend too - a 3 day one, which gave me the time to dedicate my efforts to this operation. It was truly a snowball effect. In my wildest dreams I could never of anticipated the way eCanadians would come together. It was their sense of ePatriotism that honestly inspired me to continue on over 15 hours each of those crucial 2 days to bring home as many refugees as possible. I snarfed down breakfast, lunch and dinner at my desk. My ashtray was overflowing with butts. It was a sight to behold in retrospect. My girlfriend observed from afar wondering what the hell I was so focused upon.

Q: What made you want to help and sacrifice so much to help fellow eCanadians get back home?

A: In rl, I am Canadian. I live in Vancouver. Even though this is 'just a game', I enjoy taking it seriously. It has become a passion. Someone once told me that eRepublik can be an addiction. Not exactly a Testicular Cancer support group, but you get the drift 😉 Secondly, if eCanada stood any chance of winning this war - we needed as many eCanadians as possible. We had lost over 25% of our population when I began. I took it as my personal responsibility to get our comrades home. It's what I would have done in rl.

Q: How many eCanadians have you helped find their way home and out of occupied territory?

A: I haven't had a chance to count how many as of yet, because my weekend ended and I had to go back to work. I work 75-90 hours in a 5-day span, so I only have enough time to travel to and from work and sleep when I am not working. It's the nature of the beast in my industry. Over the past two days - record setting temperature days in BC I experienced heat exhaustion, and yesterday I developed water poisoning. I must have drunk 10-15 litres of water - not recommended. But when you're in that sun...I will publish a list of all the repatriated eCanadians, and a list of all donors soon in my Newspaper, "Soap Box".

Q: How many eCanadians and organizations helped in the massive exodus of fellow eCanadians back to the homeland before Citizenship began?

A: That answer I cannot provide at this moment, but those numbers will be included in the article, which I will compose shortly, as described [above].

Q: Did your employer of BC AIR help provide some of your tickets?

A: RiffWire, and BC Air provided me with many MTs and additional support throughout the campaign, especially early on. RiffWire was fantastic throughout!

Q: You have become quite immersed in the New World, as a quick look at the articles written by your newspaper, Soap Box, will show. How did you learn the ins and outs so quickly?

A: Well, I am a reborn. Previously I had a citizen named "Tyler F. Durden", which was banned for allegedly being a multi. He was a level 15 at the time of banning. Emphasis on allegedly.
My girlfriend also was a citizen, as was my roommate. The eRepublik admins interpreted our activity as being a multi and shut us down. We bombarded the admins with appeals and soon discovered that there was NO real appeals process. No protocol, no information pertaining as to what is required to submit a bona fide appeal. I have served as counsel in many arbitrations and legal processes in my time, and as far as I am concerned, eRepublik has absolutely no right to use the term 'appeal' to describe their 'process'. Lets hope that their new 'appeal' process is better. Anything would be better...While my gf and I daily have been sending emails to the admins, our roommate cannot. He left over a month ago now to work up north and has no Internet access. He cannot appeal, and we cannot contact him to appeal. We were asked to keep his citizen alive, and that’s what we did - and it cost us. My gf won't play again, which saddens me because, as an avid gamer, eRepublik was the only game she ever played with me.
It was special. Cue tears.

Q: Your organization eFight Club is based out of Central Thailand, rather then eCanada, is there any strategic reason for this?

A: eFight Club is in eThailand because that eNation has a good gold to currency ratio. I [was] able to buy 40% more moving tickets for the same amount of money than I would here - when they were 'cheap' that is. More bangkok for buck as it were. Initially eFight Club was sent to Java, as they had a great ratio as well. "e Fight Club" served a dual purpose there - buying up cheap MTs, and doing intel. "e Fight Club" single handily drove up the prices for MTs in the eIndonesian market by 20%.
That was residual benefit. Yes, I was buying from eIndos. Time was short, resources lean, and I could get many eCanadians out of Occupied Territory with cheaper MTs than I could in the domestic market. Furthermore, I didn’t want to drive up prices in the eUS market due to Chris Stanwick's efforts. I am not proud of buying from eIndonesians, but the situation being as it was, that was the best route to take. I do not regret it, nor will I.
It was with "e Fight Club" that I discovered that eIndonesia intended on deploying a Q5 hospital in California. As soon as I discovered this, I contacted eUS officials and Chris Stanwick stepped up his repatriation operation there. Chris Stanwick by the way has been a valuable asset to my own operation. He has burned through hundreds of MTs himself trying to bring back e[Am]ericans from Occupied Territory as well, especially in the run up to the Citizenship Mod.

Q: What is your personal and organization based plans now for the future?

A: For now I shall continue my efforts in repatriating eCanadians from Occupied Territory. Just imagining eAlbertans being surrounded by berets and croissants is just the image I need to carry on. It keeps me up at night😉 If other opportunities present themselves in the future, then I will take consideration in that regard.

Q: Do you plan to run for Congress at some point?

A: Congress? In my past life I ran for Congress with the CEP - the only party I have ever belonged to (not counting the Green Party, which I was a temporary member of during the eHungarian PTO attempt). Due to a miscommunication between CEP authority, and myself my candidacy was removed the night before the election. I took exception to that as I had put considerable effort into that campaign - which included an intense awareness campaign for deploying a Q5 DS for BC, which occurred after the election. That experience compelled me to resign from the CEP, and I have not been a genuine member of a party since.
In all honesty, I do not subscribe to any of the current parties - especially in our situation right now. I do not feel as though the needs of state are adequately represented given our circumstance. That is not a slight against existing parties that is just a result of my interpretation of what makes an eNation successful in eRepublik. eRepublik and rl differ greatly, and I feel that those differences are not completely recognized by the body politic as a result of the raison d'etre of existing parties.
For the record, I hold no ill will toward the CEP or the members involved in that occurrence. They know who they are, and we've agreed to let bygones be bygones. A National Emergency is no time to hold onto old grudges.
I have toyed with the idea of leading a party of my own, with ideas of my own, without any histrionic interference from 'old party members'. However, I believe that for the time being, my contribution in repatriating eCanadian refugees is where I should be focusing my energies.
If I receive as much support to run for Congress, or any other political position as I have from this repatriation operation, then I would feel compelled to honour such a nomination. I have long held the belief that the best leaders are the ones whom have leadership thrust upon them, rather than by them seeking it for themselves.

Q: Finally, is there anything that you would like to say or anyone you wish to thank?

A: I would like to thank each and every eCanadian that donated to the cause, and spent their energies locating refugees. Since this operation began I have seen eCanada come closer together. At a time when defeatism was rampant, at a time that divisions were deepening, at a time when opportunists were climbing over each other for the candidacy for the next term of President, this eNation came together. We now have morale - even in the face of defeat after defeat on the battlefield - eCanadians have hope.
Hope in each other, hope in the war, and hope for our future.
Even if every last eCanadian region should fall, the eCanadian spirit will never be broken.
And that is why we will never lose.
Thank you for your time Sage Marshall. I hope that I have provided adequate answers to the questions, which you have chosen.
And remember... It's only after we've lost everything, that we're free to do anything!
