Australian Music #1
WyvernJack
We have many international guests in eAustralia.
Some were not invited 😛
Some are heroes of Australia 🙂
And some Aussies might not know these guys that well, but I love them and would recommend, mainly cause no matter what I do, they always end up on my Ipod
So I figured i'd subject you to (offer you) some Australian music I love.
I'm going to start with 28 Days
"28 Days are a punk rock band from Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Formed in 1997, the current lineup consists of original members Jay Dunne as lead vocalist, guitarist Simon Hepburn and bassist Damian Gardiner as well as Jason "Jedi" Howard on turntables and drummer Adrian Griffin. The band's previous drummer, Scott Murray, was involved in a fatal accident after being struck by a car on 18 November 2001.
28 Days are known for their rap rock, punk rock and hip hop music. Throughout their recording career, they have released 5 studio albums and 5 EPs, 3 of which debuted in the ARIAnet top 40. This includes certified platinum album Upstyledown which debuted at number 1 in July 2000. The band have also seen commercial success on Australian singles charts, with singles such as 'Rip It Up', 'Goodbye' and 'What's the Deal?' all peaking in the top 100. After declining popularity following their 2004 album Extremist Makeover, the band released a greatest hits album 10 Years of Cheap Fame before announcing their hiatus in 2007.
The band came out of Hiatus in December 2009 to support long time friends Bodyjar on their 'End is Now' Tour. 28 Days have announced that they are currently writing an LP with new drummer Dan Kerby (previously of Behind Crimson Eyes) who joined the band at the beginning of 2011."
So if I could force (offer) an album upon you, it'd be Stealing Chairs.
Songs of theirs you may have heard and may enjoy include their two biggest singles (imo)
Takes Me Away
&
Rip It up
Personally, My favourites are
Deadly Like
&
Just To Make You Happy
Also with a special mention to this song which was dedicated to their former Drummer Scott Murray who died tragically
Stealing Chairs
Any suggestions for bands will be read and promptly ignored
🙂

You cannot go past
ACDC
LRB
Rose Tattoo
I Could 😛
Nah, My aim to hit the lesser know ones, the "less-international" Aussie bands..
I can't even name a Rose Tattoo song and can't figure out who LRB are...
Stuff the gurg & frenzal & happyland & avalanches & are on my to do list 😛
Will even hit up Aussie Hardcore & also hip hop before I touch Pub Rock
I apologise for my grammar in that reply... its like a "fill in the blanks" game with me sometimes, once vodka is involved, but honestly when is it not
Little River Band, OMG how can you not know.
Yes get some Frenzal up there https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qQt0SCuYAo

Thanks Wj. Good tunes always welcome. And easy on the fishes, mate... 🙂
Frenzal Rhomb are who got me into the Aussie music scene. "All your friends..." Still cracks me up. 🙂
Other notable modern(ish) groups could include the Living End, Gotye (who if you haven't heard of we might as well give up), Hill Top Hoods (not my style, despite being from my home town...) and a whole bunch more. We do "dust n diesel" country crap just as prolifically as the yanks...
Since you mentioned Hilltop... check out this song https://youtu.be/G2CDvI33XjA I wasn't a fan of them till i listen to this whole song... then they won me over
v
thanks for the advice!
I only know Midnight Oil 🙂
I was and still am a big fan of 28 days, but around the time their drummer passed away was when I first left Australia to live overseas. I still have them on my playlist for the iPod and like you I love 'Stealing Chairs' (a good emotional song like "Take me away"), plus to get you in the mood 'Rip it Up' is essential.
One of the less main stream bands (but I think commercial radio started to play her) is Little Birdy and the vocalist Katy Steele (Sister of the dude Luke Steele from Sleepy Jackson) if you listen to her song "Relapse". Her vocals IMO are great...
😃 I love little birdy and her, Andrea Wasse & Emily Armstrong are my musical celeb crushes
Message To God, is my favourite by her... Also if you like that suss out an all female cover album of Tim and Neil Finn, https://youtu.be/4Lt_uDHdxmg Little Birdy did that cover http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/She_Will_Have_Her_Way
Just her vocals in it. I feel for the song and her straight away when I heard it on unearthed.
In regards to 28 days, I actually met them once 😃
Ha that's awesome, I met the frenzal lead singer once after a gig in the shire, but my mate decided he needed to try to impress the guy so i just shook his hand and walked away so i wasn't associated with my douchey mate *shakes head* 😛
I had my douchbag moment when I met Fear Factory. It was at the BDO in Perth when Metallica was playing. My friend was in a box with them (he knows them very well), told me and then they made me look like a d@#k to get up there (I was slightly drunk and st0n3d anyway). Even the coppers asked if they wanted me arrested. It cost me 5 hamburger meals for the boys, but I got to meet them and watch Metallica with them (then was invited to their filming for Archtype video clip) 😃
AD/DC
Bitch Prefect
Pop Singles (all gone) from my point og view the best ones actually!!
Nick Cave \o/
The duet with Kylie was great
I've never got into him... "Into my arms..." Always sounded like "Into my arse, oh lord..."
Damn Australian accent ruins everything from that song to ordering Bircher Muesli.
