So you want to get on IRC, right? Maybe some of you need to get your feet wet. Maybe some of you need to be pointed in the right direction. I'll do both.

First, you have to get an IRC client, or use a webservice to connect to IRC. If you don't want to mess with a download and installation right now, use this link to the eUS main channel. If your more adventurous get mIRC, which is a quick and easy standalone IRC client. If you do, your first command will be

/server irc.rizon.net

So now you're on IRC for the first time, on the Rizon network. This is where a majority of players interact. To join many other channels, you have to have a registered nickname. For this, you have to have an email address and a password. I'd highly recommend that you don't use your eRep password. Password recycling in general is a bad idea.[/tangent]

Any time you ever use a command with a password, make sure you're not typing them in a channel. Use the left-most tab in most IRC clients. You don't want to screw up a password command in a public channel, trust me.

Keep in mind that your IRC name can't have spaces. Double check you spelled your email address correctly before sending. Here's the comman😛

/msg nickserv register password email

Now go to the email Rizon sends, you'll have a code. Copy that code (Ctrl+C), and come back to IRC and use this comman😛

/msg nickserv confirm confirmationCode

After this, each time you log onto IRC you identify yourself with this comman😛

/ns identify password

Now you're set to enter rooms that require a registered nickname. Some IRC whiz kids check and make sure they're talking to a registered player by using this comman😛

/whois username

In order to join a new room, use the join command, /j. Try this:

/j #usa-chat

You can be in many rooms at once, but I personally seem to get disconnected more often when I'm in a lot of rooms. So what happens if you get disconnected, but when you reconnect it says your name is already in use? Here's the commands to kill your 'ghost' and re-identify:

/ns ghost username password
then
/nick username
then
/ns identify password

That's the worst of it, I promise. Get used to typing those commands, you will use them a lot.

Now, what if username wanted to use usernameAFK as an alternate name, while still having a registered nickname? Group it:

/nick newusername
then
/ns group originalusername password

You can have many grouped names, and they expire 90 days after last use on Rizon. Use this to see all your grouped names:

/ns glist

This is enough to get you started. Once you're on, you will surely find someone that can show you more, or check out Rizon's IRC Guide for more.
