war criminals
muh petrodollar
Leaders are complex. Bush Sr. was a dedicated public servant, war hero, CIA Director but also was deeply involved in Iran-Contra, pardoned Colonel Oliver North instead of letting him be punished for his role in that scandal, gave us the Willie Horton ad (incredibly racist and inflammatory), and nominated Clarence Thomas to the US Supreme Court. We're not even going to get to geopolitical ramifications of the First Gulf War.
That said, he was also decent, kind, and had a conscience. 100% human. For this I say rest in peace, thank you for your dedication and years of service to the United States. I disagreed with much of his policies and as a student of history know that no leaders are perfect, just as no people are. Cults of personality are dangerous and to be avoided. In order to avoid them we must discuss both the negative choices & outcomes as well as the positive.
A convicted murderer gets week-end passes? What the hell is wrong with liberals?
News flash: Willie was not the dude's name. Also, many states had furlough programs and some, yes, even for convicted murderers. At the time they were considered beneficial in promoting rehabilitation.
Who gives a crap about his name? As for his rehabilitation, tell that to his victims
So rehabilitation isn't possible? Whatever, this thread isn't about prison reform. It's about a deceased US president to which I calmly and honestly replied without a political point other than one against developing cults of personality.
Well said PiZ! I concur 🙂

I had to google that animal, because I didn't know much about him. I see how much good that week-end pass did for his rehabilitation. As for the cult of personality, I did find it odd calling George Bush the best American. But I see it as just the usual exageration done when somebody dies. What ticked me off was the bit about the "incredibly racist" ad. That's a load of liberal crap. If one says anything bad about Black people (or any other minority) it's racism. I don't hate Floyd Merryweather Jr because he is Black, I hate him because he is an abnoxious asshole. Or Spike Lee. Or all the stupid so-called actors in the Jackie Chan movies from his Hong Kong period. I don't hate them because they are Chinese, but because their acting is horrible. And that includes the Whites in those movies. It is not always racism.
(And I don't hate this game because it is operated by Romanians)
